I was desperate to find a place I could drop off a black suit to be ready for a family funeral. The…read morefuneral would require some unalterable travel, therefore, an exact time existed for which it had to be ready on an upcoming Monday. It was already later on a Saturday afternoon in July 2020 when the virus was rising and affecting businesses differently, making it essential to make real, old-fashioned phone calls. It was my only option, other than driving around everywhere, or depending on oft-erroneous times posted online, to suss out hours of operation during this devastating time. I called four other dry cleaning establishments in the Rochester Hills area before I landed at this GEM of a business. That Saturday, I walked in the Martinizing location, not calling the fifth establishment of the day, because I happened to be running errands right near the place. They had an "open" sign, clearly visible. The woman who greeted me, and I will return to find out her name, made me feel calm and relaxed and cared about. I have no idea how she did it, because I gave her little information to go on, but she took the facts I did give her and from that, made me feel warm. That's the most important part of this, besides that the place was COVID-19 regulation complaint. It was a pleasant surprise after having researched four other places for dry cleaning that afternoon, that they were the first to have regular Sunday hours. Additionally, they were open until 7PM Monday, which was helpful and accommodating to my schedule. The man who assisted me at pick up had a similar professionalism that the woman possessed, and adjusted to my level of friendliness and talkative, or not-so-talkative, nature and moods. Impeccable manners. I noticed and appreciated this. The reason I am writing this review though, and investing my time and energy to do this as a single mom of two teenagers, is because the woman with whom I dropped the suit off on Saturday, responded to my situation with the funeral when I brought up COVID-19, and she opened up with information about losses that other local business people nearby had experienced. She was sensitive to my situation, and simultaneously, not overly emotional. She was genuine and cared about the community in general and the business community around her. Nothing about the exchange was political. She was a good human being. It showed. She had restraint and when I opened up, she did just enough. It shined because she had a heart for this community. I hope she sees this because it's wonderful to have renewed faith in humankind when you come across genuine caring, not just some social media like or dopamine hit off a heart icon. The dry cleaning was perfect. I wish I had photos, but it was for a funeral and so it wasn't that kind of an event. I will exclusively maintain my dry cleaning at this location in Rochester Hills.

It has taken me a very long time to write this review, and if you follow me you know I rarely leave…read morebad reviews but what happened to me is so completely unacceptable that I have to so it doesn't happen to others. For 12 years I have used this dry cleaner usually to clean my coats, I don't have many things that require dry cleaning. A few months ago I took my living room curtains in to be cleaned. They are satin with embroidery, and cotton lined, nothing too special, not insulated drapes. When I went to pick them up they wanted a fortune. I complained about the price and he did reduce the price a little to $79, way too much to clean those curtains. I get them home and hang them. I noticed immediately that they aren't pressed well but decided that the satin likely required a lower iron temperature and may have been difficult to iron. I was rationalizing, I know, but giving them the benefit of the doubt I hoped with a little time they would be flat again. Later that evening I sat down and noticed that the bottom edges of my curtains were not equal, and they no longer touched the floor. Again I rationalized that they needed to hang and the wrinkles would fall out and all would be good. Unfortunately that never happened. I finally couldn't stand looking at them any longer and replaced them. But even this expensive mistake that most would give a one star review for is not why I am writing this. After having thoroughly rationalized that the wrinkled, shrunken curtains must have somehow caused their own demise, I returned with a coat to be cleaned. They had after all done a marvelous job on my down parka 3 times this season. The coat that I brought in was an LL Bean wool pea coat with thinsulate, not a cheap coat. I noticed that in several places the lining had torn and asked if they could repair the tears. They stated that they could but would need to contact the seamstress for a quote. Within the hour they called to let me know that the repairs would be $15 and asked if I wanted to proceed and I did. The reply was It will be ready on Tuesday. Great! $15 was an expensive repair price, but I love the coat and didn't want to make the repairs myself. On Tuesday I go to pick up my coat and I look at the repairs made and I am immediately disappointed in the quality of the stitching, then I noticed that they have tagged several holes that were not repaired. The seamstress did not use the proper method to make the repairs, instead, from the outside of the lining the repairs were made with poor quality hand stitching that looks to be sewn by a beginner, not a professional. I did, however, request that the remainder of the holes be repaired. They apologized, said it would be taken care of, and ready on Tuesday. We returned to pickup the coat, I was on a call so my husband went in. He looked at the lining and still all the holes were not repaired...see you Tuesday. I didn't go on Tuesday, it was several days before I returned and they actually called me to tell me that the coat was ready, which is something they have never done before. I thought the phone call was odd but rationalized that they were trying to make me happy after screwing up so many times. A few days later I did return to pick up the coat. I opened it there to check the repairs and found holes. The young lady behind the counter was exasperated, and took the coat back, it will be ready on Tuesday. I controlled my temper, hoping that finally they would get it right this time. I was out running errands and received a phone call from the young lady saying they weren't going to make the repairs. She stated that they had tried to make the repairs and that I wasn't ever satisfied. Now mind you, not once did I complain, I only pointed out the holes that had not been repaired. It was the owner's contention that I had only paid to have "some of the holes repaired." I asked him which holes I had paid to have repaired and which ones I hadn't, he simply shrugged his shoulders. He said he had to pay the seamstress every time I sent the coat back and he wasn't making any money because I had refused the coat 4 times. At that point I asked him why he kept paying for an incomplete job. Again he shrugged his shoulders. The conversation deteriorated and he said he didn't know who I had spoken to originally but... I interrupted him at that point and pointed to him and the young lady and said "I have only dealt with the two of you, no one else." Again he shrugged his shoulders. What amazed me the most is that he tried to present illogical arguments for a job that never got completed, the job is either complete or it isn't. In this case the job was never completed. I never took possession of the coat the entire time and he tried to act like it was somehow my fault that the job wasn't completed and that somehow I was being unreasonable by expecting them to complete the job. I am still baffled by the entire ordeal and am looking for a dry cleaner in the area.

This particular trip, I had a small load of items to use since we had a small pipe leak in the laundry room which just ended up being a leaky faucet. Anyway, I've been to a few laundromats in my day, and they can get pretty ugly and gross. This one is really super nice, clean and affordable. Everything is in good working order. They have plenty of washing machines both double and triple loaders, along with an entire wall of dryers. The double loader washing machines are reasonably priced at about $2.25 I think? They look brand new too. The triple loaders are about $2.75 to wash and do a pretty good job. Their clean, don't smell and each load runs about 30 minutes long. Dryers are plentiful at 25 cents for 8 minutes. They also have a really nice change machine built into the wall with two slots for bills. I think it goes up to $20 for change to use in the machines. I also like that they have detergent, dryer sheets, Oxy clean and a few other incidentals for sale in a vending machine in case you need extra supplies. I think it's a dollar a box, which isn't bad. There's also a few folding tables with a couple metal carts to move your laundry around from machine to machine or to a table to fold. Plenty of garbage cans and the place is always clean. The only downside is I never see an attendant here, like ever. So, if money gets stuck in the machine, I think you have to call a phone #. I wish they had a human here for sure. Overall, a nice laundromat with plenty of space to move around, clean and in good working order. I will be back in the future!
