El personal siempre ha sido de primera, pero los detalles hacen la diferencia ,ahora te ofrecen fruta fría en el área de la piscina café helado ya las toallas están listas en los camastros , así como variedad de panes dulces a la hora del desayuno , en el restaurante llamado el Forno con un excelente horno leña, preparan unas pizzas bastante aceptables, mejoraron la decoración y el equipo de sonido. La calidad de la comida se mantiene a buen nivel, pero lo que más vale recalcar es el personal. Yo he tenido la oportunidad de estar en otros resort de la empresa Sunset y el personal humano que cuenta este establecimiento,es de primera ,hay que mencionar nombres como el señor que lleva por nombre de Mexico Gerente ,Abril que se encuentra en el restaurant La Pergola , Lluvia en la zona de piscina, y no puede faltar el equipo de Bellboy encabezados por señor Jose Luis y el señor Rodrigo ambos amables y atentos en todo momento. This was my first time at an all-inclusive, and Sunset Marina Resort was pretty solid. Service was amazing. I found a deal online after staying at a gross motel outside the hotel zone--this place was about the same price, which was a huge upgrade. The all-inclusive covered booze, restaurants, and room service. Food at the restaurants was good, but room service wasn't great. The burger was way too salty, and the pizza looked like it was straight out of a Lunchable. Yeah, I know, I ordered non-Mexican food in Mexico, but still. Resort wasn't busy at all, which was nice. Might've been the time of year, but there were only a few people around the pool at any time. Super chill. Best parts? The weekend breakfast buffet was solid, the room was huge with a hot tub inside, and the whole place was quiet and clean. Live music singer at night was a nice touch. Downsides: Shower took like five minutes to get warm - not kidding, 5 whole minutes to get hot water. Room service was meh, but can't complain too much when it's free. Just stick to breakfast or Mexican dishes, and you'll be fine. Overall, Sunset Marina gave me a good first all-inclusive experience. Would stay again! read more

My wife and I have done a bunch of all-inclusive resorts over the years. This place gets a solid four-star review, based on value and staff quality. Expectations are key with this place, as there are higher quality places, but you should examine your needs and decide what is important. Below is my pro-con list. Hope it helps. PROS: Staff: Hector was awesome behind the hotel lobby bar. Lluvia and Mexico were awesome at the pool bar. Carlos checked us in and was great. Luis took care of our bags. Mateo was busy for our Cilantro and Il Forno experiences, but was nice and efficient the entire time. Consuelo made me the best scrambled eggs and omelets each day. Leopoldo served drinks at each buffet breakfast and made our day's beginning awesome. Ada and Miguel were also awesome. -We loved our room. Great patio, spacious, and very comfortable bed. If you have stayed at the Venetian in Vegas, it reminded me of that. Sunken lower level, full kitchen, plenty of space. -The pool temp was perfect. -The hot tub was separated and had a great lagoon view. Ask someone to turn on the bubbles. -The water taxi to the sister resorts is the way to go. Don't do the bus. Ask to see the crocodiles and shipwrecks on the way. -Sunset Royal is the best sister resort. Best beach, hands down. Know that there is a level of all-inclusive that includes the sister resorts, and there is a green wristband that only is for this one. -Great sunset at this place. -The HC bathroom at the pool has AC and is a dream. Lobby bar bathroom is also excellent. -Cilantro is only open certain nights, but the breeze outside was great and the food was solid. -Although you are in a lagoon, there are two mini-beaches. You can't swim because crocodiles are out there, but that is why you take the water taxi to the sister resort. -We had good wind for our stay, which eliminated the bugs. -You can tip to get your hotel fridge reloaded, as with most similar places. -They had live music (sax player) in the lobby at night. He was welcoming when I wanted to sing with him. -I feel like the Dos Equis was less diluted than other resorts. -The white salsa at the buffet is the hottest, but the best. -No keys needed, as your wristband is the key. -You need to request the Hornitos upgrade, but they will give it to you. -Most of the staff spoke Spanish. I am on Duolingo and was ready, but I didn't really need it. -QR codes are at most of the restaurants. -The busy street the resort is by actually sounds like waves oddly. -Walk-in shower, always a plus. -The hot water takes a while to adjust in the shower, but at least they have hot water. -The Asian restaurant was fantastic, and the Mexican place was second. CONS: -Can't swim because of crocodiles. -6pm pool bar close, but that is pretty typical for these resorts. -You have to walk around the pool to go from the lobby to the left side of pool bar. There should be a walkway. -Shady people on the docks. -Not much within walking distance for supplies. -They had the sax player, but the stage outside was unused, and there was no karaoke. -I heard the concierge pushed the time share on you, but Ahmed was great and we never felt any pressure. -Aside from the omelet