The prices are absolutely outrageous. I got a single hem on a dress and was charged $92. The prices change every time I go.

I would definitely not recommend anyone to go there. She's such a rip off!! I went to just get a hem that's $45 but she charges $75. and i got a bill for $140.I asked her why it's so high when the rest of the bridesmaids dresses only costed them $45 and she goes to tell me i needed a hook and my material was too much to take off.I've asked her when i dropped it off how much was it going to be and she told me she didn't know and i should have known that was a red flag but i needed it done 5 days before my sisters wedding and she was the only one that could do it. My mom only needed a hem and she added a hook that was $5 more so her dress came out to $118. I was going back n forth with her telling her she's a rip off and she'll NEVER IN LIFE get my business EVER again!! I sat in her parking lot fa 30 minutes otp with the bride(my sister)and she's telling me that was entirely too much she definitely ripped me off. But if you guys don't want your dress too big or messed up because she also cut my train a lil too short‍.Please don't go there!!! read more

I would stay away from this place if you want to avoid a con artist who will never tell you the correct price you're going to pay. She likes to tell you how to get YOUR clothes fitted and charges extra for her mistakes. Just a joke of a place and would never recommend going there unless you want to be ripped off. read more

I've used SunOak Tailors for at least the past 8 years, and I've never had a single issue with their service or work. They've cut down jackets and formal dresses for me (practically remaking them in order to fit me), done small alterations, such as hemming pants and skirts, or taking up a shirt in the shoulder... They've done work for my family, friends, and my fiance as well. No complaints. I'm constantly surprised at the negative reviews that I see them receive, because it never fits with the experience that I have. They are so rude and terrible!! This is my 4th time coming here and the lady is so expensive!! She demanded that I put down a $50 deposit on a $100 alteration. When I expressed that I would rather pay when I picked up the items, as I have done the last 3 times, she told me she would not alter my items anymore and demanded her very rude assistant to take pins out of my items. Upon my first visit when I dropped off my dress I was told it would be $90, when I came back to pick up my dress the price went up to $125. Their excuse: when they gave me the first price it was only covering the hem. Despite the fact that they knew what needed to be done to the dress and what type of material it was they still were incapable of giving me an accurate price. If you choose this place to do any work for you I recommend getting an accurate price on that initial visit to avoid any surprises when you pick up. Good luck. read more

This place will OVER charge you! I brought a dress to get hemmed and got it back completely wrinkled and uneven at the bottom. She charged over $70 because she said it had so much material. I highly do not recommend this place. read more

Moved from California and needed a tailor for my wedding dress. Got a bunch of random recommendations but 2-3 people mentioned sunoak. Read reviews and was hesitant but when you don't have any other reference to go off of, you just take a chance cause you have to do it somewhere. Bring my dress in 5 weeks before my wedding, told me I have plenty of time. First mistake, telling them my actual wedding date, you should tell her a week or two before the actual date is the date, unless you're one of those brides who likes to be stressed about their dress not being done days before their wedding. She tells me to come back 2 weeks before the wedding for the fitting. Then when I call a few days before to say I'm coming in when she told Me, she asks me to come in the following Monday instead. So then I go in and she tells me that the straps I asked her to make needed additional fabric and I needed to go buy it. I don't mind going buy it, I do mind not being told sooner than 11 days before my wedding that she needs me to buy it when she's been having my dress for 3+ weeks and knew I needed to get it. I asked her why she didn't tell me she needed it by calling me, she said she was worried I wouldn't understand due to a possible language barrier, trust me, I would have gladly come in sooner to understand what she needed than to wait this late for her to tell me. So I get the extra fabric and she tells me at this point it's already going to cost me $170 for the dress to be taken in, bustle and straps to be shortened. Making sure to tell me how much work it all takes. So then I asked her to call me when she finished one of the straps because I wanted to make sure I liked it before she did them both. She doesn't call all week so come Friday I call her asking if one of them is done (8 days before my wedding) she tells me she will have it ready Saturday, but I was not going to be in town that day to see it so she tells me I can come in Monday (5 days before my wedding) and that she will finish it Monday night if I come in Monday morning. Go in Monday morning with my sister, she has the straps, they look good, then she asks me if I can pick it up Thursday, I told her the latest was Wednesday morning. I pick it up today. Take it home because I didn't change anything about the fit since the last time I tried it on. Put it on at home and realize the straps in the front are not identical, she cut off one of the petals of the appliqué and I guess got too lazy to fix it. I also found multiple loops in the straps and some black thread sewn in. Overall got charged $263, of which she only accepts local checks or cash, most people that do this do not charge tax, but she does. I don't mind paying for quality but the straps were rushed work obviously and I'm too tired of going back and forth to go back and have her try to fix it, not to mention, my wedding is in 3 days, and I don't really have the time anyways. I don't plan on going back, but I also don't plan on ever having to have this experience again. read more

Get ready to get ripped off. I brought a $20 dress there for a hem and to get straps adjusted. The tailor didn't say anything about price, or mention any reason it would cost more than a usual alteration job. I called ahead of time to ask what methods of payment they took: cash or check is all she said. So I go to pick up this dress, and she slaps me with a bill for $150, $75 just for the hem alone, and she didn't even have to hem a lining- it was a single layer! When I asked why it was so much, she just said it was because she "is good at what she does." This dress (though very cheap), was a bridesmaids dress for a friend's wedding, so there were 5 identical dresses all getting tailored, and most girls paid about $45 for all the same alterations I needed. I was so stunned I started filling out the check, then she won't take it because it's a New Orleans address (I had JUST moved here, less than two weeks before this). It was from a local bank, where my husband works, and she still would not take it because it was an "out of town check." She had never mentioned this "rule," and would not even let me try the dress on to make sure it fit. So my husband had to go at lunch to pick it up and pay cash. When I finally tried it on, it still didn't fit, and I had to fix the rest myself. I would NEVER EVER recommend this place to anyone. They are rude, do shoddy work, and then rip you off on the price. read more
