Truly a haunting time that I wish I had never been exposed to. A promise of growing all dashed in favor of the counselors getting to hook up with each other. That's truly what was valued here. Certainly not the campers and their attempts to better themselves. They're just obstacles in the way to hook ups according to this camp. And the casual cruelty. The yelling and the counselors allowing campers to turn on the weakest of them. You know my counselor actually joined in and cracked a joke about one of the campers touching themselves. You know there are actually nice and supportive places out there? Places where your kid can grow into a happier, more confident and nurturing person? Places where your kid can know support instead of having the facade of it crushed in front of their eyes, leaving them cynical, distrustful and with less hope of finding somewhere supportive? Well if you want your kid to grow even more jaded and feel like all promises of help growing are secretly a cruel lie, then boy do I know where you should send them! Great program. My son, 17 years old, attended the summer of 2018. Came back with new ideas and new ambition. He attended the camp for high school seniors, college freshman and sophomore's. The opportunity to mix with people having similar issues in life was valuable. It was a lot of work for him however if he was not going on an extended summer trip next year he would go again. read more

Deeply brutal experience. I feel like my life would've been a lot better if I had never gone. To be fair, it seems like some camp counselors are better than others. But some of the ones they let in.... Ooooh boy. I doubt you want your kid under their wing. And they dress it all up in the language of "emotional intelligence". Which I do agree is important. The trouble is this camp files some terrible behavior under "emotional intelligence", which will probably make your kid turn against the concept entirely. So, you know, I'm sure there's some better camps to send your kid to. Your kid might end up with a positive experience, or you know, your kid might end up with an experience that'll haunt them for years after. Feel free to roll the dice on that one. read more

I first attended SuperCamp in the summer of 2004. I was reluctant to go as I was a terribly shy kid with poor self esteem and the idea of spending my beloved summer at an academic camp with dozens of other kids terrified me to say the least. As I walked into the main room, met my Team Leaders, my teammates, and the facilitators, my anxieties began to melt away. Little did I know the 10 days that followed would become some of the fondest memories of my life. For the first time, I felt genuinely welcomed, accepted, and entirely free to be myself. I attended for another 6 years for a total of 7 life-changing summers I will never forget. SuperCamp taught me valuable life skills that helped me maintain meaningful relationships from childhood to adulthood and taught me how to let go of my fear of self image and step outside of my comfort zone. I credit SuperCamp and the study skills and self-motivation I learned there for helping me graduate from high school and begin college at age 16. My self esteem, confidence, grades, and social skills all skyrocketed after that first camp and continued to improve after every summer. To this day I maintain the closest friendships with the people I met at SuperCamp from the US to China to South Africa. I highly recommend this camp to all parents with middle and high school students. read more

It betrayed a complete lack of care in my emotional and academic development. All they care about is the system that they put in place for the kids. Not the counselors as they will freely break it when it suits them. I just want to leave a negative review ok! It was a very dark experience, one that had mental repercussions for years after. This summer my 12 year old daughter, Sophia, attended SuperCamp at Stanford University. For six days and nights she was treated to an experience that supported who she was, encouraged her to dream bigger and she learned important academic skills to perform at her best in the school environment. She loved the dorm lifestyle, her team leaders and her hall mates. The experience gave her more confidence, allowed her to make great friends, and to navigate the tricky middle school years better. I attended after sophomore year of high school. It was one of the worst camp experiences I ever had. I staff were very rude and shamed me for who I was. I would never go back and I have told all my friends to stay away. Waste of time and money. read more

I sent my twin daughters for summer 2015 session at Loyola Marymount in LA. They are already very good kids but lacked some organizational skills and a little motivation. Super Camp helped them gain essential academic skills and life skills in an upbeat supportive environment. They even came home with new respect for each other! At the parent workshop at the end of camp I was so impressed how the organizers were able to pierce thru that teenage dedicated apathy wit hall the kids. It was infectious! We loved SuperCamp so much that on the final day when I picked them up I signed them up for the next level-Leadership Super Camp. They are looking forward to that for this summer read more

I was constantly bullied and no one was there to help me or my situation. Granted some of the staff tried to step in, it was not enough to truly stop the situation from escalating. I left there feeling much more self conscious about who I was and how I perceived myself. I guess being the skin color I am truly is a huge factor as to how you get treated by other students that attend. read more

My 15 year old son hated this camp. He wasn't willing to drink the Koolaide. He said that he was treated like a child. For example, the teens are escorted to the bathroom. My son doesn't like blaring loud music and constant clapping and cheering. I agree with the other reviewer who wrote that this camp is not for everyone. read more