station or the beef station for lunch, the buffet was not very good. Expectations, folks. -The pizza was NOT good. I tried it twice, thinking I hit a bad night. If you like pizza, do not go there or get something else. If I had to do it again, I would have ordered one of the paninis. -Room service was slow. -I would ask people to change out your room when you leave for the day. The first day, we were gone from 830am-230pm, but no one came. -Not much drainage for the rain. -No place to grab snacks at all times. Overall, folks, this is a REALLY good value. Staff and value. As long as you aren't going into this expecting top level stuff, you will be happy. We found a deal, wanted to get away, and were happy with our trip. I recommend for value. I came here to use their pool and their docks. The scuba outfitters next door, Coconut Divers uses the Sunset Marina Resort as their launch pad to train new divers, and to launch the boat from their docks. The resort is located on the lagoon side of the island, so expect beautiful sunsets, but you can't swim in the lagoon water. The waters are awfully shallow, and we had to move the boat to deeper waters in order to load and launch it. The resort was kind enough to allow us to use their pool for scuba training. The pools are artistically decorated with blue tiles, and have interesting features so that the pool isn't just some hole in the ground, it's got bridges, panels, different curves and shapes. The water chemistry was just right. The staff was distant, they stayed out of our way, but smiled and said 'buenos dias' every time. The docks were a bit in disrepair, one part had completely collapsed into the lagoon. read more

I have... mixed feelings about this resort On the first day we arrived, I had to wait almost 10 minutes for hot water in the shower, and even then, it was more warm than hot. The second day, I ran the water for almost 15 minutes, then took my shower in the cold water, because the hot water never showed up. Hot water was intermittently available thereafter. In addition to that, the seal on the bottom of my shower door wasn't complete, so my bathroom floor turns into a puddle if I don't jam the bottom of the shower with a towel. The organization at the resort seems to be lacking in general - we tried to go to one of the buffets at the printed opening time, only to find that it was closed. When we asked the concierge why it isn't open, he just said "That's strange, it should be open." Turns out, the reason it was closed is because they were preparing for an outdoor dinner and show. The show was amazing, but the food was just okay. I would say the food in general is pretty poor quality. Several things we ate were lukewarm, both at La Pergola, the buffet, and Vela, the "upscale" Asian restaurant. The room service left me scratching my head. I ordered a pineapple pizza, and what they brought me was a pizza, made on a piece of pitta bread, with hotdogs on it...? I dont know if this is some kind of Mexican cultural thing, but it's definitely not what I ordered. Or even close. I like that staying here all-inclusive gives you access to activities at the other Sunset resorts, but I feel like if you're looking for a big time or luxury Cancun experience, this may not be the best choice. My wife and I have been owners pass 16yrs only time we didn't stay here because of the hurricane and it needed to be remolded in some areas. It's a relaxing atmosphere with everyone from the concierge, people who check you in at the counter, luggage person who will take your luggage to the room. The wait staff waiters and waitress who after the 1st day will have your morning drinks ready for you. Everyone is willing to help and make sure your stay at Sunset Marina will be an enjoyable one. Activity director's are awesome even when you don't feel like getting up exercising, just by the way they greet you and talk with you there's no way you can tell them no. Veronica Salazar our concierge made our stay a very memorable one along with Gonzalo and Marcelo our waiters, Raul, Roger, Ivan our bartenders, Abigail and Jennifer our hostess and our activities director's Ari and Amairani who did a tremendous job keeping us active not only doing our exercises in the morning but also playing games and other activities during the day. It was my brother, sister-in-law and our two nieces first time at our timeshare and seeing Cancun. We come every two years but the best thing is seeing familiar faces like our waiter Gonzalo who comes to me shakes my hand and says "Señor y senora Tejeda welcome back to your home away from home!" After two years this gentleman recognized my wife and me, this tells me he not only has a great memory but he respects us as we do him. We will be back in two years with same family we came with or someone else who would like to enjoy or rest and relaxation. Thank you the staff and everyone I mentioned hopefully you all will still be there when we return. PS what was also amazing Sergio from Sunset Royal was our concierge two years ago and when he was visiting Sunset Marina we saw each other, now I recognized him but didn't know from where and he too said "Señor Tejeda, how's your stay I was your concierge at Sunset Royal two years ago." B e s t S t a f f EVER !!! Our lagoon facing suite was