Once upon a time, this place was a beacon for the weary traveler: cheap gas, hot coffee, the promise of a Subway sandwich assembled by human hands. Now it is merely a stage where apathy performs its endless matinee. The gas attendant, tethered to his phone like a life-support machine for boredom, filled my tank without once acknowledging that I too was a living creature. In New Jersey, where we are not trusted to pump our own gas, this adds insult to injury. Inside, the atmosphere was that of a small-town post office at closing time, with fluorescent lights buzzing like anxious bees over a clerk who looked as if enthusiasm had been outlawed. My coffee was sold with the sort of resigned detachment one might expect from a mortician. The Subway counter stood empty, a ghost kitchen in the most literal sense, with no artist to craft a footlong, only the echo of long-gone lunch breaks. And then, the restroom. Ah, the restroom. To call it "acceptable" would be to commit a crime against adjectives. It served its function, I suppose, in the way that a leaky umbrella still technically keeps the rain off one's head. Still, it is what it is: a place to refuel, refill, and reconsider your life choices. You can get food. You can get gas. You can use the facilities. But you will not get joy, nor even a smile.

Wawa coffee is outstanding. Hazelnut is my favorite of the regular flavors, but the regular, decaf, Holiday Blend--when in season--and other seasonal coffees are always great. On occasion, I have also purchased gasoline and ordered sandwiches here. On this particular Sunday, I was heading home to Raleigh, North Carolina, where the nearest Wawa is more than an hour away. Naturally, I had to get some Wawa coffee for both the drive and home. My usual routine is to park and head directly to the men's room. For a busy convenience store, it was clean and well maintained. I grabbed a bottle of alkaline Smartwater and headed to the coffee area. They had a cinnamon-flavored coffee, which I enjoyed with half-and-half. The coffee dispensers were all full, and the island with the cups, sleeves, creamers, and milk was extremely well maintained. The beverage associate was clearly on top of everything. I also picked up a bag of ground Hazelnut coffee to take home. The retail coffee area was well stocked with bags and K-Cup boxes of Regular, Decaf, Colombian, and Hazelnut coffee. I checked out at the counter, and the clerk was very nice. This is a consistently pleasant--and consistently busy--Wawa. It is conveniently located just off I-295 at the end the New Jersey Turnpike at Route 49, making it an excellent final stop before crossing the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

I ended up in the ER with diarrhea, severe vomiting and uterine cramping. I couldn't keep food down for two days and lost my appetite for four more days after that. The way Wawa handled this was appalling: Destruction of Evidence: I told Catherine C (Customer Relations) I planned to contact a lawyer that I know who could have the food tested for further contamination. She insisted I return it to the store for 'internal testing.' I complied. The store manager, Nambia at the time offered me $6.99 to resolve the issue. I later found out that Wawa's Corporate team contacted the store and instructed them to discard the salad. Dismissive Corporate Response: Michelle Chapman (Michelle.chapman@helmsmantpa.com) has been completely dismissive of my trauma. She passed the blame to their supplier, Taylor Farms and did not provide any further resolution beyond $6.99. Wawa tricked me into giving back the evidence, destroyed it, and now refuses to take accountability. Take caution if you eat at this Wawa. Side note: I have been going to wawa faithfully since I was a child...sometimes 10+ times a month, which my wawa app will reflect. The way the store manager and corporate handled this is disappointing to say the least.

A-Plus was the only spot with deals, they had gas station hot dogs for $3 so two costs 1/3 of Nathans and despite the quality difference...Nathan's isn't worth $12 more. Restrooms were clean and spacious and they had a water bottle filling station. Plenty of tables to spread out and eat. This was in NJ so of course they have to pump your gas but they have a hard time offering this service to people on motorcycles. Just tell the attendant that if he gets gas on your paint he's washing it too haha.
