This is really more of a gas station, and not so much of a convenience store. In between two…read moreclusters of six pumps each, there is a building the size of a single-car garage, but customers can't go inside. All business is transacted through a drawer, while the customer stands outside. You can get basic items like cigarettes, soda and snacks; the clerk inside will retrieve them and put them in the drawer (after you put your money in drawer first, of course). I stopped there this afternoon just to get a can of Coke and a Snickers bar. I parked my work truck in one of the spaces in the back of the amply-sized lot and baked in the sun while I ate my lunch ... this is the city, folks, and there are no shade trees, nor even a shrub, flower or blade of grass - just asphalt. Another thing that stood out was the number of hand-made signs taped to the cashier's window, and the rather unusual nature of those signs, which were indicative of a local populace that, as one might say, "don't know how to act". Understandably, signs indicate that they don't accept $50 or $100 bills, but as if to hammer the point home for some people who try to bend the rules, the sign begins with the rather blunt statement, "We are not a bank ..." Another, rather unusual, sign states that "You will not be be served if you push or pull on the drawer," and it even had stick-figure pictures drawn on it for those who don't understand English. Apparently, some of the locals have gotten a bit restless and tried to rattle the clerk, who is supposed to be the one in control of the retractable drawer, dammit. Yet another strange sign says they will not accept money that has been stored in undergarments ... based on that sign, I'm inferring that some of their would-be patrons must not own wallets or purses, and simply stuff wads of bills in their bras or underwear (the male underwear probably sagged, no less). Despite the stern signage, the female clerk on duty was polite. The gas station is located at the busy intersection at routes 122 and 15 (Londsale Avenue and Mineral Spring Avenue, respectively), so getting in and out can be tricky. I only stopped here because it was in the direction I was traveling, plus, I wanted to be the first Yelper to review them.
