I don't write many 4 or 5 star reviews unless I feel strongly about them. Same with 1 star. Places earning either extreme must tap into an emotion. 1 star and 5 star reviews should make the reader seem skeptical. All being said- they do occur, but must be taken in context. Reviewers with 1 review should also raise a red flag- these reviews are usually written under the influence of strong emotion- and while they may be informative- a well-versed yelpers opine should be valued higher as they can better scope the situation in terms of ranking. OK, enough explanations- Basically I had a great experience with Dr. Yapport. I've been to plenty of other dentists and specialists in NYC and can say that Dr. Yapport was one of the best. I went in 3 weeks ago for what I thought was a cavity and it turned out to be a root canal (that I'd had done/ messed up before by another office), and I was in and out in quickly and with minimal pain. The front desk receptionist Vicky is the rudest individual she always seems so bothered and is continuously sighing and being very unhelpful. She has a rude tone and definitely is not a reflection of the sweet demeanor of the actual dentist. They should 100% think of hiring better people. She answers the phone when you're right in front of her asking questions, she will help someone via phone whilst she's helping you, she says snarky comments & it's all in all 0/10. read more

I am so grateful for Dr Tatyana and her staff. I had my veneers done in another country and whilst eating some berries my front tooth lifted. My regular dentist started poking and prodding around because there was still cement on the tooth and I felt my dentist was almost trying to ruin my tooth so they would have to make a new veneer! I came to sunnyside dental with no appointment after a referral from a friend. Dr took me in and examined and recemented IMMEDIATELY. Overview: long waits, rushed treatment, no explanations given. Wait: 40 minutes Cleaning: Hygienist gets water in your eyes and it feels like proper care is not being taken. Recommended for deep cleaning without any explanation (it seemed to be standard procedure). Doctor Visit: Made appointment and asked specifically that there would be time to do filings, but doctor had no time to do anything, except read x-rays and make a treatment plan. Was not given a diagnosis (even the basics like how many cavities) expect come back next year to get a full treatment plan. Check out: Doctor did not have time to communicate properly with staff about next steps for patients, and a lot of confusion ensued with other patients. Follow up: Receive calls that they lost my insurance information. They never identify who they are on the phone. I am not sure if this is a symptom of the medical industry as a whole being overbooked with patients or what but I can't see myself going back as I did not feel taken care of. I did trust what the doctor was saying, but did not feel an investment in my care. I think this place is a great budget place based on other reviews, but the disorganization and perceived quality of care received by the hygienist is too concerning to me to considering getting further treatment there. read more

I hate going to the dentist, because like with a car mechanic they can tell you need this and that, when in fact, there could be other (better) alternatives. It's hard to find a honest dentist that won't try to squeeze every possible penny out of your insurance. Unfortunaly, I felt like this place was not different. the clean up I got here was so rushed, it's probably one of the worst cleanings I have ever received. what's worse is that they don't care about you getting splashed with water all over your face and clothes. At the end of the day they change theirs, so it doesn't matter for them. Anyway, according to the dentist, my tooth had a cavity that needed a root canal and a crown. to which I said, "are you asbolutely sure about that? I'm trying to avoid unnecessary procedures', she wasn't happy with my questions and proceeded to quickly explain the reasons. so I said to myself, what do I know about dentristry? after all she's the expert. so I went ahead with the suggested procedure. To my surprise, 3 other patients that day were there were getting the exact same procedure; Root canal + crown. I guess that's one of the fastest and most profitable procedures a small dental office can do to bring in the money, so apparently that's what most people that go here are 'diagnosed' with the day I went to get my root canal, the dentist was scrubbing the open cavity inside my root canal, when all of the sudden she got a call on her cell phone. I assumed she would just ignore it, but no, She took out her phone and proceeded to have a conversation in Russian, while I had a metal tool inserted in my tooth. doesn't this lady know that phones are ridden with bacteria and germs??? not to mention, it's outright rude to take a call while you're working on someone's mouth. not even my hairdresser takes a call while cutting my hair, but this person who's supposed to be educated does. that was so unprofessional, I felt like I was in the dental office of a pseudo-practioner in a small village in backwaters of the soviet union. needless to say, I won't be going back... read more

I needed to fix a veneer and called several dentists in Sunnyside. I was quoted up to $200, everyone tried to get as much money as possible out of me (x-ray, consultation and so on). The Sunnyside dental quoted $65 and did a perfect job, very professional and clean, very friendly receptionist, assistant and dentist. I was certainly happy with the treatment. read more

