Flies, flies, and more flies. We were called by the front desk because guest in next room thought someone was hitting the wall with a hammer. When my husband said he was swatting a large number of flies (25+) he replied, "oh, can you swat them quieter?" If this is such a problem, why haven't they installed screens? This room is very basic, but that borders ridiculous. What good is a beachfront room, if you cant open a door or window to hear it? We have a spectacular view, but so disappointed we cant enjoy it, because we are still killing flies. NEVER have we encountered this, and we stay in beachfront hotels frequently. This hotel claims high reviews on trip advisor. That may be true if you are lucky enough to stay in one of their newly renovated rooms. The entire two story building my wife and I stayed in was deplorable. We were accompanied by another couple who also rented a room there. They also felt the same. Our room literally stunk. There was a slider which was the only entry to the room. No screens on the slider. The carpet and spreads were filthy. The paint and wood finish was peeling off the wall. The TV was a 12" TV. What a joke. Since we had a 12 lb dog and our friends had a medium sized terrier and we were traveling along the Oregon coast and it was late afternoon, we had no time to find another pet friendly hotel. I've stayed in much cleaner rooms in Baja MX for $35 vs staying at this dump for $117. This was the worst room I've ever stayed in. A complete ripoff. read more

We stayed at the sunset it was a great stay till we went to get the continental breakfast..there was a older lady there ... My husband asked her a question about making a waffle..she was really rude and told him if people would read directions she would not have to stay out there helping people it is ridiculous...the guy behind my husband said wow she was rude and gave you a talking to they should not have happened...if she does not like her job maybe she should find a new one read more

Great experience here! The staff was friendly, very informative, and extremely helpful throughout our stay. We had only planed to stay there for a night but we saw how beautiful this place was and how much there was to do, that we decided to stay another night. The second night we were moved into the ocean front rooms which are steps away from the ocean! Such a beautiful property. The beach is beautiful and it stretches out for miles! Highly recommended place. The only problem I would say we had was that the free breakfast was far from good. They lacked the food which said would be provided, and barely had much food to options to offer. That's the reason for not giving 5 stars. I love everything thing about this hotel except for the flooring. The view of the ocean is spectacular, the service is warm and friendly. But I like my feet to be on carpet in the morning. We have stayed here several times and will again. But it's not my first choice for the area. read more

The Hotel was clean but the staff had horrible customer service. The owner even told us that she would make the waffle because she didn't want me to break the waffle maker. How rude, I hadn't even touched it yet. Lastly the room was very small and it was more comfortable to sleep on the floor than on the bed. read more

We reserved two rooms for two days for my mom's birthday. The rooms were noisy from 4am on, and smelled like wet dogs. There was no "ocean view" even though both rooms were advertised as such. They knew I have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and needed sleep, and my mother who has cancer stayed in the other room, I informed them of our situation when I made the reservations. My bill came to $560.00 to GET NO SLEEP in a room that smelled of dog. My mother, my husband, and I also dinned at the restaurant "Lord Bennett's" that bill came to $150.00 for 3 people including the tip. I don't mine the price I have a home in Napa Valley, but the food was not at all up to par. That wasn't bad enough, when I went to pay my bill, I complained to the girl at the desk about the herd of baby elephants tromping above our rooms from 4am on, and to my surprise she said nothing close to an apology, instead (now get this) she gave us a 10% DISCOUNT for the next time we stay there! HECK NO, I'm never staying there again, so the SMALL 10% "discount" card is in our garbage can and will never see the light of day again! read more

Stayed in the Vern Brown addition. Million dollar view of the beach off the balcony attached to a very tired Motel 6 room. Beds hard, pillows harder, bathroom faucets in need of aerator attachments (water splashes all over), some pull faucets very difficult to operate (had to use both hands to yank it on), fluorescent lights in bathroom work half the time,tiny TV's...this addition was built in '88 and the interiors look like they haven't been touched since. Paid $171 inclusive at high season for the view. While there, checked out the Bandon Inn, which has much newer room interiors and a great view of the harbor, lighthouse and Old Town. Will stay there next year. But the most annoying feature in the Vern Brown room is the weird flourescent light fixture at the head of the beds (no headboard). This handyman special is an inverted flowerbox shape that is attached to the wall just three feet or so above the bed and as wide as the bed, making it impossible to sit up in bed to read or watch TV. This hotel has the potential to be the best in Bandon but it appears that the only room that has been updated is the lobby. read more