This camp is not for everyone!! This camp is geared more towards children who need academic strategies because their grades are suffering at school or children who need self-assurance because of their unique or somewhat unfortunate background. If you consider your child academically gifted, then save yourself $2500 and use it for another camp. I sent our child to this camp hoping that this camp will help boosting his confidence and with better organization skills but he didn't get either of them. Our 13-year old son said all the learning related lessons are kindergarten level. As one of his teachers at CTY(Center for Talented Youth) mentioned, this camp is for someone who is academically challenged. However, the counselors were sincere and nice. read more

This camp is EXTRAORDINARY! We sent our son when he was 16. He left for SuperCamp shy, reserved and reluctant to express himself. Through a combination of fun activities (academic, personal growth and ropes courses), great instructors, caring team leaders and a lot of great kids, our son came home with a stronger sense of "self" and purpose. I attribute the success of SuperCamp largely to the outstanding curriculum and the amazing staff. The instructors are talented, top-notch educators, and they really "get" teenagers. After SuperCamp, we used a lot of the tools he learned in the program in our home (i.e., the 8 keys of excellence & the academic strategies for his school projects). Our son still applies the keys and the ownership frameworks to his personal and work life--especially "Living above the Line." This program works, and we highly recommend it. read more

My 18 year old daughter struggled most of high school. She was accepted to an out of state college and my husband were very apprehensive about sending her under the circumstances. We made a deal with her that she needed to attend Quantum U...a part of Supercamp for college kids. The day before the camp she refused to go. It was a huge battle to get her there and drop her off, thank goodness it was just a drive and not a plane ride. She insured us that she would not participate in the program and this was the biggest mistake we had ever made. She thought this was punishment. She said "18 yr olds don't go to camp and this was a waste of our money!" She had tears in her eyes and a very rotten attitude towards the camp staff when we signed her in. She did not contact us for 5 days. I am thankful that pics were posted online so I could see she was smiling and having fun. When I picked her up I asked her if she still thought we sent her to Quantum U as punishment or if it was because we thought it would be a valuable experience. She said she loved it, the counselors were top of the line, and it was not a waste of our money. I asked her if she would recommend this camp and her response was ABSOLUTELY! It turns out that the excellent staff there were able to turn her and engage her in the program. She had the time of her life, made lifelong friends, and learned very valuable lessons on succeeding in college and life. read more

We had high expectations for SuperCamp for our rising 8th grade daughter. She was so skeptical of going and was even afraid because the people seemed "too positive or happy" for her. I begged her to go and keep an open mind and she reluctantly agreed. We did the 6 day camp and were so worried we were going to get a call to come get her. Instead, by day 2 she called us and said she was having an ok time. By day 3 she called us to say how much fun she was having. When we picked her up we literally cried because our daughter was not the same child we dropped off. Her confidence, leadership, and relationship skills were off the chart. She was so much more mature. She was able to verbalize a 10 year plan she created for herself during the camp. She was able to give 10 presentations to visiting adults on what she learned during the camp. Finally, we were shocked to see our shy daughter dancing and singing on stage on the final day with the same enthusiasm as the camp counselors. Every kid that was at the camp with her literally wrote their name on a board saying they wanted to come back next year. We will definitely be back next year. It's expensive, but worth the investment in our child, and the camp had a lot of staff per camper. We definitely felt like the camp counselors knew our daughter well. She also made several new friends! It was everything we hoped it would be! read more

As life long educators, we would NEVER recommend this camp to anyone. After two weeks, our child came home unsupported and with a head full of lice. We had attempted to communicate about several problems with the director of the camp. The director said that she would communicate with our daughter directly, she did not. After I gave the director another opportunity to communicate with our daughter, again, she did not do so. She did not implement the changes to the program that we requested, although the director agreed that the changes should happen. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!! REMEMBER THAT IT IS NOT STANFORD. This camp is using the Stanford name to charge ridiculous amount for sub-par teaching and mentoring. Both were non-existent. read more

My parents enrolled me in Supercamp when I was going into my freshman year in 2003. My grades were suffering and I was somewhat of a troublemaker so needless to say I wasn't very excited about it. That all changed when I got there. What followed were 10 days that were some of the best in my life. Not only did I make friends and have a ton of fun, but learned a lot. About myself, and about how to enjoy learning. We learned studying and power reading strategies, we learned moral principles like integrity, we did team building and confidence building exercises, and lots of good outdoor physical activity. At the end of Supercamp, I felt motivated and determined, at 13 years old! I look fondly back on my time at Supercamp and I firmly believe it had a measurable success on not only my grades and behavior, but many of my successes in life. I wouldn't trade my time there for anything in the world. read more

