Sunzibar is one of the nostalgic food places I go to every time I visit my hometown of Tacloban. I have not had nachos as good as theirs, and their rum ribs are a staple. Unfortunately, the ribs were not available during our last visit so we opted for the Diablo pork chops, which are equally amazing and have a subtle kick of spiciness (probably very subtle for non-Taclobanons though). The big dishes come with two drinks (their signature Redberry iced tea is very refreshing) and the portions are adequate for dinner servings.
They have moved from their location from a tight spot on Burgos st. to a roomier area a block away, which is definitely the right move as this place gets packed during the weekends/nights. Their ambiance is warm and perfect for gatherings. We were seated at a large table that can hold about 10 people, and it was quiet when we went since it was mid-afternoon on a weekday. I'm glad to see this business thriving amidst all the challenges in the city over the last few years. I will be back the next time I visit the city. read more
