When we moved in, things were great! Chantal worked in the office, and things worked like a well oiled machine. Fast forward three years...they selectively enforce the rules, drag their feet when it comes to making repairs, and the office staff is rude and less than helpful. They are now running move-in specials because nobody wants to renew their lease due to the current state of the property. They are busy running silly contests and "resident appreciation" events, but what we would really appreciate is consistent enforcement of the rules and a receptionist that doesn't have an attitude when you call to ask a question. read more

She made sure I found the place I wanted and made great efforts to keep me up to date on every part of the process. Her attention to detail is exceptional. Long over due review. We lived here for 2 years, finally moved out! Don't believe the 5 Star Reviews - they try to incentivize the residents to leave 5 star reviews and in return they get entered into raffles to win free rent, gift baskets, cash, etc... So let's start with the thin walls & the neighbors: The guy right above us was a loud and disgusting neighbor overall. I was once sitting in the grass in front of our patio with my 1 year old daughter enjoying the sun. The upstairs neighbor steps out to his patio and hocked a loogie that nearly missed my daughter and I by a foot. Like he couldn't do that in the bathroom?? He also always sounded like he was bowling in his kitchen or moving furniture around 24/7. Not kidding one bit. You can hear when he got out of bed, when he was walking to the bathroom, etc... the ceiling creaked with every footstep he made. He also enjoyed playing his sub-woofers, so our 1 year old had trouble napping during those times. Secondly, the smoking (eventually crack) problem with our neighbors to the right: Neighbors to our right smoked cigarettes SO much we couldn't even have our windows or screen door open for fresh air. They probably took 10+ smoke breaks a day. The wind blew the smoke to our direction every single time. I noticed towards our final months at Sunscape that I was finally able to open the screen door and let the breeze in. My boyfriend and I knew that was odd, but happy that they stopped smoking. Only to figure out that they eventually were staying up all hours of the day. They'd have company over, play board games through the night, and by morning we'd hear them still playing the same board game like they didn't go to sleep. Then during the week we'd hear the husband and wife arguing and screaming, "GET AWAY FROM ME! I WILL STAB YOU! I HAVE A KNIFE!" A lot of sobbing and screaming. Cops showed up twice. I'm guessing during the week they'd be going through withdrawals? Idk. Neighbors to the left: Again - thin walls, so we heard her alarm every morning. That's it. Gardening and trash day is always around 7am & super loud. So don't expect your baby to be allowed to sleep in on Thursdays/Fridays. Sunscape Apartments - Incentive to leave 5 Star reviews - Apartments Near Me - Alta Loma, California

The Sunscape apartments are discriminatory, harassing, and retaliatory. Particularly the community director Madison G. Story time: I moved here in July. During the time I signed the lease, I was never advised the children could not play outside. I have a 9 year old son who loves to play outside. I am assuming I am the only one who's kids like to play outside in the community. There is no play area or designated area for the kids to play at this property. Aside from the tennis courts..initially My son was going to the tennis courts but due to the negligence of the property the tennis court door got stuck and my son was stuck in there. As a result he he is traumatized and does not like going in the tennis courts. So he plays outside with his 8.5 inch handball against the concrete stucco wall within the property. One day My son advised the maintenance man approached him and said he couldn't play outside with his ball. I spoke with maintenance who advised he was given the directive from the office about noise. I went into the office and spoke with Chantel S. (Who btw is the only professional and nicest ones in the office) and was rudely and condescendingly addressed by Madison the community director, whom never properly introduced herself prior to interrupting, and she advised damaging the property was prohibited per my lease. When asked to show how the handball was damaging the concrete stucco wall and she couldn't , so she then stated something about the noise. when asked where should the children play, I was not provided and answer a policy restated to me. After the engagement with her I called "corporate" and spoke with Alyssa who advised my complaint would be handled. By handles she meant forwarding the complaint about the community director back to the same director I complained r about. Since the complaint was filed I have now been provided a retaliatory "first notice" referencing horseplay, yelling, running and destructive behavior. Which they state is in the lease, that was posted on my door. I call corp again and Alyssa advises she wi File complaint but it will still go to Madison because she is the highest at this property..when I asked for above Madison and Alyssa I was advised they were not permitted to provide that information (of course not). As a resident you will not feel heard, if you voice your concern you will be retaliated against, and also discriminated against if you have children. I do not recommend living at this property. It feels like I'm paying $2536 a month as a single mother to be harassed by the community director Madison. Oh Ps. Let's not talk about the "Karen" who recorded my minor child while playing outside that they state complained, once I had to knock on her door to advised recording people especially minors is against the law... yeah Sunscape needs to clean it up over here.. it looks nice but administratively it's a mess.. LEWIS CEO please look into the community director and how many complaints she has truly had against her.. I can't be the only one.. these damages to the car and property have yet to be proven.. first it was the noise now it's damages from a 2g 8.5 inch handball....sounds like Madison responded to this review or one or friends in corporate... like I said this property is not for you if you have children..they are not welcomed and if they are the. Create a play area for them so noise or damage won't be a concern... it's simple... this situation has nothing to do with the lease.. it has everything to do with a single mother checking the office about talking to her child instead of her the adult and letting Madison know what I thought about her professionalism.. Since we first moved in we had issues that needed maintenance that were never fixed 3 years later. Although for service calls like fixing our sink or swapping out a burnt out light bulb I'll give them that. Our neighbors have been a nightmare leaving trash, literal dog poo in a paper towel in front of their front door, piles of trash bags left next to their front door for weeks until one of the many people that lived there decided to finally take it out. And what did Sunscape do about it? Absolutely nothing, this was last summer, and our neighbors miraculously and finally moved out. We have called and been patient with them for a whole year living this hell to the point where the ground stunk because of all the trash and things leaking from their trash. While they still had trash sitting outside in their patio, front door and even in front of the bushes, sunscape still had the nerve to show the apartment above our old neighbors with all the trash sitting outside after 2 straight months. It's disgusting and embarrassing and how they handle their property and take care of the people that live here is extremely poor. They don't even deserve the one star. read more

