I really wanted some highlights and a balayage but it was first time to get it done and a trip to the well known salons in flushing & Manhattan was too far. I'm really glad this salon was close to home and they also know how to take proper care of Asian hair. Salon is super clean and very cautious (hand sanitizer given upon entrance and temp is checked). I also watched how Jay & Amy took care of the little kids who came by for a haircut and was really impressed with how great they all turned out. Definitely will come back again soon!

I called a few places prior to trying Luminous and they charge you for a cut and a blow out is additional! I'm sorry but I think it's ridiculous to charge for a blow out after someone is already paying for a service. But anyway!!! Not the case at luminous, my cut and blow was included with my cut and I found that business practice to be extremely fair! My hair is healthy and I will definitely be giving them more of my business. Thank you Luminous !

For my friend, the stylist suggested she needed a trim to better hold a curl. For me, I was told my ends were dead - even though I got my hair cut by my regular stylist 3 weeks ago. We both said no, and they kept insisting and ultimately shaming us until we agreed. My stylist cut my hair 4 inches. I was in shock. After all that, they didn't even pin us like we asked. It's clear to me they both wanted to upsell us and wouldn't let it go when we initially declined. I'm extremely disappointed and would not recommend.

I have to say, I really like the patience and kindness of the people in this salon. I have very…read morethick long hair and it takes a very long time to blow dry, if you are not used to doing long African American hair on a daily basis. This is my fifth time at this salon because the salon I normally go to closed early today. However, I called JCity and asked if they would take me, and they gave me a late appointment which was fine with me. The lady who does my hair at JCity is always cordial, patient and kind. I am picky and she never shows an ounce of anger (but I am polite to her as well. I know people can get impatient with attitude, but kindness reaps kindness). I even ask if I can show her what I mean with the blow dryer or curling iron so she knows what I want and she does not get upset with me. I believe the more I go she will get used to doing my hair. I also recommended a thick wide tooth comb to comb out the hair after washing to make it easier. She found one and realized how much easier it was with my hair. With her patience and professionalism she always does a great job. The owner, Alex and the girl that work with him always joke that it takes over an hour to do my hair. They don't realize I spend a shorter time at their salon than I do at salons that do thicker, curlier hair. Other salons are usually multitasking with more than one client between, wash, sets, blow drying, styling, relaxers, coloring, etc. and we may spend 3 to 5 hours in the salon, not an hour (that is for people with straight hair, that is not so long, thick or curly). These salons are able to push out 3-4 clients at one time. I believe if he saw how African American or Dominican hair salons function he may be amazed. All in all, the young lady does a great job on my hair. I just love their patience and kindness. Alex likes to make jokes. He is very nice. The times that I went to JCity, I have not asked them to cut my hair because I am picky, so I will only let my regular salon cut my hair. But if you want a nice wash, blow dry, flat iron and bump under curl (or bump up), the young lady does a nice job. Be patient with her because her goal is to take care of your hair and do a good job. She works very hard to accommodate what you want. This is why I like her. It makes a difference when you have a kind hair dresser. So, if you need a quick wash, blow dry and curl under (or curl up), I do recommend JCity salon.

The stylist does not cut layers well, so please go somewhere else if you want layers. Coloring is good they try to get it as accurate to your picture as possible. I'm ngl the only reason why I still come here is 1. Local business and 2. They're the only place nearby that does Japanese hair straightening and they do that beautifully. Mind you now there's 2 people working, 3 if you count the daughter who washes and blow dries hair. So there's always a wait but I mean it's up to you if that's ok. Over all I'd say it's worth for Japanese hair straightening. Otherwise go somewhere else.

Attention brides, PLEASE read this prior to signing a contract and submitting payment to Lolita X…read moreJade Hair & Makeup Studio. I am a bride who has had to cancel my wedding twice due to Covid-19. As you can imagine, this has been a very difficult time. Below is my honest experience with Lolita X Jade. I paid $160 for a hair trial and took a day off of work due to the traveling distance. The appointment went well. She was very personable and I was happy with the overall experience. Therefore, I proceeded in submitting a $350.00 deposit to secure my date. My wedding which was scheduled in June was cancelled due to Covid-19. I asked if she was available for our new date in September and she kindly confirmed that she would able to accommodate. Unfortunately, I had to cancel again for September and devise a new plan for October at a different location. I reached out as soon as our new date was agreed upon. She was already booked but could possibly make it work depending on the time frame. Once I stated that I would need to be ready by 12/12:30pm, she responded that she was unable to provide services for both weddings. I told her that I completely understand as these circumstances are beyond any of our control. I asked if it was possible to refund my $350.00 deposit since she would no longer be available. She said she wouldn't since I signed a contract. I asked if she was willing to offer a partial refund since she was no longer available and already booked for that day anyway. She declined and refused to compromise or offer anything at all. I understand that deposits are non-refundable. However, these are incredibly different circumstances. I did not choose to cancel my wedding, I was forced to. I did not choose to cancel with her, she was no longer available. Therefore, how is it fair to keep someone's money when YOU are no longer available and YOU are still getting paid that same day for another booking. We aren't referencing a small $50.00 deposit. This is $350.00, not including the trial which was $160.00. Therefore, I am now out $510.00 total. The trial is undoubtedly nonnegotiable as she provided services and deserved to be paid. However, the deposit is a different case. Now I have to spend additional money for another trial with a new hair stylist. I feel this is simply a poor reflection of human decency. She could have offered a partial refund given the fact that SHE was no longer available and wouldn't be losing money since she was getting paid for another wedding. She was also booked for the September date as well. Therefore, she wasn't losing money on either dates but still decided to keep my money for services not rendered. Postponing my wedding twice has been brutal in itself. It is truly upsetting that in this specific scenario there was no sense of compassion from woman to woman. I have reached out to two other stylists and confirmed that cancellation fees/deposits will be waved due to Covid-19. Therefore, my advice to any bride is, PLEASE make sure you confirm this type of information to prevent yourself from losing $510.00 like I did. Also, I have all of the correspondence saved through emails for any futher verfication. Good luck to all of the brides out there. Stay strong and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel! xo