Be AWARE! Dr. Rimma provide very poor service, no patient education, is in it for the quick insurance cash and is pretty much looking to get you in and out as fast as she can. I was provided a 9 minute cleaning that was the worst. She literally, looked at me wanted me to come back for fillings and cleaning. Her sales pitch did not work, it proved to show she was very unprofessional. A 9 minute cleaning she said was due to the fact my teeth are just okay. Strange, because she just told me 2 minutes ago I need to come back for fillings. DO NOT GO HERE. Terrible experience here, they kept cancelling my appointments or would schedule me on a day the office was closed with no notice or follow-up. After my check-up they said my teeth were fine and I could leave but I asked them to check again and they found major issues that they didn't originally xray for. Best general dentist!! Caring, supportive, she shows me my x-rays and explains what she is seeing in my teeth and gums so that I understand what is happening. I get a lot of root canals, when Dr. Yapport has to use anaesthesia, it's always pain free. And she is very patient and supportive during the process. Told me x ray is free on the phone then they want to charge me $100 for, starts cleaning my teeth without even asking me, making it seem like it's part of the initial visit, doesn't ask me not once what is the reason I'm there. Takes bunch of x rays to tell me I have a small cavity and then runs back in to tell me that I don't have cavity. Needless to say I'm out of $50 for a cleaning I never needed and problem of a chipped filling that was addressed after my persistence but not taken care of. The most rushed consultation while I was in pain. I need a lot of dental work and had wisdom tooth pain that I needed help with. I explained this when I made the appointment. First, they should have explained that they actually don't do extractions - I would have gone to someone else! secondly, the doctor pried my mouth open, shouted to her assistant that most of my teeth needed root canals, capping, etc. DID NOT answer any questions I had or let me speak. I have ALWAYS been terrified of dentists and she made the experience traumatizingl I came home and cried after my 20 minute rushed evaluation and still in pain. I got a prescription for Advil and antibiotics, which I am already taking but she wouldn't let me explain that and was rushed out the door with referrals to other doctors. And no, they didn't explain ANYTHING to me about it. I have no words for how devastating this experience was. I need to now find real help from someone who actually cares about patients. If you have a fear of dentists, please spare yourself the grief of seeing this doctor. read more

I went for my first appointment at Sunnyside Dental yesterday. I really don't understand why the other two reviewers had such a problem with this place, I had no problem what-so-ever. I unfortunetely was 15 minutes+ late to my appointment due to traffic but the receptionist had no problem with it. After filling out my paperwork, I was taken in for my cleaning in minutes. All of the women I encountered (reception, X-ray woman, dentist) were very nice and quick. Its a no fuss operation who's goal is to get you out of there as quickly as possible and not charge you for more work than your insurance covers. I tried to give them a fighting chance but three strikes and you're out, mister. First time I went, they told me I had three cavities in my mouth. When I went to the dentist at NYU (pre-dental insurance, and after a long period of not having dental insurance) they told me I had six which was then confirmed by their professor, a practicing dentist, One was taken care of at NYU, which meant I had five left (this included a broken molar, see below). When I asked if she was sure, she said yes, definitely only three which made me wonder how well she checked for cavities. Second time I went was to get a back molar fixed which was broken. I sat down in the chair, expecting to get my molar fixed. As the hygienist was preparing the tools, she started taking out some tools I didn't necessarily recognize. She starts chatting and was like "So, we're doing an extraction, right?" WHAT?!?!? I told her no, it was just fixing the molar and she insisted it was an extraction, until she finally got up to look at the chart. That's a pretty big freaking mistake. I've had four extractions plus four wisdom teeth plus braces. I don't think I can afford to have anymore extraneous dental work done. Third time was minor, but when filling the last two cavities on a later date, she took no more than 5-8 minutes doing the fillings. I kind of found that to be a little fishy. When I went to see my new dentist, he confirmed that there were two more cavities in there. I also asked if it was normal to do fillings in 8 minutes or less and he said that if they're experienced, it's not uncommon. I would trust my new dentist in Manhattan to do an extraction in under 8 minutes, but this Russian lady in Sunnyside is another story. read more

I tried out this place because I had a chipped tooth, and after being in the chair for 30 seconds, they tell me that I have TMD and that I really need to meet with the oral surgeon. Um, no. I got out of there really fast and went back to my beloved dentist, who explained that 40% of the population has some form of TMD and that it isn't treated by surgery. read more