We made reservations for sunset oceanfront lodging in Bandan Oregon with very little lead time. We did not get one of the best rooms, instead we had a simple double room that was across the street from the beach. It was clean yet rustic, a bit damp and musty. It smelled like A wet dog. I strongly suggest they separate rooms that are pet friendly from those that are not, as our allergies were in high pitch. We were only there one night so I really can't complain I bet that the rooms overlooking the beach or even more pleasant as you watch the sunset from your room. We liked it well enough and we would stay here again yet it is not a fancy place at all. The breakfast consisted mostly of carbohydrates and free fruit drinks. I wish they had eggs or fresh fruit. read more

We stayed in the Vern Brown Addition, right above the beach. We paid $171.00 on a Tuesday summer night for two queens and a kitchenette. If you want a bed, a shower and a fantastic view just steps from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, then it's worth it. Otherwise, there is nothing special about the hotel. We didn't watch the tiny TV, the beds were fine, all appliances worked, the shower was great. Fairly easy load in and load out. Be sure and ask for a late check out while checking in. read more

NIce motel across from a gorgeous beach. The stairs down to the beach were a bit rickety - not dangerous, but obviously in need of some repair. We stayed in the upper motel - room 193. Had a lovely view from our balcony. I thought the prices were a bit high, $165 - but the room was massive with a lovely fireplace, a loveseat and a chair. I would have liked the bed closer to the fireplace, but it was fine as it was. Breakfast was good - waffles, yogurt, cold cereal, bagels. No sweet rolls or syrup - only honey - and the butter was hidden away in a refigerator which we found later. The cons: carpet felt like indoor/outdoor, but it was clean - and very green (not my favorite color). Microwave oven was in an awkward place in the sink area. And the closet was open to the sink and counter which was a bit odd. Small table against one wall, but no chair to sit in. Free wifi. read more

The old units are old and musty. We upgraded to the newer (20 years old units) and were very happy. The view, quite simply is THE BEST in Bandon...and perhaps anywhere. No other hotel has this oceanfront view overlooking Face Rock and the nightly sunsets. It cannot be beat! read more

Ehh not the best, not the worst we booked the economy room and it was definitely economy. The bed was so worn you could feel springs, the staff was nice enough the gentleman at night was way friendlier than the gal during the morning. Breakfast is muffins, juice and yogurt which is fine. The view is great and it appears they are doing construction so probably doing the much needed renovations. Some paint and deep cleaning could really upgrade the place. for now I would say if you just are sleeping a night it may be ok, but nothing extended unless you book the new part for 3x the price. read more

I thought this place was fantastic! Ocean view, large room with a jetted tub and comfy bed.....oh and again....the view!! I think we managed to luck out on which room we got (our friends room was a bit smaller) but still you cant beat the view. We didnt have time to checkout the pool or hot tub but they looked nice. The lady that checked us in at the front desk was incredibly nice. We showed up early and she checked us in with no problem at all, gave us map of the area and suggestions on where to go. The only thing that could use improvement is the breakfast.....yogurt, muffins, jusice and coffee. They were all good, just not very filling. read more

We actually spent a lot for a one night in a motel room but we did pay it to have a newer, disabled friendly room with a balcony over looking the ocean and access to the beach. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. If it wasn't so pricey we would love to stay longer to really enjoy the area more on a longer vacation. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. For the price they really should offer a better breakfast for their guests and maybe some type of discount coupons to local restaurants to help their guests save money since their guests are paying big money for the rooms. read more

We stayed in Rm 196. We thought we had an excellent value. Only the breakfast was a disappointment.

I stayed in one of the original rooms across the street from the beach. It is indeed decorated like a 60's ship's cabin, but I do think it had character, and the effect was very pleasant. We paid $70 for the room, which had absolutely everything it needed to be comfortable. Last fall we stayed in one of the newer rooms located on the side of a cliff, with a fireplace and kitchenette. Much pricier. Sure, you're right next to the beach, but the cheaper, rustic rooms across the street suited us just fine. read more

Rustic and charming! Awesome views of the incredible beach from our deck and had a fantastic visit. Yes, there may be a few minor 'maintenance issues' but that is to be expected with the salt air and moist climate. The staff is friendly and helpful and the service was good. Plenty of soft towels, the ice machine always stocked, and right across the street from a nice restaurant. I recommend the rustic cabin 410 for the best family beach experience. read more