perfect! What an evening view. One night we even saw a crocodile cruise past. We were here on the European Plan, not all inclusive. We were offered to upgrade, even for just 1 day. Just offered, not pressured, which was really nice. On our first night in Cancun we had a meal with guacamole (of course) , and that guac set the bar for the rest of the week long trip. We never had any that tasty anywhere else. YUM YUM ! Upon checking in, we were immediately served a fresh green non alcoholic drink. What a treat! The staff here has a real handle on customer service. Always smiling, always approachable, always pleasant, always working. Love it. Best hotel/resort staff I have ever experienced. Considering the age of this property, and the hot humid salty air, it is pretty well maintained. From morning to night there was a constant buzz of activity with on going maintenance, busy bees! My expectations were exceeded for the accommodations!! We were a family of 7 with a 2 bedroom, trilevel suite and IT WAS PERFECT!!! The jacuzzi on our balconies and 3 bathrooms was unexpected and very welcomed!! It was a low key, relaxed atmosphere for the variety of ages we had in our family (teenagers, parents and grandparents). There was one morning we ordered room service and it never arrived but we rolled with it and ate at the buffet. Another night parents allowed their young, elementary age daughters to swim naked in the pool and as soon as I reported it to security they took action and respectfully told the parents it was not allowed. I was disappointed with that cause the humidity was so dence. On an other note while the rooms are Clean,they are not Emaculent Clean. I checked the mattress on the 6th day, filthy!! Vause something bit My Son And Husband on there face, my husband got a very bad allergic reaction that we ended up at the ER latee on in the night we got back to the States. Located on the lagoon side, Sunset Marina is smaller and tends to be quiter but is connected via water tax or shuttle bus to the the other resorts. This way you can partake in other activities and change scenery as you wish. Pros: Beautiful hotel room! Loved the decor and the spaciousness of the suite as well as the Jacuzzi on the porch. The property itself was also very nice. The pool area next to the Lagoon was lovely and so were the pool chairs. Cons: The concierge service at the hotel was the worst concierge service I have ever dealt with. As a Wyndham owner, I have high standards for concierge service. The people there just are very clueless and do not have any information. On our first morning we wanted to go to the Isla Mujeres ferry and the Concierge service wanted to talk to us to get us to go to the timeshare presentation. We had advised them that our ferry was at 9 am and that we don't have a lot of time. They lied to us and told us the ferry leaves at 9:15 and then said that they would only take 10 minutes. They took close to 30 minutes and because of them we missed our ferry. When we arrived, we told them a specific restaurant we wanted to eat at (Chef Christian Morales) and they had no idea about the restaurant, but vowed to ensure we got a reservation. They did not follow up. The other piece that was really strange was that when I asked the Concierge about spa services they had no idea what services they provided or even have a price list. They replied to us saying that "it would be too much to keep track of." I would imagine a resort would WANT spa business. My family & I stayed here from Saturday, 4/15 to Saturday, 4/22. The staff was always great & friendly. Never had to a lift a finger. Had good food options (lunch was the most disappointing). We also paid for the all inclusive so unlimited buffet & room service. The pool's swim up bar was decent. We stayed in three different rooms both with limited outlets (so charging phones was a hassle. The 3rd room was better) & the majority of the cable channels were in Spanish or had subtitles & no DVD/Blu Ray player. Yes, we're here to take in the scene & do stuff in the city but sometimes I wanted to hangout in the room & relax & watch TV. Icing on the cake, our third day there, 4/18, we found a cock roach in the KITCHEN! We left to dinner & they "cleaned it" & when we came back, we found ANOTHER ROACH! Not a joke! Two cock roaches in one room=Major deduction! On Thursday 4/20, my sisters ordered room service at lunch time & it was raining really bad so we understand them being late/behind but 2hrs passed so I called & asked them about it. The staff are very friendly. The room I had was great right on the Laguna. There is no beach here but they have a shuttle to the other 3 resorts that can be used. The city bus in right in the front of hotel and it only costs less than $1 to take it. We opted out of all inclusive so can not comment on food. Rooms are clean and well maintained . read more

