The food was horrible when I ate here a couple weeks ago. I ordered an avocado toast and they barely put an avocado on it-- just a very thin layer (almost like a mayonnaise spread). They tried to disguise this by putting a bunch of cheaper ingredients on top. The eggs that accompanied this meal were gross and watery. The people I was with ordered bacon and eggs and their eggs were gross too. On the bright side, the service was very friendly and attentive. I love Sunset Grill. I enjoy eating breakfast items any time of the day. This eatery caught my attention when I was at Eastgate Mall. It's a part of the mall, but this restaurant has its own entrance that isn't connected to it. Sunset Grill is across from Shoppers Drug Mart. On Family Day, I decided to have a late lunch here before heading home. There was so much parking on a quiet holiday. I parked and walked in. I could sit anywhere. A server said hi and asked me what I'd like to drink. I went with a Diet Coke. It's customary to get a chilled can with a glass filled with ice here. It held true at this location. I typically get French toast. For a while, I have been eyeing the protein breakfast. I decided to deviate from my ordering norm and went with it. You get a choice between steak or chicken. It comes with three eggs any style and a side salad. I went with chicken breast, as I had consumed a steak the night before and wanted a change. I had my eggs done over-medium. I am typically an over-hard egg eater. However, I thought that some runny eggs would be nice with chicken breast. Moments later, my food came. The shocking part was the side salad. It was so massive that it was on a full plate. I'd hate to know what a regular salad looks like. It came with salad dressing (I went with balsamic) on the side. The salad was super fresh. There was lots of crunch. I was happy with it. The protein breakfast was amazing. My over-medium eggs were done perfectly. The runny eggs were great to dip juicy cut-up cubes of chicken breast in them. The searing on the chicken breast was so flavourful. It was seasoned nicely. It came with slices of tomatoes. It was only a Monday. Yet, I felt that I had hit my tomato consumption quota for the week already. There are a couple of single-person washrooms at this restaurant. The one that I used was clean and nicely maintained. My server, Faith, was amazing. She caught the gorilla on my Kipling wallet and loved how cute he was. She talked about how she used to sell handbags at a major department store years ago. She had great tips on travelling and was lovely to chat with. I paid at the counter using a credit card. Went to this location for the first time and don't think I'll be returning or recommending this spot to anyone I know. The service was unreliable, we waited for utensils until after our food was in front of us, our food came wrong and instead of remaking it right away they tried ti ask us if they could just add something on top of what we already had. (Not acceptable for food we orderyone way to come made completely different.) The staff paid us almost zero attention even though we were a party of four. Definitely not somewhere I will be returning. I have been to other locations and have never experienced a visit like this. Hard pass for any future outings!! read more

I've been to Sunset Grill back in high school when they first opened (pre-Yelp days) and I was not impressed. Fast forward 5 years later and I'm back with my friend as our usual joint on Queenston closed early. The restaurant was almost filled around 1PM and had 2-3 waitresses circling the area. We were seated quickly and had our orders taken within the first 5 minutes. Great. We ordered the French Connection and the Three Eggs. Absolutely loved the French toast. Cooked just right and wasn't soggy in the middle and thick as hell. The three eggs was average so not a lot to brag about. I do feel like they burnt their toast a little. The one star off is for the service. We never got our waters and the waitress was somehow busy doing nothing. She was super nice but all the tables have already been served and she disappeared for a while - watched a table leave after they've been seated but was sick of waiting. We also asked for bread (untoasted) and literally said "like right out of the bag" and she came back with bread that was caked in butter :( I'll be back for the French Connection. Quick food. Somewhat friendly service. They could use a smile and friendlier tone. The food comes out fast but I think it's catered to older people as it's usually bland. But the fast service makes up for the the blandness of the food. I usually just go for breakfast now as it seams to be their specialty. It's always fast and hot. Give it a try if you're looking for a quick fast breakfast. They have pretty good combos for all ages. read more

Today the food was good as it always is but today service was ridiculously bad. We went early and the restaurant was not that busy. We sat ourselves which was great and we saw the server right away; great again. From that point it went downhill. We asked for water and that took 10 minutes. We are our breakfasts and waited for more coffee. We tried to catch our server's eye to no avail (still not busy in the restaurant). I decided I was going to get up and get it myself when we asked another server for coffee and that person brought it in about 5 minutes. They were really off their game today in terms of service. The food was delicious, but there was a HUGE cockroach on the separating wall right beside our table, and next to my mother. This was during the day.. when cockroaches should be at least hiding. I can't imagine the infestation there must be. Just a warning to others from my experience at this location. read more

Stopped here as we were passing through from on our way back to the U.S. after visiting Toronto. Wish they had a location in Philadelphia. Restaurant was packed, but the wait was quick, our server Laura was great and efficient, our 4 meals came out fast, and we all enjoyed our food. Throughout my life I've been known to be a humble man. My mother even taught my to turn the other cheek upon confrontations. However, one day as I was trying to go to get breakfast in the pm I had an encounter with what I can only describe as a squad of hoodlums. These men straight up insulted me and my product. Naturally, rocked one of em in the back of the head when he turned around. I can suffer all the insults to me personally but I will not let one talk down on my product. What kind of business man are you if one can just talk down to your product like it ain't no thang. Anyways, in response to their fellow hooligan getting fairly dropped, the other five jumped me. I put up a decent fight but they overpowered me and took my stache. Immediately after they left, I did the first thing anyone would do in a situation like this, I called the police. When they arrived they asked me the usual questions "Who are you?" and "What happened here?" and "Shut the hell up for a second, I'm tryna curve ball this Weedle". The cops then took my down to the station and axed me why I was slanging that product. Luckily I had the names and numbers and location of a few other slangers so I managed to shake em off me. Eventually, me and my band of cops managed to hunt down the men who robbed me and together we took them in custody. When I tried to get my product back the cops once again intervened but I gave up my failsafe Vato and I was able come home that day with the majority of my pride intact. Basically the lesson here is, if you're going to advertise yourself as a all day breakfast at least be open all day, I mean, it only makes sense right? read more

My partner and I decided to give this location another try. Today we met the actual owner. He is a great guy and great business man. I explained to him who I was and why on my last visit I left a poor review of his restaurant. He listened to all of my concerns and acknowledged my complaints. He personally sat us at our table and even served our food. One of the previous waitresses that we had issues with also served our table today. She was polite and kind. The owner went out of his way to correct the situation so Im changing my review to a 5 star because he truly earned my business back and our respect. That is what owning a business is all about. There will be times when action needs to be taken. And thats what he did today. Thank you for the awesome food, the amazing service but most of all, taking the time to talk to me about my review and hearing me out. I know as a business owner thats not always easy, but it shows how professional the owner truly is. I look forward to breakfast at that location again soon. This owner will be buying the location on Barton street, I would suggest supporting a great business like Sunset Grill at the two locations. read more
