We have come to Siesta Key for the past 8+ years and have always rented 522 Canal Street (the most…read morerented house on the island). When we walked to the beach every morning we always passed Plaza de Las Palmas and wondered what it looked like inside as we always loved the outside. It has a main house with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, full kitchen, 2 eating areas, laundry area, and a nice pool. In addition, you can rent the cottage separately from the house, which has 1 bedroom, kitchen, laundry area, and full bath. We rented both. From what we understand, if you rent just the cottage (1-2 people) then you would not have use of the pool; there is a small patio in the back of the cottage though... The house/cottage is 1 block from beach access 8, which will take you directly to the fine, white sand beach on the gulf coast of Florida. The house has a very open floor plan, which we really like; it says it has cable TV, but we only had local antenna TV. It's stocked with books, games, and a TV in pretty much every room. The rooms in the house consisted of 1 king bed; 2 twin beds; 1 full bed; and the couch pulled out to a bed. It has a nice fireplace, if you would ever need it. The cottage has 1 queen bed (it looks like a full bed though). Downsides: kitchen is pretty small and is not a "through" kitchen; it dead ends into a wall. We had 12 people, so not everyone could fit under the same roof to sleep (we rented the cottage too). More expensive than 522 Canal Street when both house/cottage are rented together. Rooms are smaller than 522 Canal Street Positives: great location, great pool (nicer/cleaner than 522 Canal Street), open floor plan, has a gas grill (huge for us as we grill out a lot), and great lounge chairs at the pool (522 had metal chairs, which were always very hot and easily burned you... these are cloth). We all agreed that we would chose this house/cottage over 522 Canal for future years... it's closer to the shops in downtown Siesta Key, Daiquiri Deck, beach access, etc. For us it was just a better feel and "fit" our family much better. The parents of the owners live a few doors down, so they stopped down the first day just to make sure everything was okay.... Great pics are on their web site...

My partner and I rented a home in Venice, Fl. for the months of February and March, 2025…read more Unfortunately our experience was less than we expected as the home was not ready for occupancy when we arrived on Saturday, February 1st. Because it was a Saturday the office was closed and we had to obtain our entry packet through a lock box. Our first problem was trying to enter the front door with the code we were given. The code was incorrect and we spent quite awhile trying to make it work. A phone call to Horse & Chaise was answered by a recording. We went around to the side and were finally able the get in using the keys. but to our dismay the paving bricks all along the side of the house were loose. An orange construction cone was on top. The pavers along the pool underneath the cage were also loose. This was a problem as our 4 and 2 year old granddaughters were coming on the 3rd. We finally got ahold of someone at Horse & Chaise on Monday but although Brian came and took pictures, it was over a week until the pavers were repaired and as we feared our granddaughters tripped and fell. It was several days until the code was changed so we could access the home through the front door. There was a CharBroil gas grill out by the pool under the cage. It did not appear it had been used in some time. It was rusty and the warmest it got was 250 degrees. We used it once after scrubbing it with a brillo pad but our food had chunks of rust and metal on it. We went to Ace Hardware and bought a small grill. Also evident was the cockroach infestation. We killed several. Finally, the bench alongside the bistro table in the Florida room was missing a support rail and was wobbly. We approached Horse & Chaise regarding some compensation for our less than satisfactory experience. We were rebuffed. Think twice about renting through Horse & Chaise.

We rented Casa Mar unit 15 last week. After we got there we found out that most of the people we…read morewere there with rented through Casa Mar. Our units rent price was almost $1000.00 dollars more a week. Our unit was not any better than theirs. Also, we had a message on the refrigerator to wash all of our towels and dishes before we left. I have never stayed anywhere that has required that. I would think you would want to have housekeeping to do this to make sure that they are properly cleaned. There was not a washer and dryer in the unit, so we had to use the coin machines.