Disorganized, mess of a dental clinic that operates like the stone age. I made my appointment online through my insurance provider and they messaged me to reschedule (which means they were aware of my appointment) and I rescheduled for another day. I came on that date and the clinic was empty and this was well before their closing hours. I ended up texting the doctor and she claimed that I never had an appointment?? and after I showed her the confirmation screen she told me that they don't take online appointments?? No apology, and the doctor was rude, dismissive and her messages were incomprehensible. Why are they listed with the option to book online if it isn't possible?? Why did I receive a message to reschedule if they didn't have my appointment. Either they're lying or the staff are just that inept and can't use a computer. I was in another dental office just around the corner from this office, Maggie dental the dentist there made me feel so uncomfortable and told me I had to wait 1 month before she could treat me. I immediately left and went to Sunnyside Dental where all the staff and dentist made me feel so comfortable and treated me without having to wait. I have been a loyal patient for the pasted 3 years. I am scared to death of the dentist. My collegues recommended that I go to Dr Tatyana. She is the best. Made me feel very comfortable even though I had a fair amount of work that needed to be done. Took her time to explain and answer all of my questions. changed out some of my metal fillings and the new white replacements look amazing. I couldn't even tell which teeth she had worked on. Have since sent many of my friends and coworkers and all have had similar experiences. Highly recommend going to this dental office. I forgot to mention the receptionist Naralyn. After being traumatized for years by quack dentists who mutilated my mouth, I finally found a dentist whose skill and talent is impeccable. I have had basic exams and cleanings as well as extensive oral surgeries and never once did I feel uncomfortable - physically or mentally. Dr. Yapport and her staff (specifically Marilyn and Jonathan) are knowledgeable, patient, compassionate and always willing to go the extra mile to make your dental experience a positive one. The office is clean, the wait , if any, is minimal and you are never made to feel as thought you are "just a number" or that they are "out for your money". I simply can't with this place! I haven't even had the misfortune to deal with Dr. Yapport my doctor has been Dr. Rimma. She's never on time and honestly hasn't done anything for me and I've visited on so many occasions. Long story short I have a rare tooth that had to be worked on by an endodontist. It took almost 4 appointments for her to tell me this. Endodontist don't come cheap and the bad thing is since she had already started the root canal I had no choice. I come to get the tooth reconstructed after 3 separate sessions with the specialist and she still can't see me on time. I was supposed to be seen 45minutes ago! But she's ALWAYS been this late and I kept coming back. I'm so annoyed! I have to find another dentist that respects my time and the amount of out of pocket expenses I have to pay. I'm a college student struggling working full time trying to take care of my dental health. The dental assistants are nice but that's it. Run for the hills people I rather travel and receive the service I deserve. I have been very displeased and unhappy with the services provided at Sunnyside Dental. The only reason that I have visited this dentist is for the convenience factor. However, never again; the dentists are rash and the dental assistants look like they're in high school. The receptionist is nice but she can't make up for the dysfunction of this office. It's the dentist so I can't get too excited, but my experiences at Sunnyside Dental have been the best I've ever had at the dentist. I've been there twice so far for a check up, cleaning and 2 root canals. Dr. Yapport has been great. Not sure what she does different but I've experienced almost no pain after the dental work. The office is modern and the staff are very helpful both in person and over the phone. Both times I have only had to wait a few minutes before I was seen. I had a previous dentist who was always behind schedule and always made me wait at least an hour or more, so the service at Sunnyside Dental is refreshing. Dr. Yapport is very informative during my visits, discussing with me the work that I need done, as well as making suggestions for fixing the shoddy work done by my previous dentist. As a result, I feel I am able to make informed decisions about what work to have done. I also love that this great dental office is only a few blocks from my home. read more

I made an appointment for last Friday at 9am. I get to the office, it's closed. I look online and their hours start at 10am. So why in the world did they schedule me for 9? I wait and I call the receptionist at 10. She seems confused as to why the hygienist wasn't there at 9am, and then tells me some story about how she is actually in the hospital. (Though she initially seemed confused as to why she was not there at 9am.) Furthermore, she realizes my appointment had been CANCELED and that I was not listed, though I did NOT call to cancel my appointment. Additionally, I had scheduled an appointment with the dentist, not the hygienist, who apparently doesn't come in until 11am. What kind of mess is that? I've been going there for years and this was the last straw. I never felt well taken care of, and they seem to just be after quick insurance money.
