Great local supermarket...one of a few independently owned grocer that still carries a wide range of items, both local & imported! They also have a Pharmacy, Postal Outlet, Flower Shoppe and a cooked food section ( currently closed due to Covid ). Check out their great fresh meat section, where they have a good selection of Steaks, Pork Chops & most of all Chicken wings! Yes, just simple chicken wings, they have whole uncut ones as well as separated drumettes & winglets, some stores nowadays, only carry one or the other! I find the whole wings are best for grilling and I would usually get them here! So far I have always received good customer service here and on several occasions the staffs in the ales have always been helpful when asked a question! They do have a parking lot but it gets filled up easily, there are also street parking available! read more

Awesome local supermarket, Pharmacy and Postal Services. Japanese foods and Asian. Runned and owned by a Filipino family. It's really convenient for seniors living in the area as the store is small for seniors to find what they need. The meats are very fresh every day and all day long as restaurants do stock up As they have their own Farms They sell their meats cheaper than any other store around it. Their service on bagging and carried out is not the best .But above all still makes them great local market for what they do for the local community! Way to go folks keep on . I purchased a smoked pork hock from Super Grocer, it's best befor date is APRIL 14/22. It is spoiled and not safe to eat. I approached the manager and butcher. The butcher could see the spoilage and pointed it out to the manager. The manager refused to give me a new pork hock or a refund. He was aloof and would not admit the meat had spoiled. I didn't have the receipt but the MEAT WAS STILL WRAPPED AND LABELED AND THE BEST BEFORE DATE CLEARLY VISIBLE. BBEFORE APRIL 14th. This store does not even rate 1 star! read more

Since moving to Steveston, Ive been to the Super Grocer twice. Reading the previous reviews before going there, I read some complaints that it was expensive... I beg to differ, some items like microwaveable tv meals/ice cream are indeed more expensive than the Superstore or Walmart BUT there are also some items that were a great buy! They had their own packaged Canadian Brie for 1.70 cdn! See photo! They also have a BIG variety of meat (lamb, chicken, beef, pork) and different Asian products too. I'm pretty sure the produce is less expensive than Safeway.. & just as fresh. The store also has household items like wine opener, bottle cleaners, chopsticks, etc. Super Grocer also has a flower shop, pharmacy, and Canadian Post inside! Staff is pleasant. I hate to give this place a bad review because I have been here so many times but their customer service lacks huge! I went to buy a flower arrangement Thursday evening and they didn't have what I was looking for so the lady said she will have the other lady call me. That happened mid day on Friday and she said just come in and wouldn't make anything specific. Okay so I go in Saturday at 9am and I pick something. I pay by credit and then ask for a little card as it was a gift. Well that was .50 and I didn't have cash. She points to a little place where she wraps flowers. Why would I look there and why would the lady ask at the till? Anyways they didn't offer me a card for the flowers. A little pissed as I am in that store weekly. Bye bye Super Grocer. Where else you going to go when your in Steveston Village and you need a grocery store, and convenience is key and your lazy to jump in the car and drive to somewhere else to get your goods, your coming here, cause it is here. This was the first time I stepped foot in this place, as my partner needed some minor items and we were in Steveston and didn't have much time to go anywhere else to buy groceries, and also the car was parked close. I didn't realize this place was that big, I always drive by it when I come into Steveston Village, but I have never needed anything in terms of groceries when I come in here. I guess you could say this grocery store has this area cornered especially if you live here and don't want to drive. A fair sized produce section, and a nice fridge selection with your milk and eggs, from what I noticed. Isles and isles of canned and dried products, like every other grocery store, the prices are ok but if you know how to shop, you will know if they are good or not. They have a fair selection of flowers, also they have a pharmacy in here. I noticed that there were many Japanese women that worked here and were happy with smiles, maybe it was a sunny day! They also sell lotto here too, as I did line up for that, and unfortunately on this day, that line up seemed to be packed with people buying cigarettes, must be a sunny day indeed if everyone needs one! If you have been to Steveston Village, you probably have crossed this place too many times, just know there is a grocery store here. read more