DON'T GO HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE TONS OF $ TO WASTE! I went here because it looked okay and reasonably priced, plus they took dogs. My goal was to spend under $100 for a night including the dog fee. I paid $85 for this place. At that price I was put in their "original hotel" as opposed to the new rooms they built up the street. The place was empty which should have been a clue. The room smelled the paint was coming off, the glass was fogged in the middle some how so it couldn't be wiped off. I asked for my money back which they did and went and paid $98 down the street at the Bandon Beach Motel. I would recommend them instead! read more

This facility has a variety of rooms/styles/views. Bandon doesn't have a lot of motels that have a view, so the choice is limited. This is the second time I have stayed here. The lodging has an indoor pool and hot tube. This last visit I got a room that was located in the oldest part of the facility, and I had a wonderful view of the ocean off the deck of my room. If you go to their web page you will be able to see the lay out of the rooms and some pictures. The one thing that might be hard for some people is the set of stairs that you need to use to get to the beach. Note: I like Bandon so well that I drive five hours from Portland to get here. If you come, be sure to go to Simpson Reef and Shore Acres. read more

We returned to the Sunset after not being happy with it years ago. Our hope was that they might have made some improvements -- no such luck! The Vern Brown Addition was built in 1988 and doesn't seem to have been updated since. Though good sized, the rooms are drab and the furnishings are old. Brown bedspreads and faded framed prints -- please! Some beachy colors and furnishings would at least brighten the place up. Great location but not a fun or comfortable place to stay. I really don't do bad reviews but I feel really ripped off . Let me start with the staff , customer service . Very unfriendly they couldn't find our reservation and we're not helpful or customer conscientious. We had to go get proof that we reserved a room . It is not like the hotel was sold out . The room was decorated in a cold format. Furniture was placed in a non usable plan . No comfortable chairs to sit in hard wooden stools. No plugs for anything like phone computer, tablet We had to move furniture to find one . Bed was hard as a concrete slab my back ,neck , head and hips are killing me . They should pay my chiropractor bill . At least the friendly staff should give you the option of what kinda slab they are making you sleep on . About the bed the friendly staffs reply was it is NEW !!! for the record. New doesn't mean BETTER . Where the coffee pot is a nice shelf , to bad no plug in .You have to move the whole coffee pot to find a plug in .The area they want you to use is very small not even enough room for the coffee pot to fit in it . I ended up spilling coffee so I spend 20 minutes cleaning up coffee . Here is another problem I can't believe how cheap the hotel is one package of coffee no tea or etc . No worries if you slip and slide getting to the deck, to check out the view watch the plastic chairs . The sad part as you look out the railing is right at eye view to block the best part of the whole stay the view . We checked in around 5:30 pm left at 8:30 am . Pool area closes early and doesn't open till 9:00am after you walk at least a block, with a sore body from the NEW BED . We stayed in the Vern Brown addition. We will never stay again or recommend this hotel .The view is amazing you have to stand to look at it . To me it was not worth the money .You can see the view from the park at the end if the road . It is really sad most hotels want you to come back , relax and tell your friends. I don't see that they did anything to make you feel welcome or come back. I feel really ripped off if anything out of the trip, I got a $200 chiropractor bill and hotel bill. read more

I love this place! I have no idea what all the fuss is about, if you live near the ocean, and this place is as close as you can get for 150 miles in any direction, you get some water damage. We reserved a ocean front room and the idiot at the front desk gave us the key for a different room, which was ok until the person who reserved the room we were in walked right in on us. We went to the front desk to figure out the mix up and the person who scheduled our room got upgraded and we ended up being charged for 2 rooms. Great view and super close to Beach access. Affordable, clean, and pet friendly. They even gave us a blanket, towel, doggie poop bags, and a treat for the pup! Courteous staff and lots of amenities like snacks, beverages both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, local info, and a pool and jacuzzi. Would definitely recommend! read more

This place is the very definition of a valueless dump. The rooms were smelly and old and seemed like they had not been updated since the mid-1970s. It was truly an incongruous experience, as the views of the beach were great. For the price, it would have been a better value to sleep in the car by the ocean. If you do think of staying here, I would highly recommend that you be sure to first inspect the rooms to get your own view of the situation. This motel essentially takes advantage of high demand and a great location, and clearly does not reinvest any money into its premises, nor take any pride in providing value to guests. read more
