Quick look rating:  5/5 Food & Quality, 5/5 Experience, 5/5 Will I return or purchase again?…read more ***To note: This is only a review of one of the products of Poppa Pokey's, the bbq sauce "Sweet Dragon's Breath." Life is so fun! I was just sent a Christmas gift package from one of my childhood friends. Inside was a number of wonderful top notch "foodie" products from New Mexico. We spent time growing up in NM and are fond of foodie items. What a kind gesture, that he sent! One of the items was this BBQ sauce from Poppa Pokey's, the "Sweet Dragon's Breath." I had picked up some pulled pork from a fantastic local restaurant, "The Rustic" to try out this sauce, on a quick adventure. The pulled pork was wonderful by itself, tried the pulled pork first and then with the sauce. Wow and holy cow, what a great sauce. I'm not much of a bbq sauce person, but this sauce is wonderful. Since then I have tried the sauce on three other items and I'm very impressed by this sauce! What a fantastic Christmas gift was the "Sweet Dragon's Breath" BBQ sauce! How fun, it says it is "hot," but I was ready for more heat. Still you could taste the meat and it was not overpowering Poppa Pokeys currently has three different bbq sauces, and only tasting just the "Sweet Dragon's Breath," I'm very impressed! The owner of this great sauce works for a gas company, but is a big foodie and over the years he has put together a great bbq sauce. If you go to his website you can see that he has placed it in small gas stations all over New Mexico, for when folks go in to refill their gas tanks, you will see the bbq sauce. The gas stations that they belong to are from the main company he works. ***Love: I love the fact that when I read the back of the bottle, I can pronounce the all of the ingredients. Second thing, it's is unbelievable on nearly anything that I put it on! Third, he is a small town guy that has followed his heart and has an outstanding product! Good for you sir, to the small town foodie! Go get e'm sir! Hope he can sell it here in Dallas soon! I do believe, that's some big company is going to come along and taste his products and mass-produce it! I would highly recommend this "Sweet Dragon's Breath" bbq sauce!

When we first entered the store (please note that there are cart wipes by the entrance, which is always nice), I was surprised to see a section at the entrance of different jars of salsa, a lot of which were made here in New Mexico. We also saw some boba milk tea and flavored coconut milk drinks with aloe (which are products of Thailand) and ended up purchasing a few. The drinks themselves are actually not too sweet and tasted pretty good. Pricing was ~ $1.29 per bottle, which wasn't bad of a price. The produce section (all the way to the right hand side if you are facing the back of the store) was small but had plenty of variety of both fruits and vegetables. We ended up purchasing cucumbers that were 2 for $1 since it was on sale. I liked the gourmet cheese section with the variety of cheeses available (which is right by the produce section). I also liked the wine and beer section, which was nice to see local beers and wines made here in New Mexico (which I ended up picking up a bottle of New Mexico made Moscato to celebrate my upcoming birthday). We ended up purchasing a few other items in the store, which pricing seemed to be fair for what they were. One thing that I do want to make mention is that we both thought it was kind of weird to see 2 (separate) people in the store shopping without wearing a mask. I know that an employee saw these people but did not bother to tell them (even though there is a sign by the entrance to inform customers that they are required to wear a mask before entering). But other than that, we had a good experience on this shopping trip and would definitely be a regular if we lived in this area.

Cattle Baron - Ribeye and Loaded Potato

Leaving work after a long day, I knew I wanted steak. I'm not from Roswell, so I had to rely on…read moreYelp and Google to tell me what was available. Now the other alternative was Texas Roadhouse. Don't get me wrong, I'm regionally from where Texas Roadhouse was founded and it's huge, especially where I'm from. But part of my philosophy when traveling is to try someplace new, traditionally NOT a chain. So I gave this a shot. Cattle Baron reminds me of those old school steakhouses in the 90s that served steaks and an AYCE salad bar. Except it's much nicer ambiance-wise with a broader menu. I ordered the largest ribeye steak they had with a loaded baked potato, unlimited salad bar, a Coca-Cola, and a brownie for dessert. The total for ALL that ended up being $48.35. That's really cheap considering I had to be rolled out on a stretcher (joking). The most expensive item was the steak, in the $30-range but an unlimited salad bar for $4.95 and dessert for $6.95 can't be beat. The salad bar had everything you'd want in a salad bar with fresh veggies and toppings along with two soups, premade salads, and a sampling of sweet items like jello and fruit. I got 2 plates from the bar and two small bowls of soup. The steak and potato soup was good but the chicken soup was a bit salty for my taste. My steak and loaded potato was good and hit the spot. The potato was kind of dry, assuming it was a potato, already cooked hours ago and they just pulled it out to serve to me. After smothering it in butter and sour cream, the dryness disappeared. The steak was cooked medium rare, so no issues there but there was very little seasoning. I added salt and pepper to it, which made it a lot better. I wish it had a little bit more searing/char to it. I ended the meal with a brownie and ice cream, with caramel drizzle. The brownie was fairly large and warm, with a nice scoop of ice cream and ample ribbons of caramel sauce. It was really delicious and not too overly sweet! It definitely put me over the food coma edge. Service was good, but slow. My waitress explained to me that it was slow because a table of 39 people showed up, so she apologized. It didn't bother me though because I was so tired from working nearly 12 hours that day. I'm glad I supported local and my meal was definitely worth the price.
