I learned that black mold has been an issue in these buildings for over ten years. When I found mold in my apartment, they have retaliated against me, harassed me, entered my home without permission, yelled at me multiple times, took photos of myself and my personal belongings in my home without permission, immediately ended my lease and sent a Marshall looking for me to serve me an eviction notice. They have lied time after time, even the codes department does not care about the safety of the residents at hillside. Most buildings are full of black mold in which they painted over, mice infestations, rusted fridges, cabinets from the 1990s, cracked sidewalks, unsafe stairs and lighting, water leaks, building floods probably even asbestos and lead paint in these buildings as they go back to the 1960s. They keep raising rent but yet they don't do any renovations. Maintenance constantly has to go back to tenants apartments because they can never fix the problems the right way. My windows are still missing screens after reporting it and having them come and fix my windows that wouldn't stay open. They do the bare minimum. 2024 my health declined severely mentally and physically, lost over 25 pounds in just the last three months of living there. I found black mold in my fridge. My cabinets, my bathroom. And the other tenants of my building have black mold as well and Hillside just keeps ignoring it. Please stay far away, there are plenty of other places to rent. Black mold is known as the "mimic disease" also the silent killer. It mimics many other diseases and symptoms. Oh and apparently filing a complaint on BBB is considered a threat to Christine.. so much for freedom of speech. They violated so many of my rights.

They don't care about the tenants well being, they only care about how much more money they can get from you. I lived here with black molds in my apartment for couple of months or maybe years and I got intoxicated because they were neglected to take care of it when I informed them about the issue which they later found out that a pipe was broken, licking in the bathroom walls and that caused the mold to spread to the kitchen and living-room. After all of this, I decided to get a different apartment and they offered Me a 2br which has dirty carpets, cracked bathtub, and kitchen cabinets with woods falling all over the kitchen. Please don't make the mistake I made renting with Barrington Residential. For $895 you can find a better place and good living conditions.

They couldn't/didn't bother to review surveillance video because the first time the cameras were out of order and they only record for 24 hours, then the footage is gone. - I've had three packages stolen from the entry foyer in as many months, so there's apparently a dirty rotten thief here somewhere - all of the carpets in the hallway are covered in huge dog urine and feces stains. Because of this I'm embarrassed to even have company - I've been here four years and they haven't even thought about fixing maintenance issues (I have several faulty outlets, the floor is eroded in my bathroom since I moved in, and my faucets drip terribly) - they state that your deposit is non-refundable, which isn't legal in NYS. Save yourself some trouble and find a different place! I'm now disabled, but the minute I can afford to, I'm gone. If the owner wants to discuss details, I'll be happy to share them with you; Ryan should know who/where I am.

But, beware of the following: - The laundry room appliances do not work well. The dryers cannot dry towels. - The lease requires you to move out about 1 week before the end of your last month, even though you will be required to pay the full month rent, - The landlord comes across a nice old lady, but she is a shark and will find every way possible to not return your security deposit. I was blamed for leaks in windows and leaks in ceiling which were issues with the building itself, not caused by misuse of my apt. - The landlord old does a walk-thru and picks for everything. My wife spent hours cleaning every cupboard, every appliance, and the bathroom and even though the place was spotless, the landlord told my wife that the stave was not clean. She didn't say this during the walk-thru, she said it when we called her a couple weeks later to ask about the status of our security deposit. I suppose that I feel a little better in knowing that I am not the only renter to be screwed by the old lady. Earlier today I looked on apartment ratings.com and saw about half-dozen people saying that had the same experience. Well, I guess I should have researched before renting the place. Anyway, I feel better letting you know of this and hopefully preventing others from the same. If you feel compelled to rent from her, then at least do yourself a favor and do not pay the last month rent. That way you will at least not be screwed out of your security deposit. They sent the returned security deposit back to their own apartment rather than my new address. Many more concerns, these were just a few of them! Would not recommend this apartment complex. I have never had any of these issues at other complexes.
