Love this place! Even locals haven't heard of it when I told them that I was staying here, so it's a hidden gem, the kind I love the most. I stayed in Swift Brook's Bend, Cottage #4, and had a direct view of the covered patio out back and of the brook itself. Unlike what their website says, all cottages have window a/c's, so thankful given how hot and humid it was during my five night stay. Thye screen porch stayed dry despite the on/off heavy rain, too. My cottage had paper plates, not real plates, and plastic forks/spoons/knives, so glad I had my own set of metal silverware since I hate eating with plastic utensils. Also had plastic cups which was okay but I brought my own insulated mug for my mixed drinks :-) There aren't full curtains for all of the windows so I used bath & beach towels for more privacy at night, not that there were people wandering all over the place, I was pretty much the only one who had a quick look around one evening.
The brook itself was running at a nice clip but not so fast that it was dangerous and it is dammed up a little bit, so swimming is easy but the brook itself was rather shallow - I'm exactly 5'4" and the water at it's deepest was mid-thigh high. It was clear and refreshingly cool and had I bought an inner tube, I could have sat in it for hours :-)
Jane was helpful and quite the pistol and I mean that in the best way possible. I loved it so much here that I booked another stay for next July in a bigger cottage right on the brook (#9 - Moonlight Hideaway) and furthest away from the road. Road noise in Swift Brook's Bend wasn't too bad but I also had the a/c blasting for the first three nights due to the high temps/dew points. The bed was a comfortable queen with plenty of blankets and four pillows. Bthroom is tiny so I never shut the door since I was just staying here with my dog. Shower was rectangular in shape - not one of those tiny box showers but still small - I didn't try to shave my legs in there, it would have been impossible. Location is fabulous - maybe five minutes in light traffic to Conway. Right near Lake Chicorua - which allows leashed dogs in the beach. I also recommend checking out the New Hampshire Country Store in the town of Chicorua and is right on Rt. 16 - it has three floors of wonderfulness if you love an antique/consignment/old country general store combination. There's something in there for everyone including kids - the top floor is mostly kids toys and other kid stuff.
All in all, I highly recommend staying here and can't wait to come back next year, hopefully with a friend or two in tow! read more
