It's truly sad and unfortunate to see negative reviews about Grayson Academy, because our…read moreexperience has been nothing short of amazing. My younger brother attended Grayson Academy, and now my very own daughter goes there as well. That alone speaks volumes about the trust I have in them. I wholeheartedly trust Grayson Academy with my daughter. The staff is caring, attentive, and genuinely invested in the children. They offer a variety of activities that keep the kids engaged, learning, and having fun. They are always planning cute, creative, and exciting things for the children to participate in. We have had such a positive experience, and I'm so grateful to be part of the Grayson Academy family.

However, after discovering that staff had slapped my child on the hand and bringing this to their attention, everything changed. Instead of taking accountability, they chose to remove my son from the program. I removed my original review and am posting this updated one because parents deserve to know the truth. It is beyond unacceptable that any form of abuse is tolerated in a daycare setting. And instead of making things right, they also kept my full week's payment without issuing a refund -- which is nothing short of theft. As a Black mother and an educated woman, I will not be silenced, intimidated, or "talked down" to with empty words. If necessary, I will take legal action. Parents need to understand what kind of environment this is, and I cannot in good conscience recommend this daycare to anyone. Thankfully, by the grace of God, I have since found a 24-hour daycare in the area with fair rates, professional staff, and a nurturing atmosphere where both children and parents are treated with genuine respect. Bottom line: Grayson Academy is not the safe, trustworthy place they claim to be. Parents, please be cautious

They know every child by name and greet each and every one individually when they arrive in the morning and when they are picked up in the evening. They are consummate professionals and consistently communicate any changes or updates with the parents. They effortlessly maintain full control of their managerial tasks while making time to check in with (and support) the teachers and teacher's assistants. Both Ms. Tammie and Ms. Lindsey go out of their way to ensure the children have fun while learning during their time at the center. They also bring in extra activities the children can engage in to nurture their creativity. I am constantly in awe of their patience as I have never seen them get flustered even with dealing with the rush of morning drop off, afternoon pick up and many children engaged in different activities. I have also witnessed them step in, when a staff member is out, to pick up the slack and make breakfast or snack for the children. They always ensure the children do not have any disruptions to their daily routines. Both Ms. Lindsey and Ms. Tammie have organized seasonal events for the children and parents that they attend outside of work hours and it is another opportunity for us (parents) to engage with them. My review is a testament to the wonderful experience I have had at Rosebud and I know it is because of their dedication to the children. When trying to find a center for my child, it was Ms. Tammie and Ms. Lindsey who solidified my decision to enroll at Rosebud! I am grateful for them and recommend anyone who is searching for childcare go to Rosebud and ask for Ms. Tammie or Ms. Lindsey.

I can now honestly recommend them to anyone in the Grayson area looking for a preschool for their children.

In June 2024 I had an information session at this school. I decided that I wanted my son to go to…read morethis school. They actually had quite a few bad reviews, compared to the other Montessori schools in my area, but most of them were for kids in the older grades and my son is only 2 and I really liked the teacher he was going to have, so I decided I would still give them a try. On June 28th I took my son to the teacher/child meeting so my son could meet his teacher. In early July I paid my registration fee and thought I was registered. A week before school was set to start and 45 minutes before my orientation, they called me and told me they were denying my application because I wasn't committing my son to go to school there through elementary school. I've been to the school twice and have spoken to them on the phone at least 3 times and never once did they say you have to commit your 2 year old through elementary school! it's obvious they had another kid that they just wanted to put in my sons spot, which is fine, it's their school, but to do it a week before school starts was so unprofessional. ALL the other Montessori schools in my area are full now. How can you say you care about kids, but not treat them all with the same respect? They didn't care about the fact that my child doesn't have a school to go to now. I'm not sure if it was a money issue or race (I'm black), but my child definitely got push aside for another child and they way they did it was cruel and unwarranted. On top of all that, the Administration Director had the nerve to get annoyed when I wanted to know exactly when I would be getting my application refund. I would not recommend this school.

