I got my hair cut here last Aug. After looking at the various stylists' work online, I was super…read moreexcited about my appt. Esp as my former hair stylist, who'd been the only one able to give me the exact haircut I'd been requesting for literally years, stopped cutting hair. I have wavy/curly thick hair and I was looking for a shag without bangs. Sounds simple but no, it's sadly not very simple to find a stylist who both understands the cut and my hair texture well enough to execute it at all well, unfortunately. So I got to QoS. My stylist is SUPER nice. Bu then she does something I've never had done in all my decades of going to salons: Turns the chair around so I'm not facing the mirror the entire appt. I thought it was odd but went with it. Mistake. BIG mistake. Why? Because at the end of the cut when she turned me around I realized she'd used a razor on my hair. A RAZOR. And I had no idea she'd used one b/c of the mirror oddness. Listen, I'm sure that there are curly/wavy hair textures that look great with a razor cut. Mine just isn't one of them. How is it even possible to not bother to check in with a curly haired client about using a razor? HOW? I didn't even think to address it b/c usually people who bill themselves as well-versed in curls at the very least ask about using a razor (though in my vast salon experience, almost no stylist has mentioned using a razor on my hair). Almost a year later and my hair is still recovering. It's been awful. My generally great hair was shattered. No curls, very thinned out all long the shaft. A disaster. The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars i/o one is b/c the stylist was seriously such a lovely person. So lovely that I can't bring myself to even give her name here. If she does see this however, PLS do not take a razor to a new client's hair without first asking them. I spent $300 to ruin my hair here. Be warned, be careful.

First off, Kay is LOVELY. I saw a post on Instagram by a friend of her haircut, and I was in the…read moremarket for a new stylist. For my first visit, I just got a bang trim but I'll definitely be back for a full cut. Secondly and lastly, the staff get a living wage by charging by the hour, which means gratuity is included in your booking. Pretty rad Highly recommend Queen of Swords for a somewhat intimate haircut experience, and highly recommend Kay because she's obviously talented and a good animal loving person to boot!

So I've been coming here for yearrrrs. It was the first salon I went to in Brooklyn where I…read moreactually left happy with my hair. I tend to be pretty picky but the bigger issue is that I'm a redhead and apparently getting the right shade of red for a lot of stylists is challenging. Well, not here. I'm schooled in color theory so I was able to explain the exact shade of red I wanted and Justin delivered. Besides being a sweetheart, we immediately connected. He's a total smart ass and I loved that!! So if you lack personality or sense of humor, this may not be the stylist for you. He's creative, experienced and gives great recommendations, especially when I want something done to my hair that I really shouldn't be doing. I have also gone to Rebecca, the salon owner, in Justin's absence, and she's a badass as well. I have gotten microblading done with Kristina when she had only done like 10 people and she did a great job! Being a professional make-up artist and helping many people who don't know how to articulate what they want, it can be challenging to please the customer. If you don't really know what you want or how to articulate it, find pictures to show. Be realistic though. If you don't look anything like Beyonce or whatever flavor she's wearing for the week, that may not be the best screenshot to show. Look at face shapes, skin tone, hair texture, etc. and accept wether or not you have the kind of hair and face that you can really do ANYTHING with. That's my public service announcement for the day.

I highly recommend Hello Beautiful! A friend recommended this salon and I am sooo happy she did. I…read morehave seen Danielle for color and for blow outs. I walked in for a simple wash, cut, and blow dry, and the place looked like a nice hole in the wall 'mom and pop' spot. Because I didn't want a lot done to my hair and I liked that it seemed like a local family run business, I was happy to go in and wait for a simple cut and dry. After waiting quietly for half an hour, they called me back for a wash. Upon washing my hair, the woman had me wait for an additional 20 minutes for the cut. The lady then cut my hair and I noticed afterwards she forgot to cut some pieces, which when I asked her back to fix, she did, with absolute disdain. I brushed it off, let her do her thing, then was passed on to another woman to blow dry. I noticed my head felt hot as the woman blow dried my hair but just assumed it was a hot machine and let it be. I'll tell you, my hair never looked more perfect after that heat was applied; it was too perfect. Despite perfection, she proceeded to straighten my hair. It smelled like an incinerator. Its been less than 24 hours since the experience and I now realize that it wasn't just the heat, it was sulfur. The "post-wash" wait wasn't because they were busy, it was because they were letting the product sink into my hair and scalp. I am currently with a professional stylist who is explaining what these women did to me and understands the protocol for chemically induced hair, what the reaction does and can do, and knows how dangerous what they did is to me. She explains this to me as she is trying furiously to wash the rotten egg stench out of my hair. ***These women, without my consent, put extremely powerful chemicals on my scalp that A. had I previously colored my hair, would have caused permanent damage not just to my hair, but to my scalp. B. "Perm/Straightening" chemicals are extremely hazardous and can cause cancer if not used properly. C. Applying chemicals without customer consent is not just unprofessional, it is illegal and dangerous.*** Shut this place down. I say this with so much vigor, as I sit and wait for the chemical burn pain to cease from my head, hoping these burns don't seep too deep near the most important organ on my body.
