Johnstown is a dying town, so I really feel bad for posting a negative review. Also, the other available hotels must be priced just to take advantage of government travelers, because there are likely very few people coming for leisure and the prices of excessively high. OK. Let me start with some positives. The women working the registration desk (Krista?) was a gem. Despite all the reasons for being dreary, she was passionate and caring about her position and my comfort. She was engaging and provided recommendations on where to go for food and drink, even printing out directions so we wouldn't get lost. I wish she could buy the place and run it herself. Also, the TV worked, the room had a small refrigerator and microwave. Oh, free parking.
Now for the critical parts: First, my room was supposed to be ready but wasn't when I checked in. After a while in attempting to communicate, I finally figured out she needed 5 more minutes. She should've taken 15. The room smelled overwhelmingly of chemicals and I had to open the window and vacate for a while. The carpet was dirty, including spots of dried plaster from what looked like a handyman attempt to fix the wall. The bathroom faucet had a free spinning handle resulting in a mystery temperature experience. I pulled back the bed skirt and was met with spilled crumbs, sugar, and other garbage. Similarly, when I moved the TV for an angled view. Oh, but let's not stop there... The middle drawer of the dresser wouldn't close all the way, so I pulled it out to discover two used underwear, a pair of old socks, and a women's or child's dirty blouse. You think I'm exaggerating? Yelp doesn't allow pictures, but you can see them in TripAdvisor's review. How about a curved shower curtain with a pitch so steep that I couldn't make the curtain stay closer than 8 inches from the wall. This resulted in water streaming out of the shower regardless of how careful I tried to be. Did I mention the wifi didn't work? It may have been my room as my friend staying at the same hotel was able to log in.
But the worst? The iron bed frame was too big for the boxspring. It had two bars that stuck straight out and despite my attempts, I could not get the mattress any closer to the edge. As a result, every night getting out of bed to use the facilities (yes, we did some drinking), I would slam my ankle into this protruding iron bar. It wasn't until the third night that my automatic defenses kicked in having been reminded of a cut and bruised ankle (it looks worse now than the picture shows as the bruise has spread all along the side of my foot).
I realize this place is cheaper when compared to other places in Johnstown, but last night I just stayed at a magnificent hotel for the same price in high cost of living California. Super clean, modern, pool, hot tub, and at least twice the size. This is not a place I will stay again. read more
