I decided to give this thrift store a shot because of all the other thrift stores in this plaza. When I first walked in, it smelled of dust and damp water. It was a really nasty gross smell. Everything was cluttered around. I went to the household items to look for some items, and all I saw was junk. There was a lot of old and rusty items stocked, which was strange. I would never take some of these items even if they were free! Most of it should not have been put on the shelf. We found absolutely nothing. We saw one cute figurine, but it was broken and they wanted $6 for it. No thanks. I do not want to pay for broken items that are not even worth $6 fixed. We walked around a bit more and to be honest we saw more junk. They had a bunch of larger household items and garage items. All of it was super old. There was dust on items. You could not even look at some because they decided to close all walkways with furniture. It seems that they just shoved furniture in one collective spot, where you can not even reach anything to look at it. The furniture was super old too. It looked like items that people place on the street or on Craigslist for free. Sadly, I will not be back here. read more

I wasn't really impressed with this place, and feel like your better off going to the resale thrift shop at the other end of the strip mall instead of this place. I was here only because I was in the mall to begin with, and wasn't all that impressed. The store is organized with a variety of items, but after a closer look, it wasn't very impressive. The purses were way dirty, old and beaten up. The furniture was is poor shape, from the 1970's and I think the recliner I sat in was broken. The clothing seemed okay, but I didn't try anything on. Please don't go here. There's plenty of other shops to purchase stuff in that's in WAY better shape. I will not be back. read more

If you're addicted to thrift shopping like I am, this is definitely a place to check out. Strangely, Sunshine is located in a plaza that houses TWO thrift shops (itself, and Community thrift). Sunshine is the smaller of the two, but in some cases size doesn't count. I like Sunshine because their prices are always excellent. This is the home of the 60-cent shirt! Every thrift shop in the area prices their products differently (even if we're talking about Salvation Army on Auburn versus Salvation Army on Gratiot)... and Sunshine is by far the cheapest of all. Price isn't the only thing that Sunshine has going for them. Some of the coolest jackets and shirts I own I got from there. I'm all for getting Old Navy or Gap clothes on the cheap... but to be able to snag TRUE vintage clothes at thrift store prices is unbeatable! (As opposed to paying hipster prices at a resale shop. Ahem.) They have a decent book selection, but this may not be a place to look for movies or records at; they have them, but the selection is small. Even still, there's a large selection of men's and women's tops, bottoms, coats, and shoes. What more could you ask for? Ah yes... 60-cent shirts! read more

There is a lot of negative reviews here, mostly the smell I see is a concern. To those of you who are looking to thrift and get those diamonds in the rough, this is the place. On any random day I can walk in and find at least five things to resell or flip on the internet for a profit. When talking in terms of clothing they have better men's clothes than others in the area. You can find name brand gear sometimes with retail tags on it for cheap and if you pick your days right there will often be sales on certain color tags. Sunshine is a resell heaven if that's what you're looking to do. There was a period where any day I walk in there would be Starbucks ceramic or metal drink containers that could be easily flipped for profit. The coolest childhood thing that I had seen in there was a POG board game starter set that I had no idea existed. Was going for 80 on ebay they wanted 15 I think. So before you start complaining about the smell of the store you might wanna learn what good finds smell like. read more

I love this store. The staff aren't the friendliest, especially if your children are with you. But they've had the best sales ever. Although, it's no longer with us. I have to say R.I.P to the .50 cent sales at this store. For the past couple months I was able to bond with my family members every Saturday (some Sundays too) morning while sifting through the great items they had. Some of the name brands include Seven and Chip and Pepper jeans, Vera Wang Fall jackets, Old Navy, Gap, Abercrombie and Fitch and much much more. While they all weren't .50 cent, the prices never really exceeded $7.00. Sunshine Thrift Store... A great place to shop and bond with the girls about all the great deals you're finding together. So, it's all too often that when people say "Hey, nice dress" I answer with, "Thanks, got it for 2 bucks" That 2 buck deal is normally coming from Mt. Clemens' ultimate thrift store, The Sunshine Thrift Store. Located On Gratiot this is probably my favorite thrift store in Metro Detroit. The selection is great, the sections well organized. Ths Sunshine often has me loading up on vintage dresses I'd normally be paying 30 bucks for. In addition, you can often find vintage musical instruments and fantastic housewares like dishes and microwaves. All the items I've purchased here, which are too many to count, have been in great condition. Oh, and they even have fitting rooms. How awesome is that!!!!? read more

