    Sunset view from our site

Amazing! Sleeping among sequoias was magical! No showers, but water and restrooms available and plentiful. Picturesque grounds, make sure to get a site on the west side for amazing sunsets right from your spot.

This is a great campsite for newbie campers! The site has a functioning restroom that is cleaned daily and is conveniently located across from Grant Grove Village which has a mini market, gift shop, restaurant, and visitors center. Campsites 52-56 will be your best bets for the best sunset views and it's close to the restrooms. One thing I didn't anticipate was bees. Bring bee repellent when preparing food, they are harmless, just annoying. Don't trust the weather forecast too, it's hot during the day...even if it says it's in the 60s it's really 80s, at night it does get really cold so bundle up. We sent Labor Day weekend.

    Hume Lake! 9 miles away!

Great Great Campground! My family and I (a total of 14 people) camped here July 19-23. We took up 5 campsites under the Sequoias and the weather was a cool 72 degrees. Not close to water but Hume Lake is 9 miles away. Good day trip! Able to hike 1 mike to Grant Tree and across the street from Grant Grove visitor center. They have an amphitheater that has a something every night. Definitely would stay again. They only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because recreation.gov rented our reserved spots out to another group! Not cool!

Overall this campsite was okay but not amazing. Booked this campsite in August during Covid , the park was quiet and the majority of campers are families and couples. I read all the reviews, scoured over internet photos before committing to three nights here. Pros: -Campsites are pretty large and clean with ample parking space, (Depending on your campsite, read down below to my cons) - Most campsites are shaded with trees , you can hang hammocks and clothes lines. -Clean restrooms , flush toilets, stainless steel commercial sink to wash your dish-wares. -Garbage dumpsters are easily accessible within walking distance. -Metal bear boxes are fairly large. -Abundance of firewoods you can collect. -You feel like you are in the forest. -Water faucet fill stations are easily available. -People wearing mask during Covid -Sheriff patrolled the area during the day. -Park Maintenance service restrooms on our third day. Cons: -Beware! some sites are literally on top of each other, fortunately during Covid this campground is under 50 percent capacity, We got stuck next to a screaming family playing loud music who ran their generator all day, and the next night four college kids were drinking and screaming all night =( . -YELLOW JACKETS TONS!!!! - Restroom flush toilets are extremely LOUD! If you book next to one , be aware you're going to hear every single person doing their business, the restroom lights are also really really bright. -Our campsite was site #087 , if this campsite was at 100 percent capacity you are literally on top of each other, squeezed into one tight space. Also our site was in a deep valley/pocket so you can literally hear every single sound, snore, child screaming, car door slamming , and toilets flushing. - Some campsites are not shaded with trees and not on leveled ground. -The campsite road is a one way road with no signage , you will get lost , there were multiple cars driving in circles looking for their campsites. Within walking distance to Grant Grove Market This campsite was overall pretty decent and clean, not all campsites are equal . Please pick up your beer bottle caps and play your music through your headphones. Leave no trace.

Camped here for Memorial Day weekend and had a great time. We arrived around 9:30am on Friday and had a really nice selection of sites to choose from. The campground was completely full before sunset, for those who may be coming on a holiday weekend during First Come First Serve time. We camped in site #51, which was next to the restrooms and on a bit of a slope. This site also comes with a lot of free pine sap, so do be mindful that everything will stick to the bottom of your shoes and going barefoot is not recommended. :) I found the layout of the sites to be a little cramped, as #52 was thisclose to us, but everyone who camped around us was very chill. We had to share a parking space with site 52, so please keep that in mind if you have multiple cars in your group. You will get a note from the rangers on your car if you're not parked with all 4 tires on the pavement, but there is an overflow lot near the front of the campgrounds if you can't all fit. Restrooms were clean but make sure to bring your own soap, as this isn't provided. There were also some nice ranger programs at the amphitheater every night at 8pm, the schedule is updated daily at the Kings Canyon visitor center. The center is located practically across the street from Sunset and is within walking distance. There you'll find the post office, gift shop, visitor center, food court, and general store. If you've forgotten anything at all, you'll be able to find it there. Sunset is also a really great central jumping point to all of the amazing hiking in Kings Canyon. A trail running 1 mile to the Grant Tree can be found within Sunset as well.

Plenty of space for our rig

Went through the north entrance of kings canyon sequoia coming from Yosemite. At the entrance to park ranger said to check this campground as sometime if your only staying for one night there are openings. When we pulled in they had listed in the window what sites were open for that night. There were plenty to choose from with no issue. We hiked to generals giant. Not much food options near camp so bring something. We were able to have fires and the bathrooms were fine. Quite place to stay with no issues.

Clean and nice but too small campsites, it looked like we were in the same group, there is no privacy at all.

We went on our family's first tent camping trip. The camp ground was perfect. Our fellow campers friendly and the camp settled down by 930pm kids ran and played in the afternoons and evenings . I got to see deer in the campgound and my kids loved the squirls.,and lizzards. Bathrooms were quite clean. The sites are alittle close together but it was ok. The family wants to go again. Woot woot

Just as others mentioned, as soon as Friday night came around it was loud with campers who are not respectful to others or nature. No ranger or camp host to enforce the quiet hours. I recommend to come here during the week, leave on Friday. The sunset view sites are amazing, but you also will have dozens of visitors walking through your site to watch with you. The sparking sites are narrow and most are steep. We had problems parking our tent trailer safely and we were lucky to get another spot. The ranger was helpful and let us scope out about 10 other sites that they had available for our dates. A lot of dead trees marked to be cut down which leaves you wondering about dead fall during your stay- keep that in mind when you pick your site. You can get a key from the John Muir lodge to use their hot showers that are $1 for 6 minutes. Super clean showers and we had not wait. If we left on Friday I would of given it 5 stars as it was the quietest camp ground we have ever stayed at, until the loud weekender campers showed up.

