I have many great memories of visiting Sunset Golf from my childhood. Growing up in Jefferson Hills, this was one of the closest mini golf course to us. I wanted to visit one more time before they permanently closed, so I did just that on the last weekend of operations for the mini golf. Sunset Golf is located on Brownsville Road in South Park. It is in a more serene area, and has a private parking lot. Along with mini golf, there is a driving range, golf lessons, a pro shop, as well as some concessions to partake in. We visited on the final Saturday of operations for the mini golf, arriving around 3 PM. It was fairly busy, but we were still able to enjoy our afternoon mini golfing and taking in the atmosphere. I thought the price for mini golf was fair at $8 per person. The mini golf was lots of fun! It was a 27 hole course, with a lot of variety in the holes. There were some more simplistic ones, and others that were more intricate. Some of my favorite holes were the water fall hole (#2), the Grinch House, and the Pirate Ship holes. Some of the holes were challenging, such as the one that is simply an uphill slope, or the one with a rotating receiver. The variety was nice to keep it interesting and moving along. You could even win a free game of mini golf, or some strokes removed from your overall score, depending on your performance on the last hole! I enjoyed getting to keep score the old fashion way with the book and paper. This place overall has a nice blend of newer, more updated aspects, while still keeping true to its history and providing some nostalgia in ways such as. I think on a normal day, you could probably get through the course in about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your party size. However, since it was more crowded on this day, it took us closer to two hours to get through since there were a lot of groups ahead of us that caused a natural bottleneck. The staff members were all very friendly, and also helpful. I could tell they took care in their work, as I saw several taking care of holes and keeping up with the landscape while we were going through the course. For example, coming through with a blower to remove mulch from the greens. I have always loved this place, and was so glad to be able to visit one final time. I also got to bring my fiancé here for the first time this trip, since he is not from here and had never been before. Even despite the extremely harsh heat and sun, we thoroughly enjoyed getting to visit this day! I will always cherish the memories made here, such as my sister's birthday party when we were kids, and all of the other good times over the years. My son and I stumbled upon this business looking for something different to do in the area and I am so glad we did! It is located near South Park of Allegheny County Parks, right on Brownsville with a free parking lot, and I wish I knew about it sooner. We went at the perfect timing as it was pretty empty our first game and then our second, more people came. Their prices are incomparable of only $8/person for 27 holes of outdoor mini golf with each hole having a really creative theme about it (ninja turtle one with sewers popping up, grinch one snowing with bubbles, mario, ship with weather storming for a nice cool off during a hot day - to name a few) and the second game is half off so if you play a second it's only $4/person. The driving range goes by how many balls you'd like, I believe we got a medium basket for $13. The last hole of mini golf gives you a chance to win a free game. We had a wonderful bonding experience. Maybe only good tip to know is bring your own water bottle and snack as we were able to bring ours but they do sell water bottles for $1/each. Such an affordable nice time, we can't wait to be back! This course must be someone's labor of love. Dates back to 1959. Something like 27 holes each with a unique character such as holes that disappear so you have to time your out, ones where your ball goes through pipes with flowing water to land on the course, one where your ball goes down a pinball game to determine which hole it comes out onto the green, etc. If you are looking for "professional" mini golf this is not for you. From Batman to barnyard to Super Mario to pirates to The Grinch, you travel from one fun and creative course to the next. Many of these courses are even engineered very creatively, where the ball enters a building and travels through and triggers obstacles and other entertaining objects to pop out. There's even a few surprises for golfers of water cannons and moving holes, all making it more exciting. The courses are fun, not too difficult to complete, and very well maintained. A round of mini golf is only $8 a person for all 27 courses, which is an excellent deal considering the price for simple 18 hole courses. This was such an enjoyable mini golf course that was goofy and full of surprises! For eight dollars a person, you get 27 holes of highly interactive mini golf. Each hole is artfully crafted to include water components, holes and planks that move up and down, and sound effects. These features definitely make the course challenging, but it is also what makes it so unique! You can tell how much work was put into this course years ago and how much work they currently spend maintaining it. Each hole has a different story; from "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" to Super Mario, the nostalgia is overwhelming! This place is so much fun!! My husband and I went there as part of a date night. There's mini golf and a driving range. I saw a table, so maybe snacks too? Not sure as we squeaked in with just enough time to finish by closing time and didn't have a chance to explore. There are 27 holes, so the experience lasts for a nice long time. It took us about an hour, which was perfect. All the holes have fun themes with very specific and creative obstacles. Many have additional fun elements like themed music, a spinning wheel to tell you how to play the hole (ex. Use only your foot for the first stroke), water sprayer, fog machine, etc. Also the guy running it seemed like the happiest, most content man in the world. I don't know if he was the owner or not. Stopped here on a Friday during Covid pandemic. It was late morning and the place was packed. It was a lot more crowded than we would have liked. I would suggest calling first to see how busy they are before venturing out if you are worried about Covid. They did have some safety measures in place like sanitizing the putter between use and handing out balls to use. They also had plexiglass up at the cashier. But other than that, nothing else. No signage posted or ground markers for where to stand. Of course everyone was on top of everyone else. The place is older and could use some fixing up. But most of the tricks worked and it was still a lot of fun for my 9 year old. She liked getting wet on a hot day. The driving range was full of people as well. read more