I have been in this store several times over the past 5 or 6 years and have watched prices steadily go way up on clothing. On other items its usually a crapshoot on prices. Records and tapes spring to mind. No set prices I guess. But today was the last straw. I think the blond haired guy who owns the shop copped such an attitude with me I will never return. First I had to sit thru a 20 minute cluster f#*k of epic proportions at the register. Why, because even though the sign by Gratiot said the store was overstocked and 1/2 off it only applied to what he wanted it to apply to. I had 21 8 track tapes and asked why they were not half off and he got snappy with me. My advice to you my friend is this. You are the worst thrift store on a road where there are plenty of other options. Keep treating people like this and there will be a for lease sign up in that space very soon. read more

Sunshine is a pretty good store, my only issue with it is that it's a women's store. They shouldn't bother with the men's stuff if they just aren't going to have space for it except 4 racks and call it a day. Everything in here is pretty well straightened and stocked. I guess the more difficult part of this place is that it is in the same strip mall as another thrift store, but it is nice to have this much selection between the two. Come check it out! read more

Total dump. I honestly have no clue how this building pays its rent every month. The inventory is absolutely disgusting- stained, old, smelly clothing. Don't expect to find a single "name brand" here. The prices are the worst part- $4.99-$8.99 for a shirt? Really? I've tried to give this place multiple chances, hoping I would come across even one item that would make the trip worth it, but I have been disappointed every single time. They can't compete with Community Thrift Store, which is right next door. read more

This place is the biggest trash bin I have ever seen and been too. I thought value world took the cake on that, I was horribly mistaken. Worst thrift store in the area. They have a bunch of crap piled at the front door just waiting for God knows who to come in and collect. I walk in on a Saturday ready to drop cash on an item I need that has been sitting for "days." A lady tells me to return on Wednesday if "by Wednesday the purchaser has not shown up to collect it." I arrive Wednesday to a different rude woman who rudely yells "We're closed." The lady I spoke to over the weekend tells me "no, I told you to come back Thursday." Have fun shopping for a bunch of liars and rude retail people. If it weren't for the fact that the money they make benefits those in need, the doors would be shut and no one would return. I am an owner of estate sale company, and I scheduled donation pick ups in a past and they are always late or don't even have me scheduled at all. I have to constantly call and remind, almost like they are doing me a favor picking up donations. Most recently I had a pick up of the estate sale left overs and when they showed up, they stated that they don't want to pick up furniture! Leaving me completely shocked. It's utterly unprofessional especially when I scheduled complete clean out of the estate. Horrible company to do business with. I'm very disappointed and will never use their services and would not recommend them to anyone!!! read more

Not really amused by this place. It's a huge mess. Things are marked like its a garage sale that is trying to make money, not move goods. $800.00 for a table?! $374.00 for a teacup and saucer set? good store when there is 50% off all clothing. If not on sale the prices for thrift store clothing and shoes can be a bit high. Also not sure who does the pricing. But to find a $3 tank next to a $2 vera wang blouse is kind of ridiculous. Not very clean and little assistance from small staff. absolutely disgusting! there were bugs everywhere, it felt like they were jumping on us as we were shopping. the clothes are in no order what so ever and the employees were of no help. one of them actually asked me while i was waiting for some one in the fitting room if i was going to pay and if it was going to be in cash. i used to love going here when i was in high school and had decided on a whim to check them out since it had been a couple of years. that will be the last time. not to mention that their bathroom had no toilet paper or paper towels and it smelled like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks.
