My mother truly enjoyed activities from outings to playing bridge almost every day and more. She bonded with many there through fires, Covid and Increasing age. During these challenging times I saw the staff really step up and be there for the residents. I am forever grateful for the care Cogir gave my mother and for making the last years of her life full of friendship, health and enjoyment.

There are a few reasons for that regret, but here are the two main ones: 1. Out of the blue, without any notice or prior discussion, Cogir raised Mom's care cost sky high. There was no apparent reason for this hike and no explanations were given. Just an email stating the new amount was "due immediately ". 2. When seeking clarification or reasoning behind such huge cost increases, phone call after phone call, email after email were totally ignored by the management team. Day after day after day every message was disregarded. The first time this happened they ignored me for 7 days. The second time, it took them 6 days to finally respond. I found this "increase-then-ignore " style of management very stressful and extremely frustrating to deal with. Neither is a quality I seek in a management team. Especially one entrusted to my mother's care. I happily gave notice and left as soon as possible.

Everyone is very kind and dedicated--the front desk staff, the caregivers, the chefs, activities director, maintenance and the office staff. The location and community are absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. The social/activity calendar is always filled with fun and different opportunities. If I could, I would like to live there (I'm 53). My parents are in the assisted living option for help with medication management, mobility, and hygiene/incontinence assistance. My mother was accustomed to living independently till she was 94 and we realized she needed some back up in an easy living situation. Her apartment at Cogir is lovely, spacious, terrace, fully appointed and a terrific bathroom for her increasing safety needs. The facility has the feel of a boutique hotel with an relaxing inner courtyard, a dining room with the feel of a cruise ship, library with a fireplace my mother enjoys reading and a gathering spot for happy hours and live music. The food is very good, prepared with care and flair, emphasis on freshness and lots of choice. Way above institutional fare, takes advantage of Sonoma high food standards while catering to many dietary preferences. The staff deserves extra cheers for adaptation to the pandemic, keeping everyone ok, delivering meals and gradually re-introducing activities as safety allowed. Early adoption to safety protocol has been very effective. There has not been a single case of Covid and many people were able to see their families in the courtyard, avoiding some of the extra restrictions. The Cogir atmosphere is positive, the staff works very hard to decorate for every possible holiday and a big banner hangs on the front door that says "Heroes Work Here" and it is true. Most important my mother is happy, feels the pleasure of her own apartment and enjoys the community activities. Her needs have increased and the staff is involved and responsive. Our only criticism is that someone complained about the lovely person on housekeeping staff who was singing as she worked and she was told to stop. Even though my mother is almost deaf she misses the music, and so does her family. It was a joy to hear in the halls.

I was immediately impressed when I researched Springfield Place in Petaluma, CA. The staff went out of their way to answer questions and to provide any help needed before, during, and after the decision-making process of whether or not this was the right location for my uncle. Once he decided that this was where he wanted to be, the staff helped in every way possible to get him moved in and set up in his new home, including personally going to Kaiser's medical offices when we were having trouble getting some of the required forms signed by the doctor. Without their help to navigate Kaiser's medical system, I think we would still be waiting on those forms long after I had to return home on the East Coast. The staff had excellent covid protocols in place that made me feel like my uncle would be as safe as possible. They had a great set of documents to help me organize what was needed to move him in quickly and efficiently. Their facilities staff was helpful in hanging a few pictures that I couldn't manage. The front desk had a welcome sign up for my uncle during his entire first week there. The other residents made a point to come introduce themselves and to say hello. There was a notable mix of residents who were at various stages of care and mobility, and they were often out in the common areas talking and socializing with each other. There was a guest room that I was able to use for a couple of days to help make the transition a bit easier. The food was surprisingly good, and I'm rather picky. I was expecting cafeteria level food and was delighted to find that the food was restaurant quality....and better than a few restaurants that I went to during my stay. They have a variety of rooms layouts available, all at different costs. We went with a large studio with a large den, and we used the den as a bedroom. This apartment that we chose doesn't have a window in the bedroom/den, but it does have two large French doors that open into the living space making it feel bigger and brighter. We were able to fit a lot more furniture and "stuff" than I had imagined due to the extra closets by the bathroom. I know a lot of people are concerned about the costs of senior care facilities, but at Springfield Place we got the apartment, the assistance of the facilities team, the nursing staff, laundry assistance for towels and sheets, the front desk staff, three meals per day, heating, electricity, and community activities all within the price of the monthly payment. When you add all of that up and then add on top of it the fact that you know that your loved one is not alone and that there is someone always around to make sure they are okay.... the price seems more than reasonable. The price does increase a little depending upon the level of care that your loved one needs, but even that seems reasonable, especially after seeing how well the staff cares for those who need additional levels of care. All in all, I am very happy with the experience and am really glad that we found Springfield Place. Plus, as my uncle says "It's close to the golf course!"