I can't understand why the food inspector doesn't pay them a visit and explain to them how to handle the expiry date on meats etc. properly or aleast make an attempt to rotate the products properly. Went here a few weeks ago & saw they had some plants I wanted. I couldn't buy as much as I needed so I wanted to go back for more at another time. When that time came, I called ahead to make sure they had them before I drove all the way to Steveston from Surrey. They said they had loads but couldn't give the price or any details on how big the plants were. I'd have to drive over to see for myself. They were pretty damn short with me on the phone & couldn't wait to get rid of me. Well after a 45 min drive, I get there & find that they didn't have the damned plants anyway! All the prices are so marked up.. especially things like shampoo or cosmetics. They are known to sell food that is past the expiry date and the customer service is horrendous. As someone who has lived in Steveston for 65 years and remember when Super Gracer was Super Value it always had a lot of Asian/Japanese foods. Its run by a Chinese Filipino family and most employees english is a second language like most Asian stores in Richmond. You cant beat the prices at the pharmacy and meats and their beef is as good as any private butcher shops in west Richmond never mind Safeway or Save On. If you live in Richmond and you need staff that is fluent in English this is not the store for you. Stick with Safe Way and Save on Foods. Probably moving to Richmond wasnt a great idea read more

I need to update a previous review by way of downgrading my opinion based on a very unpleasant experience I had recently returning an item that had gone bad. I do not believe I have ever met such negative and suspicious attitude when this was brought back. All I could think of as I left the store was the owners better get their s**t together soon because a well-known grocery chain will soon be opening up down the street which means all those customers that have been treated poorly over the years are not going to walk, they're going to run as fast as they can away from Super Grocer. This is the grocery store with the worst service in Richmond, and home to the most unfriendly staff I have ever met. I would give it 0 stars if I could. I was looking for flowers and picked up a small vase of arrangements on the counter to take a better look. The lady behind the counter gave me a full volume, 2 minute scolding about how those had already been reserved for another customer and how I should "NEVER TOUCH WITHOUT ASKING!!!" Wow.. then don't leave it over the flower counter with other merchandise for sale?? I have boycotted this place but unfortunately my mail is now delivered to the post office inside this location. Their attitude is still the same regardless of department.. this place has been my go to place for choice cuts of meats and basic fruit and veggie choices. its a family run local biz, and i think we should always support local. i live close by so frequent this place a lot....i practically know everyone there and they always greet me with a smile... i agree with previous reviews that for basic groceries, yes they can be a little pricier than safeway/saveon...but its just around the corner and very convenient. why do people go 7-11? same deal. for their meats however, it is the best deal in town. from pork chops to ribs to steaks to chicken....freshly packed with low prices. they are every family's dream. packaged from small to large..there is something for everyone. despite the size, they try and carry a wide range of stuff and cover as much as they can. every week, they have a flier in the local paper advertising items that are on sale...from meats to fruits ... yes, at times, they do mark down stuff that are close to expiring or 1-2 months past...well, we always have a choice. if people find that offensive, dont buy it then...simple choice. i have been a loyal patron for years and am very thankful they are close by....all my bbq meats come from them and they have cuts that no one has. if you know the butchers, you can even customize the cut..( hint!! ) ;) more power to them read more

I come here only for the meats (and occasionally flowers). They have the best deals for meats and usually the quality is very good. Every week they have different specials and I started learning to cook different cuts of meat based on what I buy on sale! Other than meats, the other parts of the grocer is mediocre and some may say pricey, but I wouldn't come here for other things. For the meat and what it's priced at, it's 5 stars. e.g. I've gotten chicken drumsticks w/thigh for about $2.50/kg. It's probably $8/kg at Pricesmart. Despite the fact that their customer service is deplorable, I have gone there because they had some beautiful cut flowers...when I went in to purchase a floral arrangement I found very little to choose from and what was there wasn't pleasing. I don't think the talented lady formerly employed is there any more. I did end up choosing some pale pink roses with baby's breath...when I got home and put them in a vase I noticed some petals were already falling and by the end of the day there were lots more...I sent them an e-mail with pictures hoping for an apology and a refund....they didn't have the decency to respond. This is one of my least favorite grocery stores but I still end up coming here a few times a month. Pros: - Decent prices for flowers - Post office on site with nice staff at the post office - Pharmacy with nice staff there - Inexpensive produce Cons: - The grocery store has some of the most unfriendly staff, particularly at the cash register! - NO returns - I obviously don't return food in general, but they do sell non-food items and basically if there's a problem with anything, you're out of luck - Extra charge for bags and cash only for purchases under $5. - Their rewards program sucks and the cards never seem to scan properly It's the largest grocery store in Steveston and this is your only one-stop grocer in the area. The cons are terrible, particularly the horrid cashiers, so I try to go elsewhere when I have time and even will make multiple stops at the other Steveston stores (there's a produce store and bakery nearby) rather than coming here. read more