This hotel is very quiet and small which means that it's popular for older tourists and families, not so much for groups of young people going on spring break. The rooms: the rooms were clean and standard, but there's something wrong with the electric outlets. When I tried to connect my phone to the wall outlet I got electrocuted and after that was paranoid about charging my phone in my room. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms are always clean. The food: the food was the most disappointing part of this experience. The food tasted very off and was 9 times out of 10 served lukewarm. The breakfast was the only meal that was very good and when they had actual Mexican food, it was very delicious. Other than that, I suggest taking the hotel provided water taxi and eating at the Sunset Royal, the food is much more flavorful and is of better quality as well. If you want real Mexican food, you have no choice but to get out of the Hotel Zone. Take a red bus labeled "R-2" and get off on the stop for Mercado/Market 23. There you'll find great seafood spots as well as cheaper souvenirs. Better tasting food than anything that the Zona Hotelera has to offer. The Service: the restaurant staff was amazing and Zacarías, one of the servers always attended my family and I with that famous Mexican hospitality that's unmatched. I have been to 15 different countries, most of them many times, I have stayed in many good hotels and I absolutely love this hotel. It's not a 5 star hotel, if that's what you want then go pay a 5 star hotel price. I read the reviews so I knew I was going to be hit with a pitch to buy a timeshare right after checking in. I just politely said that I was not interested in buying a time share and that was it. The rooms are suites. They are big and beautiful and the hotel grounds are also beautiful. The people who work at this hotel are very friendly and helpful and they all speak English well. Being a smaller hotel there are not as many people constantly coming and going. This hotel is all inclusive so that means your meals are included. The food is USA food, not Mexican food. You can get an omelette made for you every morning and dinner always has at least two meats choices, usually pork and chicken and sometimes beef. There are many salad and desert choices. The food is good but it's not 5 star restaurant food. There are three pools, a pool slide, and a hot tub hidden behind bushes out by the lagoon. There is some entertainment at the hotel, Coco Bongo dancers, karaoke, and a kind of trivia comedian out by the pool. The negatives, in my opinion these are all very minor but some people are very picky: This hotel is on the lagoon side, not the Gulf of Mexico side, so there is no beach. Your room key is a plastic strap attached to your wrist so you can't lose your room key but it might bother some people to wear it constantly. Also, you might have to contort your wrist so the sensor is close enough to open your door. This hotel is about 2 km from the central hotel district but you can take a free hotel bus to the Sunset Royal Hotel that is only .5km from the central hotel district but you will spend a lot of time waiting for the bus and on the bus. There is also a water taxi that I never used. Unless your room is on the 3rd floor there is some noise from the room above. The floors in the room, bathroom, and shower are marble so they can be very slippery when wet. There are no rugs and there is no shower mat. The hotel walkways are slippery when wet and they can pool water when it rains. read more

Love the staff and the atmosphere of this place! Stayed here for five days four nights. Got here on a Friday night and they were having a good bye dinner for the guests that are leaving the next day. I believe it's a weekly thing and they also have a special welcome dinner some other night. It was outside in front of the performance area and they do have dance performances. I believe they have daily activities which include kayaking and biking. Everybody that works there are so nice. They always say hello and good morning and have the best attitude. I really like how it's not full of guests. They have hammocks and cabanas but it's not always taken. I never had to wait to use any of that. I did come in May though and not sure if it will get busy in the summer. They have a website and they have more information there but I felt really deceived because I thought it was by the beach. It is not. It's next to the lagoon and we can't actually go in the water. They do have a free shuttle that takes you to their sister resorts that are right by the beach though. I would give five stars but the food here sucks. I got the all inclusive and I thought I was going to eat all this good food but no. There was nothing to eat. I didn't have any seafood. Not even a piece of shrimp. They only have one buffet that's for breakfast lunch or dinner. It's really small. They also have a nicer restaurant that you have to make reservations for. But you can only make the reservations the day of from 8-4 and I always miss the time frame because I went on extra excursions. The front desk has lots of pamphlets if you want to do extra things like go to chichen itza or ziplining etc. The concierge actually recommended some group tours at discounted prices so I just went on those. read more