The first maintainer team, Anthony/Joseph and the newest ones Steven/Jay have been extremely helpful and responsive to our requests and of course Johnel. I'd like to thank Caitlin Sizemore, the assistant community director, for her excellent customer service. She was very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. She was always following up with me and was with me every step of the process if I had any questions. She coordinated with me to accommodate my requests and she even sent me a nice card in the mail after the whole process. I definitely appreciate her professionalism and willingness to work with me. This a very nice community in Alta Loma that is near a lot of good shopping/dining. The community is friendly, clean, and beautiful. The rate is very reasonable for the area, the amenities, and the size/layout of the apartment. I almost rented here but due to personal reasons was not able to. The apartment that I was shown was very clean and all the staff including the landscaping/maintenance outside were very friendly. There was also a gentleman who helped me over the phone (I think his name started with an M?) who was also very helpful and polite. If ever in the future I will be renting an apartment, I will definitely come back here. Thank you! read more

I am writing this review to let people know about the alarming crime rate. My boyfriends car has been broken into twice now within 1 month span. He is not the only one who has had their car broken into. There has been at least 2 others that I know of. There are no cameras up, managements response was to switch up the hours that a security patrol was there. This obviously it isn't helping. My boyfriends window was smashed. It has cost us so much money living here. Management themselves as people are very nice. I have never had any issues with them or the property other than the alarming crime happening and the lack of action to protect its tenants. There was a shooting less than .25 miles from this apartment. We definitely wont be renewing our lease here. The fact that I cant feel safe walking to my car is bothersome. read more

As beautiful as this place is, i wouldnt expect to be scammed. I started an application with one person, who didnt explain everything necessary to start the rental process. So i was unprepared for quite a few fees and random but necessary information. When it came to getting approved, it was a quick process, but once they received payment, i was handed to a new agent without knowing and they kept asking for more money and more verification that wasnt spoken about with the first person, thus keeping my payment in limbo until it was seemingly too late. I asked for a refund after yet another round of verification was asked for. She told me that she needed a "valid reason", and that she would put in a request for repayment, but ive not heard anything since, nor have i been refunded. This put me in a terrible situation as i am in a rush to find a place which we discussed to begin, and now im out $600. read more

I loved living here. The staff is super friendly, you're nearby everything including grocery stores, shops, parks and even the post office. The groundskeepers are so so helpful and build a relationship with the residents which is always heartwarming. They offer 1 and 2 bedroom apartments that are equipped with a microwave and fridge. Some 2 bedrooms even have a washer and dryer as well. Garages are available for those that have 2bd/2bth, I believe. The complex also includes a pool, spa, 24 hour gym, playground, tennis court, basketball court, business center and a club house for events that they do during the month and is available to rent out. It is a pet friendly community and they even provide little baggies for your walks around the complex. Things they can improve on: * switching to double paned windows * getting a night time manager that actually answers his phone Things to note: * off a busy street * ambulances pass by all day/night As for the negative review, I can vouch for her and what happened. I brought this to the attention of the person whom made this mistake and she is no longer there. Overall, the customer service you receive is fantastic and I only wish that they would branch off to other areas. Edit: The price of the current rent is not worth it considering that the complex needs a lot of remodeling/updating. read more

