It's true - Adelaide has its fair share of cyclists. Not heaps and heaps of them, but you'll see one (or nearly be hit by one) or more each and every day. 'Super Elliotts Cycles' has some really cool looking bikes...I was seriously impressed!
I used to be a massive BMX boy when I was younger, until it broke down and I couldn't afford to buy a new one. They don't sell any BMX bikes (oh....disappointing!), but they do sell the latest and the best in bicycles. But in terms of the latest bicycles for 2012, (you know that ones that the Tour Down Under cyclists use), the look and weight of bikes have definitely evolved over the past 20 years.
I wish Adelaide drivers were a little more careful and considerate of cyclists, because I would totally do a ride around Adelaide city in a new bike - I do get a bit scared on the roads here, but if I eventually conquer my biking fears, I reckon it'd be fun! - But because I don't have a bike (I might ask around my friends if they are giving away one they don't use anymore), and I'm a pretty fit young guy who loves the marathon runs, I am always more than happy to walk it.
One day in the near future, when I have more money, I'll definitely buy a new bike from here. They have other little things on offer here, not just bikes. They offer helmets, bright clothing, and other tools that will maintain your bike.
Negative: This shop is full of several young Aussie blokes who don't approach you for a bloody long time, but when one finally does ask you, "Do you need some help?", he'll be happy to inform you about a lot of details about each bike you're interested in.
What I didn't like is a couple of the young guys behind the counter were just standing there, staring at me, making a joke about me and laughing at me (for the newcomers to Australia, it's actually typical Aussie sense of humour to pay someone out - in other words, criticise someone on how they look or what they're doing). If I was to guess, I think they thought I was strange for asking to look at their most expensive bikes. It was off-putting, and made me slightly uncomfortable. I was really into the bikes on offer, but when you have staff laughing at you, it's so distracting. So a big one star off for that treatment to a new potential customer.
The service did take a dreadfully long time after walking up and down twice (boo!), but it's worth it when ONE finally helps you narrow down the bike that you want.
It's definitely a fun and affordable method of transport. Current prices as of January 2012:
Cheapest bikes on offer start at $300
Tour Down Under bikes on offer, priced at around $6 000
The best looking and lightest bikes (electrically ran = WOW! ), priced around $8 000 - $10 000. read more