My husband has had to call daily, begging and pleading them to please fill out the paperwork that they are REQUIRED to provide by the State of CA!!!! We have faxed, we have emailed, we call daily and are met with total inaction. Their lack of customer service is costing us $80 a day. It's as if they think we are made of money. It's UNBELIEVABLE. So please, think twice before boarding your oldster with these people unless you have no paperwork requirements at all, none, or you will be ignored like we are. VERY SAD AND FRUSTRATING. We have been campaigning for their State-mandated cooperation for MONTHS and we are about to file a lawsuit, at our own expense of course. So please avoid all the frustration and expense that we are experiencing and find a place run by people who give a damn about CUSTOMER SERVICE. We may have to move this frail 94 year old because of their TOTAL FAILURE to help us by performing simply as they are contracted to by the state!!! I am something of an expert on assisted living properties. If you have both parents alive into…read moretheir late 80s, you too will become an expert on this industry. My parents were living at a large senior living property on the east coast, and I was doing everything I could to make their lives better - scheduling doctor's appointments, scheduling taxis, flying back on Jet Blue's redeye, etc - but the trend was not my friend; my parents needed me. I had said multiple times that they should come out to California, and one day my father said "Maybe that makes sense." That was a year ago. It was time to do some fast - but thorough - research. The perfect facility would offer assisted living for my father, and memory care for mom. I researched aggressively, visiting Wind Chime of Marin, Aegis of Corte Madera, Aegis of San Rafael, Alma Via of San Rafael, Atria-Tamalpais Creek, Sunrise of Petaluma, and one or two others I'm forgetting. Some I visited a few times. I never called before visiting; I just showed-up. As opinionated as I am, I had difficulty ranking them best to worst. Yeah, one of the facilities made a poor impression, but any property can have a bad day. It's hard to measure what really matters - the care they provide. Actually cost was also hard to measure. Some properties have a non-refundable buy-in payment; others have monthly surcharges that are added as the resident needs more help. (I had been warned about these - a property can get very expensive very quickly.) I was down to two possibilities - Alma Via of San Rafael or Atria-Tamalpais Creek - when someone from hospice mentioned Creekwood Senior Living, in Novato. Dang - I had visited the property just across the street, but not even noticed Creekwood. So I drove back up to Novato, and did my surprise drop-in. Here's what was different: almost all the residents were out in Creekwood's common area when I walked in the door. At all the other properties I visited, it seemed to be just the healthy seniors that I saw in the common areas. So where were the unhealthy ones? There seem to be two possibilities: they were left in their rooms, or they had been asked to move-out, since they were no longer profitable, and/or didn't help the property's image. Remember, the trend is not our friend. You don't want your loved one left in his/her room, or asked to move, as his/her needs increase. And you don't want to go broke, if the property's angle is to add fees for every nuance of care. If you/your loved one is still active, choose one of the properties packed with healthy seniors that you can play tennis with. But if you/your loved one needs care, make sure to visit Creekwood. When you evaluate any property I recommend looking for: * fair, no-surprises pricing * single-level properties (waiting for elevators is a drag) * big, active common areas * plenty of parking (It makes it easier to visit, knowing that you will never have to hunt for parking!) I moved my parents to Creekwood in late November, 2012. I've visited there... jeez - scores of times. I have no regrets; it's the best decision I've made in a long long time. I only wish that I got my parents out here earlier...