Stayed at site 54 and it was amazing! The sunset was beautiful and the city lights were visible at night. It is first come first serve but there were plenty of spots when we went(June 8-9). We arrived early in the morning and got lucky with this spot. Restrooms were clean and it was close to a convenience store and visitor's center.

We had a group of 30 people staying in spots number 91-95 on June 23rd - June25th. The campsite itself is gorgeous. We were close to a bathroom, water spickets and trashcans. There is a gorgeous trail down to a waterfall (Ella Falls) only a short walk from these campsites - it branches off the back of site number 118. These sites though, get these sites. There was a beautiful rock formation in spot number 91, our entire group crowded on top of it and watched the sunset every night. It was incredible. We drove to Sandy Cove Rd on day one, (bring inner tubes to slide down natural water slide formations! 20 minutes from campground tops.) On day two we went to the crystal caves, hour and 15 minute drive and there is a gas station along the way. The last portion of the road is long, windy and rickety (but paved). We took the family tour which was great, an hour down in the caves. It was $18 a person. Shout out to Cindy Chick, and all the park rangers that work here who were such a huge help in planning this trip. They were pretty lenient on noise levels, which was great for us, but might not be what you are looking for. Thank you for having us, Sunset Campground.

I really enjoyed this campground. The sunsets are amazing here if you get the right spot. Some sites are on hillsides so do some research.

    Yea! August 2020

Do all sites have a parking spot at or nearby? My site (114) says hike-in, but also describes a 25ft driveway. I have two young toddlers, so usually hike-in is not an option for me unless it's a 20ft hike-in with parking close by.

I'm having difficulty finding a place to shower since there is no showers in the campground, what is the closest place to shower here? Also I read some answers but I was wondering if Stony Creek is a lodge or campground?

There are showers , there used to at grant Grove. There is a campsite at by Stony Creek . At Stony Creek Public showers there $4 token for 10 min shower. Also at Lodgepole Public Showers you can use Quarters $ 1.25 for 3 min shower.

Hi. I'm wondering if I can attach a garden hose to the water spout / faucet / spigot in the Group A / B campsites? Would I need a special adapter? Since the showers are currently closed, I'd like to use a spray nozzle instead. Thank you!

The campsite was beautiful. Not too many bugs. Everywhere you looked it was beautiful. There's lots of campsites nearby but not too close. Our campsite was 202, right behind the large rock and pretty close to the river. It was nice hearing the rush of water throughout the day. The bathroom was close enough except for during the the night. Knowing that bears are in the area made it really scary going in the middle of the night. Wear a headlamp, it's much better than a flashlight. The shuttle will come inside the campgrounds and pick you up near the restrooms in the main parking lot. There are a few trails for hiking (which we didn't have time to do). I do recommend if traveling with another family to work out the food situation because there's only one bear box per site. One large cooler can fir or two smaller ones. One large and one small cooler will not fit in the box. ALL food, snack, even perfume, & body spry should be put into the bear box.

I would say the amount of space you get per spot is pretty spacious compared to some other campgrounds. There are potable faucets throughout the campground and bathrooms nearby. The bathroom isn't very clean and only four stalls so there is a wait sometimes but the faucets are motion sensored which is very convenient. There are a lot of interesting bugs at this camp site. And a lot of chipmunks. If they find any scraps they'll be coming back often. We had to scare them off to stop them from coming and digging into our bags. There is a ranger truck patrolling the area at all hours and will stop by your camp site to find things you're doing wrong. We got a warning for leaving out unscented (free and clear) hand soap. And the ranger picked up our trash bag with a few blow out diapers and shoved it on top of our baby food inside the bear box. If you look at the bear box label it tells you to put your kids car seats in there but you are provided a box that will not fit them and all your other stuff. Cross your Ts and dot your Is.

This location is closest to the Kings Canyon entrance, and the drive is beautiful. If you're visiting in winter, just be prepared. After December, the highway into the park can close due to weather -- this happened to us for a couple of days - snowed before followed rain. The alternate route is possible but very long. We stayed four days and had flexibility, but definitely bring chains if you're visiting in winter. The property has RV spots and rental homes. We stayed in a three-bedroom house with 2 baths with 5 people (and a small dog) for 5 days/4 nights for New Year's and had plenty of space. The home was comfortable, with a full kitchen and included a gas BBQ, dishes, and cookware. A few small things would make it even better: more kitchen utensils and serving plates/bowls, plus extra towels. We were a family of five with a dog visiting during very rainy weather, and towels went fast. It would also be more convenient if the washer/dryer were in the unit instead of shared at the office/library. Important tip: bring all your food and drinks with you. There is no store or grocery nearby, and this is not a "pick it up down the road" situation. The closest grocery stores are in Woodlake or Visalia, about a 45-minute drive EACH WAY. Bee stopped in Visalia on the way in at Winco to buy food. The internet was surprisingly excellent -- fast and reliable. We also loved the wildlife around the property. We saw lots of animals, but especially enjoyed the friendly cats that stopped by and the silly quails wandering around. Overall, this is a peaceful, family- and dog-friendly place with a lot of character. If you're looking for a quiet home base near Kings Canyon and Sequoia and don't mind being remote, we'd definitely recommend it and would stay here again.