Dear Parents: I had a horrible experience with Supercamp. We called in to register our kids with one last name, they end up with a different last name. Wen we called to check what happened, they said oh our staff put your kids name on paper and then put into computer wrong. And we throw away the paper records. I talked to both Joe and Katrina numbers times, they both insist they made the mistake,not the cients. Hence, what if my kid needs insurance at the camp, with a wrong name they do not have insurance! Send your kids elsewhere. There are many good camps like BizSmart or Great Books at Stanford. The culture at Supercamp, based upon my interactions, feels irresponsible at best. this camp is completely garbage, and quite creepy. if you were to have your phone on you they may do a bag and item search just to confiscate it. you may not contact your parents or anything unless it's "phone time". this camp is consisted of kids that have zero social skill, and stay inside and play minecraft all day, which makes them weird and awkward. the activities are awkward and something you would find in a kindergarten classroom... creepy and stupid to the point of laughter. read more

My 16 year old daughter just returned from Supercamp. I knew of this camp because I had the good fortune to attend way back when I was in high school. I know that every camp is not for every kid, so here's what I have to say: Supercamp can be an incredible, positive, life-changing camp that supports personal, interpersonal and academic growth. It's not realistic to expect this for every kid, of course, but I feel the vast majority of students would benefit greatly from Supercamp. My daughter has interest and commitment in school but has to struggle to keep up with the academic rigor of her school. She's hard on herself and gets really stressed. The key principles shared at Supercamp, if reinforced at home, are the perfect foundation for an already fairly successful kid with some struggles to take school and life to the next level. She's also quite cynical, so I worried she'd keep herself aloof, but within 24 hours she was absolutely engaged and on board. When I was in high school I was a high IQ low achievement student with a terrible attendance record. After Supercamp I "got it" that school was the thing to do at that phase in life. It truly helped me turn my life around, get on track, have a strong finish in high school and go to a great university. It's a big commitment. It's expensive! I think it's worth it. It won't work for everybody, but I suspect it will work for most people, so you have to weigh the pros and cons and decide. Best of luck! read more

DO NOT send your child to this camp. It's expensive and not worth the money AT ALL. They advertise this as a 'transitional camp' -- a camp that really changes the kids. Not hardly! We sent my son, who has Aspergers, to SuperCamp in Berkeley and it was a disaster! We were very upfront with the camp about Aspergers and what it means, and we were really looking at the camp as a perfect way to tweak our son's attitude toward school and learning. The camp was all for it -- that's exactly what they do, no issues with the Aspergers, blah, blah. In the end, they asked us to take our son home early because he talked too much and wasn't paying enough attention. They summed up all of his Aspergers symptoms when describing his issues -- when he's nervous or in a new situation, he talks or giggles or has other social faux pas. There was nothing transitional about this camp -- just babysitters who couldn't take the time to really work with the kids. read more

My son attended Super Camp at Stanford University summer of 2014. My son had just completed his freshman year in HS, and I felt he was not exactly on the right track for success. I learned about this camp through a very close friend who was familiar with the program and the academic results that helped improved kids towards success. My son was very excited to first of all, visit a well known college establishment, spend time there living in the dorms, and ten days away from home! He described his experience as fun and challenging at the same time. He made new friends from all over and they still stay in contact with each other. His sophomore year experience proved the skills that he acquired made a significant difference in his grades. As a parent, I like the fact that the counselors followed up with me and my son throughout the following school year. I have seen a maturity growth in him both at home and in school. He would like the opportunity to attend next summer as he prepares for his senior year and his future college experience. This has been a great experience for both of us, and I would recommend this program as a valuable investment in your child's growth and education. read more

I sent my son to 3 different camps this summer and SuperCamp really disappointed me. My son is academically strong to begin with but I would like him to learn life skills as advertised on SuperCamp's website. I was really expecting my son to be 'enlightened' after attending 7 days camp. According to my son the first 2 days was fun, after that it became boring and everybody just wanted the camp to end ASAP. The kids don't really learn anything and the daily activities were also not fun. The instructors are mostly college kids, many of them are nice but one instructor seemed to swear the whole day long. SuperCamp claimed that their camps are top quality, it's a life changing experience with amazing results but it's simply not true. I paid almost $3000 for a 7 days camp and my son told me the only good thing about it is the food they offered at the canteen. Initially, I was planning to send him every summer for reinforcement but now I don't think so as it was a total waste of time. For this kind of money, I would rather take him to a vacation overseas to widen his scope. read more
