The vast majority of people here arrive in large RV's and many leave the generators/engines running all night. The amenities for kids are great, there's even a petting zoo! Opinions of KOA campsites are very subjective, if you want minimalistic camping without RV's cluttering up the view, try elsewhere. If you want "to camp without camping" KOA is a fair bet. I'll personally be staying away from KOA in the future (have already done so and ended up in some incredible independently run campsites)

The store was beyond overpriced ($4.99 for marshmallows that are so old you can tell through the bag that they are stale), and the staff was not very friendly compared to other KOA's and they were especially not helpful. (When I asked for recommendations of places to go for hikes/walks in nature nearby I was told to Google it.) If you want to have a camping experience in nature, you will be disappointed in this campground. If you want a cheap alternative place to sleep when you are visiting South Bend, maybe you will be satisfied. But please note that they felt it necessary to implement a key card system to even get into the campground. So I wouldn't feel comfortable tent camping here. (Someone with mal intent could just drive up to the campground and then get out of their car and walk into the campground. )

And we have. Grounds are immaculate, no wrappers drink bottles or debris anywhere. Bathrooms are well kept and spacious. Attendant was gracious while she worked. Groundskeepers were helpful and attentive working around us and were concerned about our needs. Concerning the storm damage of this spring this campground pull on its boots and fought back the River. They have improved the power lines and flattened the pads to park on. Many activities ongoing for improvements around this winding riverfront campground. There is blend of seasonal campers, week long and weekenders. The private pond has a cleaned, well maintained beach and the used of kayaks. Nice little playground for the little ones.

However, we were a little put off that we had asked for a shaded site during the reservation process and were told "no problem" but then when we checked in and reminded them that we wanted a shaded site we were told that they didn't have one for us but the site we had was good too. However the site we got assigned really wasn't so great. In addition to it not being shaded, it was also right next to the dumpster and a large building which housed the laundry area that had outside lights on all night so the view was less than ideal. Since we also seemed to be the only people who were interested in having a fire each night in the crisp September evenings the outside lights of the building really ruined the ambiance. The lackluster site would have been understandable if the campground was full but it was nowhere near full. The entire time we were there we saw plenty of nice, shady sites not being used at all or used for only a single night. Basically, it was just really disappointing that they didn't make any effort to accommodate our simple request for the three nights we were there when it appeared that it would have been easy for them to do so. All that being said we did actually enjoy our stay there. The gentleman that checked us in, Roger, was nice. We purchased 4 bundles of wood for $20 and the amount of firewood and various sizes that they delivered to our site was impressive. The campground overall seemed clean and the people staying there were friendly. We didn't experience people partying or getting rowdy like we have at other campgrounds so it made it easier to relax. Pros: *They accept Good Sam *Most sites are pull-through *Open nature of the campground easily accommodates larger rigs *Sites are pretty level and have lots of grass *Clean *Nice, polite staff *Centrally located. Lots of stores and restaurants super close. Only about 10 min from the RV Hall of Fame *Bundles of firewood are large and a great value *The sites that do have trees are pleasant and inviting *Campground has amenities like a pool and playground so there are things to entertain children *There are cabins available for those who do not have a trailer/RV *Laundry facilities are available Cons: *Staff may say they can accommodate a request and then not do so *Sites near the large building in the center of the campground lack ambiance and the bright outdoor lights from the building can be annoying at night *Lots of noise from the highway *Campground store looked like it could use some sprucing up to make it more inviting *You cannot make online reservations We are thinking of moving to the area and if we decide to do so then we will definitely consider staying there again while we house hunt. That being said, if we do then we'll be more insistent about staying at a site further away from the center building.

The aquatic center seems to have something for absolutely everyone: a lap pool for the serious swimmers, which isn't wide, but is full length; a winding walking/floating area with a bit of current for walkers like me and those who want to drift in big, blue inner tubes; a fantastic water slide as good as many at water parks I've visited; and a zero-depth play area with a giant bucket overhead that fills with water from a suspended faucet and tips over periodically, dousing all those playing below! The area is high-ceilinged and bright, with huge windows on all sides. There are tables and chairs, and lounge chairs. The locker room didn't wow like the rest of the aquatic area...but it's a locker room! I'm planning on exploring the weight area next, which is large and filled with what looks like state of the art machines. I'm told you can always get advice about how to use the machines. About the food: I've eaten there three times in four days and the food was delicious, abundant and remarkably inexpensive. I told them they need a drive-up -- they're so much better than fast food! I'm actually considering coming here with friends just for lunch. The facility is well attended, even in the dog days of August, by folks of all ages, colors, and physical fitness. A couple of previous reviewers harped on its location as low-income: it's not in an upscale part of town, but it's hardly a poor man's club. It's a bright, clean, well-run facility that caters to everyone. And who doesn't want that?!! The staff I dealt with, enrolling and subsequently, were pleasant and knowledgable -- nothing like previous reviewers experienced. My membership is $30/month, for which I get free range of the facility all day, everyday. Classes are extra, or I can upgrade to free classes for $40/month. I don't see how you can beat that!
