There are cheaper places in town to get gas, but they are either old and beat up, obscure and coop owned, or crazy mobbed (talking about your Kroger's gas station). I'm sure it's not an accident that Family Express is cleaner and kept up better because they are the first and last gas station tourists see in and out of town, so despite being on a busy corner, it's pretty easy to get in and out of the gas station and there's plenty of room to turn around, if need be. It's also great if you are towing a large boat, two jet skis or are driving an RV. No other place in town offers as much room.

Though their gas prices are not always the best, as there is no competition in Brookston, they have a great assortment of breakfast and lunch stuff, road food, drinks, and basic grocery items. They have great prices on milk, bread, and eggs, and their large fountain drinks are a bargain. Their "Java" branded coffees are very good, and they keep timers on them so they don't get old. They sell a number of newspapers, and are one of the largest selling lottery ticket sellers any where around. The store is kept up, and the bathroom is kept very clean -- really nice if you are on the road. They have those big packages of water at great price, plus beer and wine. They also have propane tank exchange and a Red Box kiosk out front.
