Flew down to Florida from Wisconsin to get my ASES in their DeHavilland Beaver. After about 5 hours…read moreof flying I had my new rating. Mike was a great instructor and Tripp was a great DPE. It is was a very casual yet professional experience which kept it low-stress. I am a relatively new pilot so was a bit apprehensive about doing this rating in the Beaver, but Tripp assured me that they have experience with low-time pilots and he didn't lie. If I am ever in the area again I would stop back just for a hangar chat anytime.

Overall I was not impressed and would not recommend Ryan Aviation. The main reason I took the…read morecourse with them was to learn to fly the Beaver DHC-2. At the end of the course I got few hours in the plane logged but cannot say I became proficient in it. One thing I did like a lot about them was the aircraft! They have beautiful and very well maintained airplanes. I flew the Beaver but they also had a nice amphibious Husky which I didn't fly. If I rated them based on this factor alone it would be solid 5*. The instruction was ok, not great. Water takeoffs, landings and taxi was covered, but I wish it wasn't as superficial. The bigger problem in my opinion is inadequate curriculum. The instructor tried to jam everything into 4 hours and of course it all was way too rushed. I've never seen the POH/AIM for the aircraft even though I asked for it multiple times. (By the way the explanation I received was it's because the airplane is so heavily STC'd that I wouldn't be able to understand the POH. I am an active CFI, commercial pilot, and instructor pilot with US Air Force CAP.) There's was no airwork done, not even the slow flight. Again I asked the owner about it and he argued that doing airwork would make it hard for him to compete with other schools that offer similar 2-days programs and since I'm not going to solo their aircraft why spend time on it. And speaking of 2 days, if you are a visiting pilot and want to take the 2 day course I suggest you plan to stay there at least for a week. The local weather patterns are bizarre, every morning there was a dense fog, thunderstorms in the afternoon. Obviously it's not Ryan Aviation's fault in any way but something to consider when planning your trip. Bottom line. I would give 5* for the equipment and maintenance, 3* for instruction, 1* for the training program. I will probably look for another school next time I fly seaplanes.

DO NOT GO HERE! Shady practices all around. 1) Refusal to…read moregive you an itemized bill for what you actually flew (i.e. no receipt with itemized charges, so you have no recourse). 2) No set rates for aircraft, you "negotiate" ahead of time. 3) Policy of extremely high cancellation fees that are not in Rental Agreement (no other flight school in the area, if anywhere, poses such policies). 4) Poor maintenance of aircraft that are shared with a flying club. Good luck getting the airplane scheduled when there's many other general aviation pilots wanting to use the aircraft for themselves. 5) Very little transparency or discussion of what's going on with your program. "The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing." If it weren't for #1, I'd be disputing my bill with the credit card company and local police. Be warned.

Worst flight school I have been to. Paid 5k for my Cfi training and j was promised to have that…read moredone in 1 month. I was there every day and the after a week the instructor and the owner of the company left to CA. He told us that he would be back in two weeks and didn't come back for 3 months. Also the training was suppose to be 10 hrs of 172 and 5 hours of arrow, that changed after a while. That guy is a crook and he just care about making money. Doesn't care about customers at all. I didn't receive any ground training. The only service that I received was the flight hours and that was worth 1500 dollars. Rest of the money he just eat it up. He will tell you that he charges set fee and that includes unlined ground. But you won't receive any ground training. I was the only one. I had two other guys that were with me and he ripped us all off. Please go some where else. Captain Malik is a very dishonest person.
