I was visiting some family and had some time to check out a winery. Luckily this one was open on Sunday before I had to go home. Plus kids are allowed. Easy to find, they have a big parking lot. Upstairs is the tasting room. Wall full of wine bottles behind the bar. We ordered a wine flight to sample and charcuterie spread. Order at the bar and pay, they will pour the wine and give you the charcuterie spread. Just choose a table to sit. This is more self service. We used to really enjoy going to Sunset Point Wineryfor trivia every month. We would organize a group and spend a fair amount on drinks every time. Tonight we had a group of six and, since all the tables are square, we had to push some together to accommodate everyone. If you've ever been there, you know there's that weird corner with all the swinging chairs suspended from the ceiling they also try to sell. This was the only space large enough to accommodate both tables. We pushed aside some of the canvas swing seats (that weren't being used) and set up our table. We registered our trivia team and ordered some drinks. One of the staff came over and scolded us for... reasons? They wanted to leave those suspended swinging chairs open for potential customers I guess. But I rarely if ever see people using them and told the worker as much. She asked if we could at least move the tables up against a wall, which we did. Bit of a weird start to the night but, whatever. So... half way through the second round of trivia, this same employee asked the trivia master (who's a great guy) to come over and tell us we've been disqualified by the bar. Even though we did what they asked us to do. We quietly and politely put everything back and closed out our tabs. I asked what the deal was. The employee told us it wasn't their decision, that their manager made the decision. I asked to talk to that manager. Apparently they weren't available. I said I would wait until they were available. Apparently they weren't there at all? I asked how they were able to disqualify us if they weren't even there. The employee said they posted a picture to social media and the manager saw it online and wanted us disqualified. I checked. There were no pictures. I have a sneaking suspicion the person we were talking to was, in fact, the person booting us but they were too scared to say as much despite us being civil. Especially since she didn't even come over to tell us herself and made the poor sweet trivia master tell us. Just a bizarre situation. This is like our one time a month we get out of the house without our son. Another couple in our group were having their first night out together while their toddler son was staying overnight with family. We would drop a decent amount of cash there too. I'm really bummed to lose a fun tradition but I'm absolutely never spending another dime there again and neither is the rest of our group. I hope they get enough hypothetical customers who want to sit in those swinging chairs to make up for our lost revenue. read more

The tasting room is a big space and well decorated with lots of fun wine accessories and gifts to purchase. The two women working were so kind and pleasant. It was a great experience in terms of those things. No one tasted at the bar area due to covid and instead all at tables spread out. So there's all the good stuff! I can't say I loved many of their wines. Now granted I'm a bit of a wine snob having lived near Napa and Sonoma for many years...and I've learned that WI wines rarely do it for me. I truly did love the white Blazin' Brianna however. Easy drinker and probably fantastic for summer picnics and some cheese and fruit. Back to the wine snob thing - I didn't love tasting wine in little plastic cups. It may have been a covid thing. But I just prefer my wine in glass so this gave it a cheaper feel. It was a nice touch they included a little chocolate with the dessert wine sample. Good ambience and great place to hang, I just probably wouldn't return because my preference always pulls me back to Cali wines. :) read more

We had been in a car for roughly FOREVER (or, more accurately, 9.5 hours). We were weary of sitting and eating road trip junk food. And we had recently discovered that the iPhones in the car would no longer gain a battery charge from the car chargers (f@#king Apple....) We were tired. We were cranky. We were running low on battery and GPS capability. I loudly exclaimed that gol-dangit, I was going to stop at the next winery I saw a sign for! In no time, we saw a sign for Sunset Point Winery. We pulled it up on our GPS, jumped off the highway, and chased that horizon until we pulled up to the winery. It is just up the road from Point Brewery, and we were lucky enough to find some A+ prime parking just outside. Inside, the tasting room is upstairs. You are welcomed by tall, timbered ceilings and an inviting, comfortable atmosphere. We sidled up to the bar for a tasting, while also looking around for some outlets to charge up our phones (we were all running dangerously low on e-battery power!) We only saw two outlets for the three of us, so Dan behind the bar offered to let me charge mine behind the bar. Thank you Dan! On to the tasting! For $5 you get to choose six wines to taste. There are a few that are available in the tasting room only, and you can't get a bottle to go. So be aware, if you end up liking those, the most you can probably get is a glassful in-house. They have a couple dry options, but sweets rule the day here! I really enjoyed the wines I sampled. I prefer sweet, and they have some wonderful fruity and sweet options. I bought a couple bottles to bring back with me, as well as getting a glass of the Red Dwarf to enjoy while we got a few more minutes of phone charge in order to make the rest of our journey for the day! Overall, we greatly enjoyed our visit and were incredibly pleased with the service provided by our wine host, Dan! I would highly recommend anyone who likes wine make a stop here if you are in the area! read more

It's a cute little local downtown winery with reasonably priced wine and laid-back vibes. Imo the wine and service aren't anything super special, but certainly worth checking out if you're in the area. It's a good place to grab a glass of wine with a friend, and people-watch out the windows as you swing in one of the swinging chairs. read more

Last summer 2018 a bunch of us went here for the wine tasting and tour. My niece and I bought a bunch of wine. 2 of my bottles of plum wine exploded in my brand new cabinets leaving a mess. My niece had one bottle of plum wine that also exploded. When i called to complain they sent a gift certificate for the exact price of the 3 bottles of wine. We live in the Chicago suburbs. I finally got a chance to get back out here to cash in my loss. I certainly hate to give them any business after the mess they caused but what choice do I have. They were probably hoping most people didn't cash in on it. So when I went there to buy 3 bottles, (not plum) I had to pay an additional $1.05. Seriously? I will never be back. When I entertain at my summer home, I will make sure everyone knows about it. I wonder if the FDA should know or if anyone got sick from drinking what didn't explode. read more

I loved this place! But my love for it was problematic. On a drive to upper WI, we stopped here as a place to stretch our legs, get out of the car, and really for one of us to charge their phone. When we got there, there was only one other couple finishing up their tasting (it was an early Friday afternoon, not peak wine tasting time), midway through our tasting a few other small groups came in. Dan, the gentleman working jumped between all of us wonderfully. Here is where it got problematic. Sunset point is a fairly new winery and some of the wines on their tasting list are just for tasting, or for glasses on site. They did not have any bottles for purchase. And guess what ones were my FAVORITE?! THE ONES I COULD NOT TAKE WITH ME! But really, all their wines were really good. They had nerdy, space-based names. I 100% recommend a stop here to anyone and everyone. read more

In their defense we came at a bad time...entered as a baby shower was winding down. Totes were blocking the doorway, greeted with glares from the party. Suggestion for future is to have parties be mindful of the public if the winery is in fact open to public. We were greeted as we walked up to bar by a knowledgable young lady. My father made a comment that it would be nice if the bottles were on display. The cab was good and full bodied as promised. We went for the wine but were soured by the atmosphere.
