Needing to update my glasses, I checked reviews and decided on a couple of possible providers, including Sunset Eye Care. I went to each place and chatted with personnel before deciding to try Sunset. My exam was fine and handled professionally. I made an appointment for today to get fitted for new glasses, confirmed the appointment last week, and arrived on time. I stood in the rain outside the business and pushed the doorbell button, as instructed on a sign outside the optical department, twice, waiting for a minute or so between attempts. When no one came to the door, I knocked with the end of my umbrella. A man came to the door, let me in, and told me to stand in a display area while he finished up with someone else. When he came back to me, he asked for my name, which I gave him, and he told me to sit in the chair where the prior customer had been. I would have to describe his tone and manner as curt or surly. He went to an adjacent room for a minute or two and while he was gone, I considered saying something about his manner, but decided to wait and see if things changed. When he came back, it seemed he was provoked that I had knocked at the door and I told him plainly that I had been standing in the rain and pushed the bell twice before knocking. He accused me of having an attitude and referred to me as "Bubba" although I had already given him my name and had a confirmed appointment. I responded that it seemed to me he had the attitude, and that I was the patient and customer. When he continued in the same manner, I told him I thought it best if I got a copy of my lens prescription and purchased my glasses elsewhere. This he provided to me and when I asked for his name, he declined to give it to me. He was, however, the only male in the optical area. While I had hoped that Sunset would be a source I could rely on for eye care for a number of years, I must say that I do not plan to return. read more
