Living in Glenelg you kinda get used to seeing people clad in lycra (whether they should be or not)…read moreperched on the thinnest, lightest, most aerodynamic bit of machinery they can possibly buy, that costs as much as a small car. Well, Glenelg Cycles is one of the places that you will find these people drooling over the latest road bike or buying a pair of those clackety shoes that annoy you as they walk in the coffee shops. They have a good range of bikes and bike paraphernalia. In fact I bought my first ever adult bike from them when I was 16 so they have been around for a while. As you have probably guessed by now, I am not part of the lycra clad brigade, but I do love bike riding. I have a "vintage" road bike and I enjoy a fairly decent ride on it. I go to Glenelg Cycles to get my bike serviced or to buy various parts from time to time. The staff are helpful and do a good efficient job. For any other pseudo bike riders, a great tip: they have a foot pump out the front of the shop which is great if you are looking for somewhere to pump up the tyres while you are out and about. Tip: Don't try and get any maintenance done when the Tour Down Under is on as they are flat out.

Curious Review this one... My bike is an 'honest' commuter and it developed a scraping noise. (Referring to the name on my bike - "Studds" - that I bought brand new over the internet - its a Chinese bike imported by an Australian business). I asked whether they could look at it and was told that because my bike was 'not valuable' enough and they wouldn't touch it... whaaaaat ??? I was willing to pay for them to fix it (I thought that money was 'good' everywhere) ... I've never come across elitism in the bike-servicing world... but now I have. Sad thing for them was as well as the service (for which they charge $99), I was going to buy some extras from them... worth around $150. They did give me the name of somewhere else I could go - so I'm grateful for that advice. But folks, the message here is, make sure your bike is a 'name' brand. I've travelled the world and my money has been the same as everyone else's. I wasn't rude or overbearing... just surprised as I walked out. Well, I suppose I won't get my next bike from there either. Nice knowing you Glenelg Cycles... if you treat all your potential customers that way, you won't stay in business long.

In terms of sporting gear, they have the lot - tennis racquets, basketball hoops, swimming equipment, sport shoes, treadmills, gym equipment, and so much more. Pricing is a tad high but still around Recommended Retail Price or a bit less. Assistance from the staff though is always good and they offer good explanations behind the products to help you find exactly what you are looking for. I bought a pair of sneakers from here and they have lasted very well. The store person was able to suggest a pair based on my podiatrists recommendations and find my size within just a matter of seconds (something that generally takes a while at other stores).

Also, he measured my shoe size, I thought I was 8.5, but no, I'm a 10, deplorable I do not have little lady like feet in the slightest which I pointed out to my salesman and he replied "it's because you're tall" what a gem. Huge range of products, lots of fitness wear I would kill to have in my wardrobe, or I could pay for them. I don't feel uneasy in here because it's so big, you get to have a browse before any sales assistants pounce on you which is great because I hate being asked if I need help before I even know if I need any help. I love this place, I truly do, get on it.
