This Asian family-owned Alterations and Dry Cleaning business is one of Roanoke's best kept secret. I discovered it a while ago, and it was not by chance. Needing to have some alterations done to a new suit I had just bought to attend a special event, I visited several alterations and dry cleaning businesses that I knew about because of their central location and expensive advertising to get their name out there. All of them charged exuberant amount of money to have what I needed done, as well as having to outsource the job, and taking much too long to have it done. Then, all of a sudden, I remembered a little place I once saw as I was driving by the Colonial Office Center. It was located in one of three small businesses at the end of the parking lot to this Office Center. And I thought to myself: "Sometimes amazing things come in small packages." So I decided to travel on the road less traveled, in this case beyond the parking lot, and to this small building that housed the Sun's Alterations & Dry Cleaning business. This is where I met a very kind and hospitable lady who's main concern was solving my problem of getting my new suit tailored and ironed on time to attend my special event. Since all their alterations are done on the premises by a professional tailor with 26 years of experience, she told me it could be done and quoted me a very reasonable price. Who would ever have imagined that in this humble, little store, hidden behind a large Office building, I found the solution to my problem provided by a wonderful and warm Korean family-owned business. Since then I have always gone there for all my alterations and dry cleaning needs, and recommend the place to family and friends. Today, when I visited the place to take some photographs to accompany this review, I had the privilege to also meet the husband of the family and their older son, and to personally thank them for the great contribution that they are making to the community of the Star City of Roanoke, Virginia. Wonderful experience getting the dress for my sons wedding altered and hemmed. Kim was very kind and attentive as we discussed what I wanted done. Her work was excellent, the dress had multiple layers and the bodice was "constructed". I thought the price was very reasonable for the amount of work. After the wedding I took the dress back to be cleaned and again excellent job. read more

I purchased a dress online that was said to be in mint condition, and it arrived with multiple unidentifiable stains that had been sitting there for an unknown amount of time. I was not very hopeful that Sun's could get those stains out, but I had to try! They warned me it might not work, either, because of the dress color (saxe, a kind of light grey-blue). I was charged a very reasonable rate (to be honest, about half what I expected I'd pay) and they had it ready in 2 business days. To my delight, they managed to remove every single stain without damaging the color at all. It looks brand new (and smells clean now, thankfully) and I couldn't be happier. Future dry cleaning and alteration needs will definitely be brought here, and I recommend Sun's to everyone. read more

I had to have a wedding dress taken up in the shoulders. I picked the dress up and the hole where the arms are was sown so small that I had to squeeze in it and it made my arms look huge and was squeezing me. I told her It was too tight and that I needed it loosened. Needless to say, she didn't fix it and my wedding is in 2 days. I was charged 135.00 for one alteration and she said she added a pressing and dry cleaning on a brand-new dress that I didn't ask her to do which was why it cost that much. I will not be returning, and this was my first and last time there. The alteration cost more than the dress and so I'm extra pissed. read more

My jeans were beginning to show wear so I purchased 3 new pair, 1 Amazon Essentials, 2 Levi 511s. in ordering the correct waist size 32" and the length 30", they always come much longer in the pant length than my 5'9" frame needs. I'm new to the Roanoke so I searched for a cleaner's alteration business to shorten them. I called Sun Cleaners on October 19 th and Kim said she could do the work. I took my jeans to Sun Cleaners on October 20. Kim had me try on the Amazon pair and 1 of the Levi's. She ask me where I wanted the trouser bottom to touch my shoe and marked it. Then she said they would be ready for pick up on October 23. On the 23rd, I picked up all three and they fit and look perfect. I have one of the Levis on now. The workman ship is flawless. Trousers appear to be factory made that length. I now have a very talented seamstress should I need alterations of any kind in the future. I paid $113.00 for hems on 3 dresses with 1 taken up just a smidge at the shoulders. I will have to take them to someone who knows what they are doing. The pants and tank alterations had to be re-done. Do not spend the money. read more

I brought my back pack in to replace the zipper that my dog had chewed on. I dropped it off on a Friday and it was done by the following Friday. Fast service and saved me from buying a brand new back pack. I will add that my back pack was a brand new Jansport when my dog chewed on it.