Sunset golf is, pardon my use of 1980s California vernacular, rad. The first hole, Batman, you play through a jail with video screens running images from the 1960s Adam West and 1990s animated series. The second hole, 'Gold Rush', lifts your ball up to the top of a water flume and randomly deposits your ball in one of two open drainage pipes where you can watch it cascade down. There's a mechanical bull that snorts. A rocket that steams up. A King Putt Sphinx hole with Steve Martin's 'King Tut' song playing in the background. A pirate ship that shoots water if your shot goes awry. A grinch hole with 6 fake-out holes that spit your ball back out. And more. This is one of the best mini-golf courses I've ever been to. Let's just hope nobody from a major record label or movie studio visits, though. I'm don't think all the intellectual property licensing rights have been secured. read more

We've been on the prowl for great outdoor mini-golf and we tried this 27-hole monster after a dinner at Pittsburgh BBQ Co. This course is a 30-minute drive from the city, but if you're looking for "mini-golf" as you might imagine it in your wildest, small-town PA dreams, it's worth a trip. And if you imagine that Caddy Shack's Chevy Chase moved to PA to die, but started a miniature golf course on the grounds of his house in the meantime, you wouldn't be far of the mark in imagining the look and feel of this place. They also have a laid back driving range--if you want to work on your swing in secret--but we're strictly pitch-and-putt. Here's what we liked most: Classic holes have low-tech special effects like water cannons, rocket smoke, disappearing balls, flowing water hazards. Thematic holes like Batman (plays TV song and has vid clips), Super Mario (plays song), and Pirates (tells skeleton-related jokes). Somewhat crowded with small-town kids and upbeat old ladies early in our visit, the place thinned out at 8 but is open until 10 p.m., so great for after dinner date. We saw deer skirting the edges of the driving range. That was pleasant. Free game for hole-in-one on last hole. And they sell ice cream (it's Blue Bunny, but who cares in this context). $6 for unlimited play. And it's quiet out there, save for the Mario statue. Here's what we liked least: The holes are packed together, which means if it's busy there's a lot of action around you. Once or twice we convinced teen couples on first dates to play past us and return to our hole when done. Try for an 8 o'clock arrival. Check-in, rental and bathroom are located in an old house adjacent to range. So using restroom feels like sneaking into someone's house to pee. Lastly, we felt that $6 for unlimited play ought to include a bit more maintenance on some of the simpler holes. read more

My fiance grew up in South Park and has gone here since he was a child, so it was really cool hearing all the things that had changed over the years. This is one of my favorite mini gold courses ever. Every hole is so exciting and different. No cliche waterfalls or any typical gimmick. It's so high tech that I can't believe it's here in South Park! There are surprises and funny twists on certain holes as well. They people are extremely friendly as well! I was looking for a new driving range in the area just for fun. Showed up and it was empty which was no problem and I purchased a large bucket. I was hoping to use the grass tee area and it was closed for no reason. It had not rained in a while so it wasn't muddy or torn up. I then used a turf bay and I was totally dissatisfied. The tee height is controlled mechanically which is cool, however the mat is not fastened to the low quality wood bay, which is just 2x4's nailed together to make a slanted bay. The ball would fall right off of the tee every time. Not to mention, I am 6'4 and the singular tee slot is a mere 5 inches maybe from the front of the "bay". I had no room to hit with lower numbered clubs. Then, when I tried higher numbered clubs, as soon as I would strike the turn to hit the ball, the ball would bounce up and mess up my swing. I didn't even finish the bucket because all it was doing is wasting my time and developing bad habits. I would not go back until they actually put time and effort into making a quality driving range. I was very disappointed with my experience. The only nice part about this place was the Taylormade balls which seemed almost unused, but now we know why. read more