The selection is ok, they carry the basics and a bit more but you may leave empty handed if you're on the hunt for something specific. The flower selection is pretty decent and they put together some nice arrangements. The staff however, are just zombies. As someone else said it's probably due to working conditions. Yes, the cheap cheese...those little orange spots are listeria bacteria spores from old cheese they have repackaged. The cheap meat....repackaged. I once watched two employees taping up a package of something a child had torn open to put it back on the shelves. I have been treated so rudely by these people for years I am so relieved to have another option. There are always expired products so if you wish to pay a cheap price for expired products. I was standing on the designated spot 6 feet away from the other person and one woman not following social distancing rules at all. A grossly rude male employee not sure if it was a manager if so that is frightening! told me to go outside, wait and read the sign..I did you stupid moron!! Super Grocer, or as my family here in Steveston like to call it the IGA (but it isn't) has been a part of the modern community of Steveston for many years now. As far back as the 70's if I can remember that far back. Quirky owners who seem to know how to keep their business afloat with the right combination of products and prices. I've always been a bit wary of their meat selection, but everything else there is good. This review is for the Pharmacy and their attention to sugar substitutes. 1) There is a pharmacy in the back and they also do delivery for seniors who can't always come by to pick up their prescriptions. Home delivery service is something needed in this area. I'm glad that they still provide this service for the growing and aging local population. 2) They have some great sugar substitutes in the baking section One of them I really like which is their Cactus Honey Powder. Great for baking, coffee's and tea's and more! There is also a good variety of ethnic Asian foods available. Most notably, Japanese, Chinese and Philipino. My kids being one or a combination of all three love this place. read more

This place is low-priced and has great deals. It is close by to many residential areas, and is right across the street from the park. The staff was friendly. The cashiers were young and bright, probably still in high school. I read they support the Richmond Center for Disability and have staff from the Center, might explain some of their service problems. I've been coming to this place for years, and have used all their services. It has a pharmacy and post office inside which is really nice. There's a good assortment of asian, especially japanese, and western foods. The flowers and plants are inexpensive for the types of bouquets made, they are beautiful. Orchids are especially prominent. The produce is probably the best place to buy fresh fruits and vegetables at a great price in steveston. Best grocery store here. read more

Not much of a bakery section, but apparently their banana bread pudding's pretty good, according to a restaurant client in the area. Started shopping here since the early 90s. For the last 10 year, shopping mainly for something needed last minute. I strongly agreed with all the reviews with regards to bad service & expired food. I was there today, found the tofu & the Lee Kum Kee oyster flavoured sauce expired. I don't know what's happened to this store. It used to be my go to place for fresh flowers and some groceries. The staff at the checkout need to learn the definition of customer service. I was picking up some single roses on my way to a memorial service and I asked for the flowers to be removed from the packaging and re-wrapped. They charge for this now as I was told rudely. I then asked if they could just cut off the wrap and was told 'they're not allowed'. Frustrated now, I asked if I could borrow their scissors and cut the wrapping myself. If I could give negative stars, I would. The cashiers lady and manager were both extremely rude! I was lining up to pay and the customer before us didn't put their shopping cart back in the parking lot. The cashier then demanded me to put a cart that wasn't even mine back rudely! Because of the virus, I didn't want to touch it and the employee kept on screaming at me for not helping her! I went to the manager and told him the whole situation. He then told me to wait for the cashier lady to finish serving a whole line of customers and then, she will apologize to me! Outrageous! I'm not staying until they close for her to apologize. Um... wow. Probably one of the WORST and most hilarious customer service experiences in a grocery store. Went to buy flowers for a gift. After paying, I asked for a paper sheet to wrap the bouquet. I was directed to the flower section near the exit. When I asked the woman in the floral dept to remove the plastic, she told me it would cost me $1 to which I replied, no problem, I can just take it off myself because, I've already stood in line for 10 min and paid, why line up and pay again for something so simple it really should be a courtesy like it would be in most places one would buy flowers. Her response was to slam my delicate bouquet of flowers down (which I had already paid for) and throw the sheet of paper at me and mutter something at me while turning on her heel, LOL. Second time (and this will be the last) I've had a really rude experience with this flower dept. I went to the cashier and asked for the manager. The woman pointed out another woman and when I approached her I asked her "are you the manager, I had a problem?" and her response was "Maybe, why?" Really??? No accountability for their customer service. What does that say about the this place? At first I thought maybe they were just having a bad day (or 2), but after reading the reviews on here it kinda sounds like any day is bad day at this place. read more