This review is based off of our initial visit, application for the apartments, move-in and first week in this apartment complex. I plan to do a follow up review after 1 month. Me and my husband looked at about 7 apartments, and if we include the ones from online...20! Neither of us had ever considered renting an apartment until I recently took a full time position at a near by college and wanted a shorter drive time. Michelle initially spoke with me over the phone and was extremely sweet and knowledgable, unlike most of the other places we called. We scheduled an appointment and looked into a two bedroom with Michelle and Brittany as our guides, and made this place our "second" choice. After looking at 3 other apartments and really thinking about the way we were treated between our "first" and "second" choices, we went with Sunscape. Communication and the way the information is relayed (i.e. Tone, Manner, Body Language) is extremely important to the both of us. We did not want to be somewhere we did not feel comfortable talking to the staff. We came back and Yvonne kindly showed us a 1 bedroom they had available for immediate move-in (yes, we downsized) and it was extremely clean and well kept. We agreed to apply for it and within the same day we were approved. Both of us work full time, and they managed to make the application process and follow up (i.e. Deposit, Pet Records, Etc.) stress free! We've now been here for a week and we have zero complaints. Everything works perfect and our neighbors are very kind and quiet. Quiet is key! Highlights so far: *extremely close to the 210 freeway *very knowledgeable, friendly and kind staff *feels safe and the community is very welcoming *the condition of the apartment is great *the layout of the apartments are great: even though it's only 700 sq ft, it doesn't feel like it (it's the 2 of us and a cat) *kitchen is larger then most of the apartments we looked at, including some 2 bedrooms at different locations. *they just had free in-n-out *hopefully I didn't butcher names here!* read more

Best leasing office staffs ever I had to move around a lot and I met a lot of apt office staffs somewhat rude and disrespectful to young and foreign originated tenants in so cal but Sunscape staffs including office staffs to maintenance staffs are really courteous and hardworking and very welcoming and always provide delightful encounter and service! This place is gorgeous and the people here are very polite and understanding- it's clean and everyone is so friendly! Viviana is the manager and she helped get my problem fixed! We just moved here in October and Janae is great, she always takes care of the residents here. If I ever need anything, she is the person we go to. I've lived here just short of a year and for the most part it was an ok place. The grounds are always kept nice, the management is friendly and there's an all around safe vibe. I do have to discuss the cons though as these unfortunately outweighed my wanting to stay. First, the cost for what you get, everything in the apartment is pretty outdated, no washer/ dryer (there are only 2 laundry rooms on site) and carpeted floors and the air conditioner and dishwasher are super noisy! Lastly and probably the most significant reason for not wanting to stay is the very very thin walls, you can hear literally EVERYTHING! I'm downstairs and you can hear the wood cracking above you if your upstairs neighbors walk heavy. I've lived in Apartments most my life and i can tell you that I've never heard anything like this. It's definitely an old building. Spiders, roaches and ants end up in the apt because of the large spaces in the door frames. Other than all these things mentioned, it was good, i don't think I'd recommend it to any of my friends or family though. read more

If I could, I would give a negative rating but unfortunately I can't. I went there with my mother to check out what they had to offer. There was only one lady working there at the time and she was on the phone. Slim Latina with messy hair. We decide to scope out the office and look outside at the pool area which is a really nice setup. Over 5 minutes have passed and she's still on the phone. She's incredibly loud and we can hear everything she's saying. She's on the phone with some grandpa that wants to move his granddaughter in but she only has a $800 budget. She insists on his granddaughter stretching her finances to move in because it's such a nice area blah blah blah. Then they start talking about where they grew up, which apparently was Montclair. All while my mom and I are right in front of her. It was definitely over 10 minutes at this point. No acknowledgement, no "I'll be right with you," nothing. My budget was well over $800 a month and I was looking for an immediate move in and because of her pathetic customer service skills, she lost a big sale. I hope her manager sees this rating. If she was in fact management, then I feel sorry for the tenants at that place. read more

The staff is about the only good thing about this complex. Everything else is subpar. Old appliances, cheap peeling laminate, old cabinets that have been painted over about a thousand times. Thinnest windows ever, and the place is next to the freeway so you hear noise ALL DAY AND NIGHT. No washer/dryer in unit, tiny patios, some parking spots were located literally right on the other side of my bedroom wall next to my bed. I could hear engines starting up while I was lying in bed. I was told that management would be updating windows and sliding glass door but it never happened. They did finally replace the foul smelling AC unit, but this was a horrible experience that was not pre-arranged with me, so I was forced to let a crew of rude and gross men in my apartment at 7am on a Monday, so they could spend six hours installing a new AC unit and messing up my patio and carpet, had all my doors and windows opened so they could yell to eachother, and kept taking breaks. I couldn't even use my own toilet because they needed to go in my bedroom and that's where the friggin toilet is. I left to go use the bathroom by the pool area and returned to find one of my neighbors wandering around my apartment talking to the work crew. I was so angry and disturbed. It's the main reason I didn't renew my lease. I felt that management should not have forced me to have that crew of men in my apartment without arranging it with me first and they should have had one of their own maintenance crew there to supervise the third party crew. read more

I love this place! I moved here from NY and its a huge change. The people here are so nice and they don't have a mean bone in their body. The maintenance staff are very sweet and extremely knowledgeable. The place is beautiful and the residents are very sweet too. I made a bunch of friends within the first three days of my move. I lived here for nearly two years. I am glad to be out of this place. Formerly a family-owned company, it's become an ugly corporate monster that overcharges for everything from rent to move out. At the end of every lease term, they radically increase already high rental rates, and on move out they charge outrageous fake fees to justify not returning your deposit and bill you more. What do they care? They just tell you they will ruin your credit. Well, there are appropriate remedies for this kind of miscreant behavior too. You can find many better places to live where you will be treated far more fairly. I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for another place to live. read more
