I've shopped at Value World many times and there are definitely some positives worth mentioning. The staff I've interacted with have always been very friendly and knowledgeable, and I really appreciate the promotions and discounts they offer on a regular basis. When things are running smoothly, you can find some good deals. That said, I'm increasingly disappointed with a few things. During promotions, the store is clearly understaffed, and the lines become excessively long for everyone. It turns what should be a fun, bargain-hunting trip into a frustrating experience. I was also told by a staff member that they are instructed to look up every item online before pricing it and putting it on the floor. That approach might make sense from a business standpoint, but it takes away from the feeling that you're getting a fair "thrift store" deal and can really slow down the process of getting items out for customers. What bothers me most, though, is learning that this is a for-profit-only company that doesn't appear to represent any cause or give back to the community. There are donation bins in front of the store, but there's no clear indication that those donations go to a good cause or help people in need. In contrast, many other resale and thrift stores are transparent about supporting local charities, community programs, or people in need. It's disappointing that Value World doesn't seem to do the same, especially when they rely on donations and present themselves in a way that can easily be mistaken for a charitable thrift store. read more

Value world is not a value. Their prices are so high and ridiculous. They want top dollar for everything. As a person on a fixed income, I go there to find deals. You would think this was a consignment shop and not a thrift store. I've been thrift all my life and I've never seen prices like in here. I have shopped at Value World for as long as they have been around. I love the different things they offer to get you into the store - like colors of the day and right now BINGO. My favorite thrift store to shop at. I use to live in the surrounding area, so I would be there all the time! Every once and a while, I'll pop in now. I have noticed some presentation changes which make more space for clothes. Like everywhere else, they have raised the prices of some items. Some items I don't agree with but nobody asked me.. So I'll just keep shopping.. most items which I come to shop for are reasonably priced so I snag those! I never leave empty handed and that's a great trip for me. No matter where you shop, the company should always prioritize cleanliness. This store is off and on with that priority. Covid or not, customers should see someone cleaning. Nothing to do? My favorite thrift store! I like to make a day of it a couple times a year. It's like a treasure hunt & it takes time & dedication but I always walk away with like 20 items for under $50. Some thrift stores (-ahem- Salvation Army) have weirdly high prices but Value World always keeps their pricing in perspective, plus they offer deals & coupons. It's so much fun to walk away with half a new wardrobe for practically nothing. My complaint: There are 2 full-length mirrors (both of which are wonky & distorted) located in a high traffic area. Women congregate there to try on clothes (over top of their own clothing). I understand there's not room to install actual dressing rooms but they could at least get a couple better quality mirrors & put them in a more private corner of the store. If I can't return/exchange my jeans or whatever, I'm going to try them on first under a skirt & I'm sick of being ogled by creepy old dudes & hormone addled young dudes. read more

First off, let me say that I'm impressed to find a business open in the Detroit area on a Sunday! It seems that most businesses around shut down at 3pm on Sunday's. Don't they know most people work during the week??? lol Anyway, Value World is a local chain of Thirft Stores. While their places are not very clean, the assortment of goods they bring in is rather impressive. We stopped in for some snow gear and pimped our 3yr old girl out with a brand-name outfit (Columbia, Timberland) for under $25! And it doesn't even show any wear, until today that is! lol If you like being thrifty, this is a good spot. Just wish they would clean it up a bit more! read more

Moved to the area a year ago and am an avid thrifter so was super excited to find this huge thrift store. Items, for the most part, are clean and well organized and prices are fair. Unfortunately, the downside to this establishment is their staff. I have yet to have one trip here where I have not experienced a rude employee(s). I understand everywhere is short staffed but I have been to many other thrift stores (and other stores in general) and have not had any similar issues anywhere other than here. read more

As someone who fancies themselves a thrift store connoisseur I give this place a positive review. They are a large and spacious store, decently organized for the size and staff that seemed to be on hand. I found some quality items and a great pair of cowboy boots for an impromptu outfit today. I liked the store setup. Very clean and organized. I went on a early Saturday morning on my Eastside Weekend Thrifting Extravaganza. I found two blazers for under $15 out the door. No coupon. The prices are very fair and tons of people in the place by the time I left (2 hours post opening). I will definitely truck back to this location when I am in town. read more

Overpriced for nothing special.. and if you do find something be sure to look for stains/holes etc... I get it's a thrift store but the employees are careless with tag placement. Putting holes in places that will be seen in clothing and shoes. I found two pair I wanted until I seen they had punched a hole right through it to hang the tag! When I shop here, I mainly shop the tiny tots section and the children's books. The 50% off coupons are awesome. I've found some very nice, clean clothing for my infant daughter and some nice books as well. My mom frequently shops this location and the Eastpointe one. Maybe she just has an eye for the good quality items, but, she finds lots of nice things as well. As I've read the other reviews, I agree they sometimes can have long lines. In my experience, they work quickly to move the line. I can't say that I've had a negative experience at Value World. I hope I never do. read more

So after I wrote my review I got the following message from Value World. Basically says their customers are dishonest. Funny that the Salvation Army doesn't have the same problem. Mary- I am very sorry for your experience at our Clinton Twp. stores. I understand that it is extremely frustrating for our honest customers and it is frustrating for us having to implement such strict rules because of the dishonest customers. It is not fair to you but unfortunately when we remove this policy then people immediately start taking advantage. The manager may be one of the most incompetent I've ever interacted with. She has gone through my basket and scolded her workers for low pricing in front of me multiple times. As well as neglecting her training duties and putting people on the register regularly who do not know how to operate or check people out. read more
