The store is large but not gigantic and, more importantly, seems logically laid out. Costco seems disorganized and as large as an airport terminal. Sam's feels friendly while Costco seems very institutional to us. Sam's gasoline is fine but Costco definitely has a larger and more convenient station but virtually everything else is better at Sam's. The baked goods section is gigantic and brimming with delicious things; I swear we gain five pounds just walking through the bakery and smelling. The people working at Sam's also seem very personable. It's difficult to draw direct price comparisons but we feel like prices are higher at Costco than at Sam's. Several years ago, I had Sam's install tires on one of my cars and I was impressed with the service and the price-match policy they offered. Finally, and this is very informal and subjective but the Sam's Club pizza and hot dogs at the cafe are way, way better than Costco offerings and the seating area is larger and more comfortable.
