I would never hire Sunset Fencing. It seems their motto is "what the homeowner doesn't know won't hurt them!" My neighbor hired & put a deposit down before informing me Sunset Fencing was coming in a few days to replace our joint fence. Of course, I offered & paid half to my neighbor. I moved all my mulch & river rock 42" away from the entire fence line to make sure SF had enough room to do their work. They are very quick working. I didn't look at the progress until after all the ground area was leveled, post holes dug & fence was being nailed up. I found the displaced dirt they produced on my side, had covered about a foot OVER the line I had cleared & completely covered my mulch, plants & river rocks!! Had I not looked under the dirt, I NEVER would have realized how much had been covered up! Immediately, I went into my neighbors backyard to speak w/ the owner. His response was very defensive, explaining "that dirt gets everywhere, that's the way it is! Did I want his guys to dig out all the river rocks that were covered?" I said "really? Why should I even have to answer that? That really tells me how much concern your company has about my side of the fence!" More defensive speak from the owner as I explained, "all you had to do was ASK me to make more room along the fence!" I gladly would have! And did I mention that they plugged into MY electrical outlet w/o asking me???? Again, his response was not to apologize, just make excuses. Remember all the excess dirt? It was shoved it up against the bottom of the fence, about 4 inches tall. Prior to job start, my neighbor had expressed to SF, that the MAIN reason for new fence was that bottom on old fence (5 yrs old) had rotted due to being buried in dirt! After I mentioned my "dirt against the bottom" concern, I was told by the project mgr Alicia, not to worry about it cuz pressure treated wood was used & fence would last 30 yrs! Did SF offer to move any dirt away from fence bottom or the "excess dirt" from leveling or post hole dig? "NO!!" because in their CONTACT, it says they don't move any dirt back. Does that make sense? To clean up the mess they made? The words professional, courteous & respectful behavior DO NOT apply to this company. Oh yeah, their guys laid heavy tools in my flower beds! I will say the fence looks beautiful but REMEMBER, I never would have known about any of SF poor business practices had I not been home while the fence was being built!!! PS, my husband called to re express my experience, he spoke to Alicia (project mgr & sister in-law of owner) who said SF would be back the following week doing more work for my neighbor so she would come by to check on my side of the fence. Original work started on & completed May 31st. Today is June 11th! We haven't seen or heard anything from Sunset Fencing. Pretty fence, VERY expensive $$$!! See first two pics after SF completed the job. Third pic of MY repair in progress. All my River rocks had to be removed so the dirt didn't turn into mud, then washed & repainted w/ clear shine....THEN put back in place!! Still not done after 10 days of working on it. I hired Sunset Fencing on June 4 to replace my fence between the neighbor in Tracy, Ca. I asked t Alecia the company representative to be careful around a small area where the fence was being replaced, and to inform her crew of that. the crew broke a plugged sprinkler head just below the dirt level, it leaked and saturated the area. I called Alecia 2 days after when I noticed the problem. her response was we are not responsible for damage done by the crew. then she said I don't have any one now, it will take a week to send someone. I questioned her leaving it leaking for whole week. she said I'll send someone tomorrow, No one showed up. when the fence was done she showed up 5 minutes later to collect the check! read more

Wow! Sunset was excellent from start to finish! Alicia came out, as scheduled to bid on our fence and gave us a written quote right on the spot. She was willing to work with us on price because another quote we got was slightly lower. We reached agreement and said YES to them doing the job. They said they would be there at 8:30 am with a double crew to get it done in one day, and they did. Fernando carefully went over everything as the crew began demolition. He listened to our requests, talked about their plans and gave his advice on a few things (which we took and we were very pleased with). It was amazingly quick work for this crew, but they didn't cut corners and did the job correctly. True professionals at work! Craftsmen in fencing. Alicia came back out in the early evening to look everything over after, photograph the site, and collect payment. She addressed a minor concern, and said they would come back to resolve. I trust that they will. Alicia wanted to be sure we were happy, even asked if the shared fence neighbors were. I like the 5 year guarantee/1 yr for gates. Genuine people! We are SO pleased with our fences/gates (as are our shared neighbors) and we would highly recommend Sunset to everyone we know. We have seen their fences all over town for years and now we know why! I had read the reviews before hiring them and was a small bit concerned about the negative ones where there was no reply/response, but we had just the opposite experience. I couldn't say enough good things about Sunset fencing. First of all I took three estimates in, to be honest I was expecting them to be the most expensive. Much to my surprise they were the lowest. They came out right after being called and did an estimation and wrote up a business proposal on site. They showed up about four days before the set date to review things, they suggested a fun little pocket gate which we added. They arrived exactly when they said they would on day one and were completely cleaned up and done on day three. This was with us adding the pocket gate and two other side gates at the last minute. They even did another complete section for my neighbor, when asked on the spot. I was so pleased with the communication both with their estimator Alicia and the owner Fernando they gave throughout the whole process. They made sure they cleaned up the worksite each and every day. Their workers were respectful and Very professional. We were so happy with the final result that we had them come back a month later and add a front fence dividing me and my neighbor. I'm giving only two stars because a couple years back they did fantastic work on our fence. However, 3 months ago we had another fence we needed help with. My husband tried calling and got no answer. I called and left a voicemail. After about a week someone finally called me back. We set up a date and a time for the crew to come out and give us an estimate. They never bothered to show up or even call to let us know they weren't coming. We made sure to be home in case they showed up but no one ever did. She is a little hard to get ahold of, but don't give up and if you leave her a text message she'll get back to you right away. My mother paid in full for fencing and to have the fencing painted. Fernando seemed to do a decent job with his crew to put up the fencing however when it came to completing the job to paint the fence my mother who has cancer was given the run around for over 4 months. First excuse was it's too windy, then Fernando said he'd send a crew (never happened), he'd be there in 2 weeks to paint the fence and no surprise it never happened. I finally got involved after 4 months of the fence not being completed with painting. Fernando's office girl tried to get tough over the phone with me. She acts hard but brings nothing to the table. After threatening Fernando with driving from my house in Reno to deal with it myself and knock on his door he finally refunded my mother for the paint he never completed. Beware.... the world is an ugly place. People take advantage of the weak. I will not allow to happen to my mother. I told Fernando I will get an attorney involved as well as the BBB.
