I want to write a review for Sunset Tavern as it will be moving from its current location (along with Deli Lane), where they have been for 35 years, to a new location in 2026, since the building it is occupying will be demolished. It is possible that the vibe of Sunset Tavern will not change much, but as we all know, it may never be the same. Sunset Tavern is one of those few places where it is just as good to go in the morning for a Bloody Mary and enjoying the scenery of South Miami, as it is to go at night, drink a beer and watch a live band perform. The ambiance is casual, the service is up to the challenge, and the price is reasonable. As the matter of, I went to Sunset Tavern last night. The name of the band playing was Electric Mayhem and they were absolutely outstanding. The energy and the chemistry between the band members, the song selection, and the talent of the musicians was off the chat. I have never been so mesmerized by a local band before, and I plan to go back and see them again. They perform in Sunset Tavern the first Saturday of every month. But as I was watching the band, I took a look around. So many memories within those walls. I will miss this location. read more

Sunset Tavern has been a staple in South Miami/Sunset place area for many years! Recently I headed there with some coworkers for a happy hour and we had a great time! I have also been there later at night to see sports events and the place gets packed with sports enthusiasts! It's always a good time! They also have live music which in my experience has been amazing! I'm happy o visited recently because it had been a while and to be honest, I can't wait to go back and enjoy more of their food options! I tried their French onion soup and it was perfect! The mild-mannered weekend-brunch fixture of South Miami, Deli Lane, takes out its drink glasses and becomes the Sunset Tavern. The food is pretty much the same (well, there are variations between breakfast and dinner, but most of the menu you can order regardless of the time, with some exceptions), and the servers are pretty much the same, only that by night they have live bands with music and a different crowd... and, obviously, you can drink the drinks you wanted to drink in the morning but were too embarrassed to order because not everyone lived by the "it's five o'clock somewhere" motto. Actually, I'm lying: you can do everything both in the morning and the evening and you'll still enjoy the moment. The menu is the typical sports bar fare, I've tried the burrito (which is huge), and I think it was pretty good. They are pretty accommodating for large groups. It is a bit of a drag to have to go order at the counter and then wait at the table to be served, and they are for sure not among the fastest in the business, but so far they have never disappointed. My only real complaint is that sometimes I feel they chose the live bandas by purposefully picking the worst one... Last Saturday, following the members of a band formerly known as Exit Left, whom have joined another band called Spektora, we went to Sunset Tavern. First off, Spektora was very good and brought the house down. They played lively and upbeat music the entire night that had the whole tavern dancing and singing along. I still miss Exit Left though . Sunset Tavern is always one of my favorite places to go to. They have a large outdoor area where you can sit back and chat with your friends, or just watch the pedestrians walk by. They have a large bar on the right with a few TV screens and a pool table on the left, but the vibe of this place, which is what I like most about this place, is so much more than just another sports bar. On the weekends, this place comes to life, especially when they have a live band. The service is good and the place is clean. If you want food, you have to order it from next door, but they will bring it to your table. Overall, if you are in south Miami, and you are looking for a place to hang out, Sunset Tavern is the place to be. read more

About 70% of the time there is no parking available. I have had to leave without going in on more than one occasion due lack of parking. Tonight there was parking but all the spots had cones preventing access, even the handicapped parking, no attendant, no sign, no explanation. We had a handicapped person in our party so this was inconvenient. Once inside the only available table had dirty glasses from the previous party and the people playing pool were using it to set their drinks on because nobody was clearing the table. There were only two servers for the inside and entire outside. It was cold outside but we were there for the music, but after an hour with no menu and no offer to take care of us and the only inside table now completely unoccupied but still uncleared we left without ordering a thing. Between the parking fiasco and complete lack of service I am revising my previous rating of this business to not worth it I blame management for the ridiculous parking issue and lack of available staff however we must have been invisible because they kept walking past us but never