The rooms were nice and big and our room had a great balcony. The service was alright but we weren't crazy about the food. We needed a space for 8 people to sleep and they told us on the phone that the room we were staying in would sleep 10. We were told the room has a king bed, 2 fulls, a pull out couch and 4 twins. These "twin" beds were about 4 foot long lounge chairs with a cushion in each room. The "pots and pans" that came in the kitchenette were the type used for a double broiler, not a real pan, and the lids that came with them didn't fit the pots at all. The silverware drawer had one spoon and about 4 forks, all for a suite for "10 people." The staff was extremely unaccommodating for all the misleading aspects of the resort. The staff was only willing to help or accommodate where they could get some money out of it. There isn't a real beach, just a rocky drop off into the bay side so you have to take a bus each day to the other associated hotels that guests have access to, to be on the beach. Overall, we had a great trip and loved the beach at the hotel down the road, but this resort, many of its staff members, and the rooms itself were not up to par. read more

Worst resort I've been to. I'm not even sure it should be considered a resort. The place was old and small, the pool was deserted as I assume guest realized right away that they needed to go to their sister resorts or find entertainment elsewhere. The food selection was very limited, about a row of options and the food had very little taste. It does not have beach access as it is a marina so you have to take a shuttle to their sister property for this. The shuttle takes 15min to get there but the ride back is almost 45min as they make other stops. The property is old and sometimes smells moldy. On our 3rd day they stated that a 12yr old counts as an adult and that we needed to pay an extra $480 or we couldn't stay the following 2 days. The trip was booked through a travel site which then took hours to settle. I wouldnt recommend this resort. There are tons of better options read more

They kept it moving. Saw a Michael Jackson Review, Latin night and Mexican night, along with an urban night. Keep up he good work. Review for Sunset Dinner Cruise on Hercules offerred by Antonio Palma: This is the best $300 I have ever spent...ever hands down! Amazing private yacht experience with great service and good food and drink, extremely romantic for the price! You are a moron if you do any other "excursion or trip" as a couple while in Cancun other than this. The only non VIP part of the trip is finding the location and office, everything else is a remarkable value. This "dinner cruise" is like flying in a private jet compared to flying first class (which is what most dinner cruises are like). Do yourself (or your relationship) a favor and book this trip now, you won't regret it! I never leave reviews like this and I probably shouldn't because this will probably be booked next time I go to the Mayan Riviera....but I only had $100 pesos or $100USD on me to tip when I left and I gave them the $100 pesos and feel REALLY guilty about not giving them the $100USD because they deserved it- so I'm telling the rest of you the local knowledge! I just returned from staying at Sunset Marina and was very disappointed. The hotel itself is nice, a nice pool, and nice view. Service was non-existent. I have stayed in Puerto Vallarta and Cabo, this resort does not compare. I expected resort service, but when I am resting in the pool and I need to get out and walk around the pool to get my own drink, this is not a vacation for me or when I have to cross a good portion of the resort just to get ice. I received way better service on a cruise where I paid much much less. The resort is nice, but don't expect Resort Service. read more

This is the BEST PLACE TO STAY in Cancun! The impeccable cleanliness, delicious food, and amazing staff catered to our every need. I have been vacationing in Mexico/Riviera Maya for many years and none compares. Natalia is the most amazing employee. She took care of all of us and every time we needed some advice or ideas, she was a miracle worker for our non-spanish speaking group! Can't wait to go back! The hotel is actually located on the lagoon -NOT- on the Ocean. Also be aware that the lagoon is a no-swimming zone (due to alligators) and that there is only one very small pool on property. Although the resort is generally well maintained, the rooms are somewhat unclean (we found hair in our bed), and the food choices are limited. Don't be fooled: the resort lists a variety of dining establishments to choose from, but the only nice restaurant is conveniently closed every Saturday night, the pizza grill is only open for lunch, and none of the other bars serve food ... leaving you with a tepid buffet fare or room service. There is no authentic Mexican food on the menus and I found two sticks in my pasta that I can only assume came from an unkept kitchen. Amenities are outdated (I.e., rust on the jacuzzi tub, a cold hot tub, cluttered spa) despite the charming Mediterranean style architecture. Staff was generally very friendly, but some were a little pushy and bordered on inappropriately flirtatious (touching our legs, making suggestive comments, etc.). Lastly, the resort boasts a variety of water sports including sailing, kayaking, snorkeling and boating; however, the activities stand was almost never open, snorkeling equipment could only be purchased with a dive package, and sailing was not available the entire time we were on property. Overall, a disappointing, VERY Americanized experience that merits 2.5-3 stars at most. read more
