I spent several years looking for a long term facility for her because I didn't want to be caught off guard if something happened and she needed placed. I didn't want this important decision made in haste. After visiting more than a dozen facilities in the valley I selected Pacifica. I tell you the background because I have read several reviews not all good about the facility and I feel it's important give perspective. In addition to my research and visiting the facilities around the valley, my father was in three different facilities before he passed. What I have learned and I believe families should be aware is no place is going to feel perfect. No place is going to be as good as your loved one with normal health or brain function and living in their own home. So it's important to look for a partner in your care. I am beyond grateful that I found Pacifica. Although it's only 4 min from my house I would not have known about it without Care Patrol who let me know they had Alzheimer's cottages. From the first visit I felt heard, understood and respected. When we have had what I call "growing pains" them learning my mom, them learning my expectations and me learning their abilities and goals for mom, the executive director and departmental directors have had their doors wide open. When there have been challenges there has been a very lovely word - "yes" that they use in order to make sure we find a way to make the situation better. I love that my mom still has dignity and privacy in the cottage. I love that the little things to make her room a home have been met with a yes. I think the cottage based system should be the future for Alzheimer's. I have not seen a cognition based system implemented as well as it is here. My mom is very high functioning and so are the peers in her cottage. But I have the peace of mind knowing when she does need more help or loses her ability to communicate etc that there is a place for her on the same property in another cottage. They never materialized. She joins a long list of residents who moved in only to discover the reality of living there was nothing like the slick marketing website and brochure full of fake photos, fake food, fake residents and fake activities. I personally witnessed residents move out within a month of moving in. This is a CORPORATE-RUN facility that is chronically and deliberately understaffed. Bless the care givers and med-techs. They are overworked and so underpaid, most of them have full-time second jobs. They are constantly quitting due to the poor work conditions. You NEVER see senior staff in the building providing support because they're busy in their offices inventing new ways to cut costs. Waiting 30 minutes for someone to answer a call light is standard. The food is barely edible. For years it's been the same reheated from frozen food...cooked in another building and then brought to assisted living in unplugged food warmers. It is rarely warm. Residents are left to sit in their rooms or sit outside staring at a parking lot all day. There is no sense of community or fun. Individual birthdays are neither recognized nor celebrated. There's no music, no movies, no outings, no excitement, no creative outlet, nothing to do and nothing to look forward to. It's been the same 20 minute chair yoga and rotating 30 minute card games for 3 years. They're now moving their sales person with zero activities experience to lead activities because their last activities director quit. In the past 5 months, this facility has lost its executive director, nurse, resident care coordinator, maintenance director, chef, activities director, business manager and four med-techs. The Arizona Department of Health Services is frequently at this facility conducting inspections due to complaints of neglect and poor resident care. If you want the truth about this facility, look up "Pacifica Senior Living bankruptcy." Pacifica Companies is the owner of this home. Last year after a fall I was told she was "fine." She was never assessed by a nurse despite my asking for 4 consecutive days. I finally insisted she be taken to a hospital where she was diagnosed with a "life-threatening brain bleed", from which she has permanent cognitive injuries to this day. A few weeks ago, my Mom fell and again they failed to properly assess or treat her. I was told she was "fine" only to discover she was in too much pain to stand up. I called 911 to have her taken to a hospital and it turns out she had a hip fracture. I called the interim Executive Director, Erin Masterson, who also runs Cottages at Peoria (they have the identical website with the same fake photos) and asked her to return my call to discuss my Mom's injuries. Not only did she not return my call, she texted me that my Mom "refused to go to the hospital this morning," as if that absolves her of the responsibility to properly assess and communicate my Mom's injuries. Instead she blamed my 83 year old mother (who has dementia) for not wanting to go to a hospital. I've since moved my Mom to a new home. She's received more competent care in this FULLY STAFFED home in 2 days than she ever did during her 3 years at Pacifica/ Paradise Valley. Read the reviews of this company and of this facility. Do not believe the fake marketing and false promises of "change." Also disregard the light on details fake 5 star reviews. As long as Pacifica Companies owns this facility, it will NEVER change or improve.

The facility itself is wonderful with a massive great room with high ceilings and a huge kitchen that lends itself to socialization. The staff are very good, and my grandmother was very complimentary to several of them, the care they took with her bathing, the day-to-day attention, and the food! She absolutely loved the cooking. Some of the benefits of this place included exercise classes, social activities, pampering with manicures and pedicures, backyard conducive to bird-watching, massive TV in great room, and regular visits by a nurse practitioner to handle prescriptions and other miscellaneous medical issues. This ability for the facility to handle the routine medical issues was key for us given that we did not live in Arizona. Brie, the day-to-day manager, was absolutely fantastic in every way, and Josh, the owner, was also excellent to deal with on various business issues. We ended up moving our grandmother after the 8 months so that she could be closer to us, and we had very mixed emotions given how well she did at Carefree as well as the relationships she developed there. It was an emotional farewell, to put it mildly. I would highly recommend Carefree and I am just very grateful for Brie, Josh, and the staff.

We found this home thru "a place for mom" and moved her there at the end of December . Although she only lived another two weeks , the care she received there was nothing short of amazing. The whole staff, Bree, Josh and all the caregivers were all very caring individuals. Even the hospice nurse who I am sure had seen her share of care facilities, told us this place was a quality place. Even more amazing was that our primary care physician's grandma has lived there for 3 years. We sold our home very quickly, before the total renovation of our apartment was completed so the sales team at Vi provided housing for us for 5 weeks and absorbed the cost of storage of our furniture. They provided a recommendation for an excellent mover, and put us in touch with a relocation specialist who drew a floor plan to advise which pieces of furniture would fit in our new space. This experience has been much better than we could have expected. The staff is overwhelmingly kind and responsive, the food is delicious (two dining spaces, one formal and one casual) and we are so comfortable in our beautiful apartment. The place is spotless and welcoming. They have a small kitchen to use. I also noticed on my way out that there is a cabinet full of games and things to do while you're there. Family members are able to stay there overnight if they desire. There is a sofa and easy chair in each room along with sink and toilet. I'm glad I went as my friend's husband is not doing well. He was resting peacefully and that's all we can ask. They have their own parking.