greeted us or even ask to take a drink order. The most embarrassing moment in my life at sunset tavern. I have been going there for 20 years. My wife was humiliated not only when I was not there but after I arrived on our way out the door. These 2 bar maids/managers had it out for her for some reason from the start. Humiliated her while she was alone and when we were done eating we went to the car to get a business card for a fellow patron and they ran outside claiming we were stealing their wine glass. I tried to explain but their predisposed notions were in place and then they embarrassed my wife in front of me. It took all my restraint and efforts not to smash their $0.10 wine glass off the cement. Really?? Horrible Service and manager who could care less about training their staff on customer service. We came here on a Saturday night as they had block the street and a live band called TILT was playing. The ordering food/drinks set up is confusing. You order your food and drinks a counter inside Deli Lane and then get a number for the waitress to bring you your items. We ask the waitress if we could order more drinks for her and she was admin about going inside to order at the counter. She was rude and apologetic. Meanwhile we saw another waitress take an order of shots from a college group. At this point we are annoyed that no one would help us to order more food and drinks. We then ask to speak to the manager and she pacified us. The waitress then was all of a sudden available when we ask for the check as she wanted a tip. A friend was telling me about the awesome happy hour deals here so I decided to check it out for myself! When I got there, it was pretty packed but I was still able to find a table immediately. The deal is that drinks are half off. Just an FYI, they no longer offer $1 appetizers! That was one of the reasons that brought me to Sunset Tavern but it's ok still enjoyed the drink specials. Along with half off drinks, they also have deals of the day. The drink deal was Moscow Mules for $6. Ended up loving the Moscow Mule as places do make them differently and can vary in taste. Decided to try the NY Steak which was also the deal of the day for $25. Comes with two sides, and was decent for the price, just wouldn't recommend the cole slaw as it was pretty dry. We did have a little problem communicating with our waitress. She would ask if we wanted another round of drinks (no problem with that) but when we asked to hold off for a second, she wasn't understanding why. Made us feel pressured to order another round. So if the weather is nice outside, you have that as an option if you'd like that or you can eat in the cafe indoors. There's also a darker "tavern" area that its merged with where I usually like it eat. It's not a cheap place, for an eggs Benedict on English muffins, with bacon, and a side (I got cheese grits) it was about $15. You're pretty much in the gables area so I wouldn't advise going here if you're on a tighter budget. Between three of us, each with a drink, it was just over $60. Overall rating: 5/5 This dive bar is located right next to the popular sunset place breakfast/brunch hot spot, Deli Lane. Upon walking in my girlfriend and I were told to take whichever seat we wanted. The waiter came promptly and handed us the menus from Deli Lane. The food wasn't extraordinary but it is better than most bars. The reason being is the food is coming from next door. We ordered and shared the hummus appetizer which was good. My girlfriend got the chicken wrap which she liked and I got the deli deluxe burger which was tasty. There was a band that started playing as the night went on. This is a local pub in the South Miami / Sunset place area perfect for a night out with some friends to listen to live music, watch a game, or for playing a game of pool. You can either find street parking or garage parking that is within walking distance (usually PayByPhone). We got here around 7:30-8:00pm on a Saturday night and had no issues with being seated as the place was not packed just yet. Service was good, attentive, and food as well as drinks came out in a timely manner. We ordered the hummus that came with celery, carrots, and pita bread. For my entree I ordered the chicken finger wrap. Overall, the food was just okay, nothing out of this world, just typical bar food. My boyfriend ordered a burger which he seemed to have really liked, I wish I could say more about it, however, the food was not a highlight. After dinner we had a few more drinks before heading over to play a game of pool. There's a white board to write your name down to play in case there's a wait. There was also a live band that began to play while we were there which was nice to enjoy. This is a great bar to come out for a night with friends, relax, and unwind. Update to my previous review. No matter when I go to this particular establishment ,I no longer get the family, comfortable, homey, vibes I used to. All I get now are unhappy faces with bad attitudes As well as employees who don't listen to their customers. A customer who has ALWAYS treated and tipped