I. Despise. Super Grocer. I will ensure I write a thorough grocery list and support another business to ensure I am not spending my dollars supporting this one. However, I end up supporting this one due to the convenience of their location. I've been here too often.... I hate that people buy into the convenience of the location. I'm guilty of that and I kick myself every time. I have to buy over $5 worth of items in order to use my credit card. The selection is okay. The meats are questionable. The florist and the post-office people are nice, but majority of the workers there provide really distasteful customer service. I've chatted to a couple cashiers who were complaining about customers.... as they checked out my groceries. (I don't care but they started talking about the "old white lady" demographic, almost oblivious to a woman of that demographic behind me. My guess is that this probably comes from the management because how you lead an organization is key to leading, well, anything. Here's a little story about the manager: I was with a friend because we wanted to host a free, youth-led music festival in Steveston. We needed to ask around for sponsorship and to hang up posters. So, we asked to speak with the manager. We could've accepted some basic-level of respect and a simple no. (Some other retailers told us that and we were okay.) Instead, this is how the manager responded to us (two obviously young people with no experience in this trying to be as professional as possible). As we were speaking, the manager would NOT give either of us any eye contact as we spoke. Instead, he mouthed words to someone else behind us, laughed at us, and crossed his arms and shook his head. IT WAS EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND DIDN'T EVEN MEET THE BASIC FUNDAMENTAL LEVELS OF RESPECT. I was disgusted by his rudeness. Simple eye contact, 2 minutes of his time and a no would have sufficed. Thank you for that great sense of community and support. Jerk. ***UPDATE: I happened to overhear a customer complaining about expired meat. They do not regularly check their shelves. So, I bought expired chips once. Not a big deal... they were only about a week old. However, I've seen mouldy grated parmesan and moldy garlic imported from China. So... Totally a "I really don't want to go here but I do because it's close" kind of place. I've seen canned food on their shelves that was more than a year expired, and don't get me started on the questionable meat department (have you ever seen yellow chicken???). When you request assistance no one speaks English or they are rude or not knowledgable. My family has made several pacts never to go there again but we keep stopping in for last minute items. I went back to complain with my bill and they said that they would check the videotape, but I haven't heard back. WARNING NO. 2 Their checkout machine was programmed IMO to overbill by a couple of cents per dollar -- something that most people won't notice. (I know a software programmer who wrote a similar algorhytm for a checkout computer years ago, to round up to the seller's favour. In four years of operation, there were only 2 customers who caught on.) WARNING NO.3 Two items were priced incorrectly in their favour. ON THE PLUS SIDE: Their prices are really low when they have a special -- much better than Save On and the large grocery chains. Their produce prices are lower than the produce store on the same corner. UPDATE - Got my refund for their overcharge, but they never phoned as was promised. I consistently find items that are far past their expiry dates (in one instance, 3 years past!) and their "sales" that are posted are often misrepresented (have all varieties at the front of the aisle, when only 1 variety is on sale but not clearly represented). But be warned, you may be rudely accosted by an employee accusing you of parking over the posted time limit (even if you haven't) and then demanding that you converse in Mandarin chinese (which I don't). Management is also less than enthusiastic about making your shopping experience enjoyable. In principle, I cannot shop here, as they care less about service and loyalty, and more about their bottom line. This is pretty much one of your only option in Steveston if you absolutely need grocery and don't feel like driving. I used to work in the Steveston area for a short time and I used to come here to get something healthy to eat like fruits, veggies etc., however, I wouldn't count on it as being the staple for my grocery needs. In terms of unfriendly staff, I've never needed any help, however, I have noticed that they don't smile at the til but it wasn't something that bothered me too much or warrant enough points docked off.