Over the years, I've observed them treat all of the residents there so well and with respect. It is my belief that this type of corporate culture starts at the top in the memory care and that is Karina. Karina is a strong yet compassionate leader. She is knowledgeable, she integrates herself with the community, she is part of the team, the family. She allowed me to trust her and her team completely with my mom whom I loved deeply. That was a gift to me. It comforted me during an extremely difficult period. The care team puts their heart into their work. They are all unique and the residents love them. Like Karina, they provide compassionate care, they endure much from the residents yet never take it personally. They know how to interact with them to make their days brighter, such as dance parties where they participate with the residents, outings, fiestas, games and fun exercise programs. They encourage participation and I've witnessed residents who were having difficulty one moment then laughing and bonding with others another because of the team's encouragement. They always meet the residents where they are at the moment. This is a skill. As I know too well, it's not all fun and games. When my mom took a turn for the worst, Karina and the care team not only managed my mom's care at a more experienced level than I anticipated, they helped me with the quickly evolving changes. Frankly, it blew my mind how well equipped they all were at handling the changes; both physically and medically. I will always be grateful to the Calligraphy team.

Sandpiper was always clean, bright, and immaculate. The food was excellent (I had some - who would have thought that cabbage soup would taste good?) I used to push Mom on her wheel chair to the park adjoining the home, to the Foster City levy under San Mateo bridge for sunset views of San Francisco, and even to her dentist and orthopedist - all within a 10 minute walk (near Hillbarn Theatre - so sorry she was unable to attend their shows - my loss! The staff took care of what had been a major chore - getting and administering a multiple of pills; a local pharmacy delivered all prescriptions and Costco is nearby for all bulk purchases. As Mom's memory, mobility and ability to talk decreased, she required increased care - incontinence, feeding, turning her body every 15 minutes. Not once did any of the staff complain, or Sandpiper's owner: Sapphire is an extraordinary lady - competent, kind, flexible, and concerned. She took care of all arrangements and ongoing management of hospice care. Her staff is more than competent - they love their work, and love the people they care for. It is difficult to conceive a more lovely, love-filled, wonder-full place for Mom's care. Note: Sapphire also owns and manages Holland House in San Mateo.

Ruby made it a point to develop a warm and joyful rapport with her. My mother said that out of all the places I could've chosen, this was the one. Ruby and the staff addressed her needs from the time she entered and was able to transfer from her wheelchair until she was totally bed-bound. The atmosphere was homey with smells of cooking and cheerful attitudes of the caregivers. Ruby or Chris, her husband, would promptly answer all my questions, either in person or by text or email, even when they were out of town. They and the staff were very conscientious about procedures and medication administration. They communicated well with physicians, home health nurses, therapists, and clergy. I felt that my precious mother was in good hands and never worried about her care. There is a special place in my heart for all they did for my mother and I will be forever grateful. I highly recommend Sonoma Oak Tree Place Board and Care.

The manager at the time was a very friendly, helpful man whom I don't think is there anymore. The initial review does bring up legitimate concerns about housekeepers&dietary aides doing work outside their sphere of training. While I did witness that a few times, most of the time, they simply made sure my friend was clothed, fed, and had a clean environment. He was able to live as independently as he could, until his Alzheimer's was so debilitating he was moved to another facility in Arizona. Aegis is clean&appealing. They have a friendly, personable, attentive staff. While it has its shortcomings (all facilities do), the positives outweigh the negatives. The parking lot is kind of small, but one can park on side streets. Very pleasant.

I have never written a yelp review for a facility that I visit. I've seen this facility go through management changes some of which were not ideal. But I can say with total confidence that I would trust the current management of Carla and Alexis with my loved ones should they need the kind of care offered there. I don't encounter many caregivers who truly care about their residents and facilities that are compliant with state regulations, of which, Vine Ridge excels in both. I have quite literally felt the energy of this facility change for the better when Carla became the executive director. They care for their residents like they are family.
