Imagine going to bed on a random Tuesday night and waking up Wednesday in utter agony with one side of your jaw swollen out two inches. It's a very scary situation. I've since heard of some people needing the ER. Dr Mitrut and his staff? Every single one of them was fantastic at all phases. Lisa's empathy came through on the first call; the staff, overall, are clearly experienced with emergency situations. And, importantly, Dr. Mitrut took the TIME to explain every stage of the events. That's rare. Too many doctors, in my own personal opinion, rely on their own experience without taking the time to recognize a person is in distress. Dr. Mitrut took those extra moments and I can't recommend him or this office enough because of that.

During the procedure, he repeatedly and aggressively compressed the instrument into my tooth with all his weight. Because of that, the instrument broke through the tooth wall and reached to the inner bone. It was obviously shown on x-ray taken one week after the procedure as a black perforation. This guy told me "Massage your gum" so I listened to him and kept on coming back to him to see the progress. After waiting a year, the perforation was still there but there was no change in the size. I decided to get a crown as I waited too long. But my dentist was apprehensive and said, "you may need to get this tooth extracted if this perforation turned into an infection". Then one and half year later that happened. I suddenly got excruciating tooth pain while I was in the flight, went to a dentist and found the tooth got infected spreading to the jawbone due to the instrument broke through the tooth. I ended up getting a tooth extraction and bone graft, and paid a lot of money for the procedure. Now I could recall he appeared to be very weird when he saw the x-ray and probably, he noticed the perforation was caused by his procedure but didn't want to admit it. He was supposed to know excess pressure can break the tooth wall. I also watched a common root canal procedure on Youtube and the modern technic is so gentle not requiring compression of the instrument throughout the whole procedure. He still practices very old technique, and his procedure is just aggressive. I even got injured on my bottom lip during the procedure. When I checked his reviews, I've seen successful root canal stories but now I saw some people experienced the same issue I had. I deeply regrated I chose this guy carelessly. Avoid this guy if you want to save your teeth otherwise you will end up losing your teeth and money.

I happened to come across MediDental care on Instagram weird algorithms, I saw that they accept my insurance and thought I'd try my luck. The following day I called when they were open and explained my situation to them, that I was in need of an emergency exam. within 10 minutes they called me back with an opening, for me to come in. The staff was courteous, attentive and intuitive, the Dentists were informative as well, my questions were answered, my issue was resolved and I was satisfied with my service. I'm now a new client with them and will be back in two weeks for further evaluation and services, and will keep an active review on them after every visit. 10/10 I would recommend their services, so far so good, they can work with you and in a timely manner as well, my issue was resolved in an 1 hr total.

I spoke to the front desk, over the phone, if they perform a root canal for tooth number 2. I asked the front desk if she was an endodontist, and she said, the doctor does root canals and other things too. I schedule an appointment for a consultation to be turned away because this procedure requires an endodontist. I paid the consultation for something I already know. It's a waste of money and time if you ask me. I give it a could've been better rating. On the other hand, she has a nice comfortable office and she does seem to be passionate about dentistry but I couldn't say much about her work since I never received any work from her. Anna is gentle and very thorough! She is also direct, and always lets me know if something is coming that I don't like (I hate cold air and scraping). (How many kids love their dentist?) I lived across the street from his office on Crescent Street. To this day (I am now 66 years old) I still speak fondly of Dr. Chiantella remembering how chatty he was (and being a true Italian he spoke with his hands so he would stop working in your mouth) and how he could understand EVERY SINGLE WORD YOU SAID with an open mouth full of gauze! Unfortunately Dr. C. died prematurely but Dr. Dreksler bought his practice and later moved it down the street. I saw Dr. Dreksler a couple of times in my 20's and I liked him very much and was glad that he took over the practice from Dr. C. I then moved out of town but if I still lived in Astoria I am sure I would still be seeing Dr. Dreksler.