them well.... Sean and Zoey have gotten what I call to be "too big for their britches". They think treating customers like crap is a good thing to do.... not! I've always supported this business, even through Covid, and everything else it's been through and to continuously (not just one time) continuously be treated as badly as I do here, I might as well take my hard earned money and go elsewhere. I'd also like to point out that they charged me both 10 and $12 for a small plastic cup full of cranberry basically. It's definitely the "dive bar" of Sunset but with that welcoming dark wooden bar and its attractive drink specials, this spot surely warrants a visit for a nightcap or a happy hour sesh. It's cheap so naturally that attracts a crowd. If you're hungry you can order from Deli Lane next door and they certainly cook up a mean sandwich if ya know what I mean. Since they're open late, it's the perfect spot to mellow out with your crew over $6 Moscow Mules. In SoMi, the meter maid is very alive so I certainly recommend being on top of your meter because they're quick to issue tickets. We went there last night to celebrate the birthday of a friend. This place was absolutely horrible Hells kitchen should make an episode of this place and get the highest ratings It ever had... The service was horrible Gandhi would've strangled the waitress ... The nachos were naked they had nothing on them they look like they had been in bin Laden's cave for two months... The beers were hot which already is a capital punishment.. We had to go find a waitress several times... The food was mediocre at best.. This venue has an extremely relaxed and laid back environment with the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors that really can't be found in many restaurants/bars in Miami unless you are spending more than $30 a plate/drink. I often see the manager overlooking all the tables and the severs are very adamant about their service. Everyone is always attentive and it really adds to the cozy environment here on top of the fact that happy hour here allows room for even the lowest of budgets. We came here on a Saturday night because we wanted to food and live music without having to drive to Fort Lauderdale or pay a cover charge elsewhere. I've been here twice already. The live band is the reason to come. It's great to have some drinks and hang out. The drinks were good, not too pricey. We ordered the cheese and chicken nachos and they were cold and barely had cheese. Chicken wasn't very flavorful. We had to send it back so they can heat it up. Then I ordered a philly and it was just not bad. Nothing out of this world. Fries were pretty good. For dessert we wanted to give the cookie a try. It was huge and was hot. But that was it. Didn't taste very much. And as we ate it, the cookie was getting harder and the texture chewy- what happens when something is microwaved!!! How ridiculous. I'm expecting a fresh baked cookie, or at least a cookie made that day and if anything, heated up carefully in an oven. But no, they microwaved it... The last time I wanted to give the pizza a try. Well, that was a bad idea. It was basically cardboard with some cheese and canned sauce on top. No flavor. Crust was soft and had some soggy areas. Tasted like a lunchables pizza heated up. Never again. Service is okay. I always ask for recommendations and twice already the servers were very dry and dull and didn't really offer too much help. When I asked which pizza was better, the flatbread or regular, he's like "well just depends if you want a thinner or thicker crust..." Great, super helpful! I guess he knows they're both basic and flavorless so it really did come down to crust thickness, not flavor or anything else. Will I be back? Well, I'd come back to have a place to go with live music and drinks to hang with friends, and maybe give another menu item a chance. But other than that, there's no way. Came here for their first ever Beer Tasting Event last Thursday. The event, overall, I enjoyed. They explained all the beers and where they were from and the history of the breweries. They had giveaways and trivia questions. Very fun. The food: not so great. We (the bf and I) ordered the potato skins. OMG! The worst potato skins ever! We also sampled their buffalo wings and barbecue wings. Buffalo wings were TOO salty and not good at all. The barbecue wings were better but not great. The chicken panini and fries were good. Ok. The chicken panini was VERY good and the fries were ok. Made me wish we had gone to The Irish Times for food. The service: good. I mean they were VERY attentive. However, I asked for a beer, Brooklyn Lager, which I mistook for another beer I liked in the tasting. So, I asked our waitress if she could please exchange it (partnered with a million apologies. I never want to piss off a waiter/tress). She then proceeded to give me major attitude for the remainder of our stay. The other two waiters we had, which had to fetch her plenty of times, were MUCH better. So, good for drinks. Especially for their tasting events. Not good for food. And ok service.