DO NOT enroll your minority children at HOMS--your kids' mental health is far more important than…read moreany Montessori curriculum. The severity of the prejudice, retaliation, and negligence toward my family does not capture the levity displayed by HOMS regarding the incidents BOTH my black sons of Egyptian and Jamaican descent experienced. -------------------------- Incident #1: My kids were placed in a vehicle during pick-up and not one single person thought to ensure the safety of my kids by verifying the actual adult. When I brought this issue to their attention, I received excuses to justify how busy carpool can be especially as they iron out challenges in the beginning of the school year. Incident #2: My 2-year-old's dread loc was completely "combed out." The school assured me there were no combs in the classroom so technically his hair wasn't "combed out." His hairstyle represents our connection to Africa, pride in our blackness, and a spiritual connection to God. When I brought the removal of his loc to their attention, it was explained that the staffer was ensuring his comfort for naptime by removing the sand trapped in his loc'd hair. I received an excuse by the lead teacher that she had no idea what his hair was. Incident #3: My family's nanny had been accused of spanking my eldest in the parking lot of the school (and no, there are no cameras or video to support this allegation). This accusation was made by a 1st grader, whose mum initially stated she witnessed said spanking too. I incessantly questioned the mum through the Assistant Principal Colleen Crewey as this is a serious allegation. Colleen, on the other hand, was bothered by my need for data points on this fireable offense. Anna then began engaging with me taking questions to the mum that witnessed this spanking. Again, HOMS showed no concern for the welfare of my children when I asked questions. Instead, my questions were deemed too much by these women. The mum later admitted she had not seen anything as she was focused on driving. I was given a reminder of what is not allowed on the school's premises. Incident #4: On January 6th, 2022, BOTH of my children were "released" from their contracts with HOMS. On December 15th, 2021 my eldest had been bullied then jumped by students (boy-girl twins) in his class. When he successfully defended himself against the twins, he was described as impulsive & aggressive. I was mandated to create an action plan for my eldest son's teachers. I was told that part of my action plan needed to include him seeking medical attention to address his impulsivity and aggression. I spent my winter vacation chasing these mandates. Once submitted on January 6th, there was no discussion. Instead, my efforts and concern for my son were dismissed by HOMS. Both boys were released from contracts with HOMS. If this decision was intended to be a consequence for my eldest, then why was my youngest son released too? -------------------------- Furthermore, if HOMS is "dedicated to providing a safe and healthy environment while nurturing a child's natural desire to learn, to teach valuable skills, and to instill the love of learning that will last for a lifetime," why did staff allow my eldest son to be targeted and bullied by other children? Why did he fear going to school? Where was the nurturing? What valuable skill was taught by "releasing" my children? Where was the love of learning [about different hairstyles] when my son's loc was being combed out? However, what does last a lifetime is the prejudice, retaliation, and negligence inflicted upon my family by Harbor Oaks Montessori School. I, like many other parents, want a safe learning environment for my children. I am even more cautious and cannot trust that my black sons will not be judged by the color of their skin by a school that encourages this type of behavior. I am also concerned for the children left behind and under the leadership of these 2 sisters. I KNOW my sons are not the first to experience this, and I am afraid they will not be the last.

Primrose School at Sugarloaf Parkway-East

Primrose School at Sugarloaf Parkway-East

My review is LONG but WORTH the read I promise!…read more I've had the opportunity of my son attending Primrose since he was about 2 1/2 years old and during the peak of the pandemic. Like everyone during those uncertain times, I had to make the decision of transitioning him from our in home nanny to school so he would not fall behind with his social skills. We had come from a "placeholder" school and it was time to find him a school home. From my first interaction and tour with the school, Ms. Yang told me everything about the program. I loved how thorough their policies and procedures were. The school appeared to be large, clean, fresh and new! The staff wore masks and required you to wear them when entering the building as well while I was on my tour so ultimately making the decision came a bit easier. As with most parents - you value the safety of your child. So many horror stories online and on the news about kids being mistreated by trusted staff. So I want to point out something that will be very reassuring - Tanisha and her wonderful administrative team take pride in caring for each child as if they were their own! You will get to know each and every one of them and learn the "culture" of your Primrose school. Even with my picky preferences with classrooms and teachers (LOL) they were always able to accommodate me or meet me in the middle. I did notice some reviews were unfavorable... One of the 1 star reviews was a parent I hadn't seen in a while. As parents, we like to think of our children as angles but most times it's not always the case! In her case, I must say her child was one of those children! And I love that Primrose has a standard and sticks to it! As for the mentioning of them not being equipped to handle Kids with disabilities, I dont think this is a fair judgement. So many children today have them. I'm an advocate for free help offered by the state and insurance and so many parents out of laziness most times refuse to get it! This leaves parents like myself who don't have a child with behavioral problems or disabilities at a disadvantage! Along with the teachers and staff! It takes a village to raise a child and they most certainly do their best within their legal realm of monitoring to make sure all children are treated fairly. So understand with all education - it's a partnership! As long as you are aware of that going into ANY school - your outcome should always be favorable. Now the good stuff! For new parents searching here are some perks: Pre-k is private! They wear uniforms in pre-k! (Loved this look for the kiddos) Breakfast is provided for a small weekly fee Lunch is provided and is included in tuition They offer weekly tuition options! Their curriculum is wonderful! Their sign in/sign out and app are so seamless and user friendly! they have parent/teacher meetings etc! They have an open door policy and the owner is hands on! Now the cons which weren't many; Location - The traffic to get to this location took me about 90 mins a day for 2 round trips and I live less than 5 miles away. And it's pretty tough getting out of the schools parking lot onto the traffic... But my son's safety was the uttermost important so I made the sacrifice as long as I could! Personal values - Sometimes as families our personal, religious and moral values don't always align with companies and that's okay! So we made the tough decision to leave Primrose as we noticed this shift. Again - these are my personal pros and cons and they do not take away from the quality of the school which they most definitely earn their 5 star reviews! Any educator who dedicated their lives to care for children especially our precious little people deserves all kinds of awards! Please take time and try Primrose out for yourselves! They were good to me and my family and I would most likely return under the right circumstances (and relocation LOL)
