If you are trusting some of your clothing to this cleaners you might want to reconsider. I took 2 of my sweaters there only to find that they were stretched beyond recognition. I was upset to see the condition that they were in. They said they could fix it, which seemed unlikely. I will be returning to my tried and true dry cleaners in Long Grove. I brought in my slacks to be taken in at the back in the middle. They totally butchered my pants. The belt loops were carelessly and hideously reattached and unwearable now! There is a hole in it where they reattached the belt loops. These were $100 pants from Banana Republic that I can no longer wear to work. Both these pants and my other pants that were taken in now look like I have a perma-wedgie. How attractive. Do not go here unless you like throwing away your money and your clothes! Their alterations services are awful. When I confronted them about this, they were unapologetic and without remorse. So much for customer service for customer retention. I will be taking my business elsewhere and so should you! read more

Cheap pricing for laundered shirts but look out otherwise. They lose shirts pretty regular and don't like to take responsibility for it. EVER. They will openly blame you if nobody else is in the store, otherwise will tell you that they will keep looking for it. Sunmade Cleaners has been my primary dry cleaner during my time in Palatine. My experience is limited to dry cleaning shirts, slacks and sweaters. Beyond that I have not taken advantage of any of their other services. It definitely is, and definitely feels like, a family owned business. Their prices tend to beat out any other local cleaners you will find and they have a relatively quick turn around time. The owner has been there EVERY, I emphasize EVERY, time that I have gone. He seems friendly to some and gruff to others I tend to get the latter, but it hasn't tainted my opinion of the business. The young woman (his daughter?) that is almost always there is the exact opposite, which provides a healthy balance. She is incredibly friendly and always has a smile on her face. In my time she has learned my name and usually has my drop off slip ready by the time I get into the door or is grabbing my clothes of the rack before I get in. They take credit cards, but as with most small businesses prefer that you pay cash, unless the bill is larger (but even then I'd say they prefer cash). I have never had a problem with Sunmade Cleaners and considering their price point crushes local competition I have no recommending them. read more

I started taking my shirts to Sunmade when I lived a block away and the two brothers who own this store are the most amazingly friendly, welcoming and helpful with anything I need. Since then I have moved 4 miles away, but still drive my dry cleaning to them as all their cleaning is done on site and done extremely well. This is how a family owned business should be run! The owner is usually onsite, opening doors for patrons with a smile. Prices are reasonable for the service you receive. I've been totally satisfied with basic alterations (sleeve length, hems) done here as well. One annoyance: Palatine Rd is currently under construction, making it almost impossible to enter the parking lot. read more

Two stars because lady who helped me was so nice. Brought in a jacket to have a patch sewn on. If they couldn't do it, they should have said so. Patch was butchered. Thread color didn't even match and was so poorly stitched that it baffled me that who ever didn't his thought it was an acceptable job. My kid picked it up on a Friday afternoon and was too shy to complain. I didn't see it until Saturday. Yes, it could have been taken back where maybe they may have fixed it. But the simple fact that they thought it was ok enough told me not to. Took it to another place where they not only repaired but repositioned the patch so it looked great. This place might be great for simple stuff and laundry. But if you have other things consider going elsewhere. read more

I have a theory that they just charge me the same price no matter what I bring in. Most of what I get back is well done.. however, on several occasions when getting dressed I found a zipper is broken. They said they now have some new machine that presses shirts more efficiently. Now there aren't those creases in the arms of your shirts or blouses. It doesn't bother me. Apparently more of their older clientele have been upset. This is a good place to bring your dry cleaning if you need it back in a rush. They are also a lot less expensive than others. I wouldn't recommend alteration service. read more

They wrote my name in marker on the tag of my shirt. The ink bled through and the wouldn't take responsibility for it. They said they had to remove the tag to get the stain out and I didn't want that. They said cheaper shirts tend to bleed through. It was a $385 Thomas Pink Prestige Shirt and I only got to wear it once. Not only did they wreck it, but they were rude. read more

I have been using Sunmade Cleaners ever since they opened after the Sunmade Deli closed (not sure if there is a family connection there or not). We have always been happy with everything that was done for us here. The people that work here are very nice too (the owner sometimes seems a bit gruff) and the young woman there is really nice ... always has a smile and is friendly too. I have them do my good shirts and never had anything go wrong. Also over the past few years I had our queen sized bed comforter cleaned twice and it came out smelling so nice and clean. I have also had alterations and some repairs done to my clothing and every time the work was done to perfection. I think the prices are very reasonable too. 2 Stars: 1 star for having my dry cleaning and alterations ready on the agreed upon date, and 1 star for "trying" to make things right when I was unhappy. I recently moved back to this area, and Sunmade was one of two cleaners located on Palatine Road, right near my rental property. I chose them simply based on proximity, and due to the fact that business there always seemed bustling. Big mistake. I brought in over 7 pairs of slacks to have alterations done. Some needed to be let in, some needed to be hemmed, and others needed both. I had an experience similar to one of the previous 'Yelpers'. Every pair of slacks had issues. Some were let in too much, even though I specifically wore thicker underoos for the fitting to avoid this. One of my slacks that were hemmed had uneven leg lengths. Another pair they had sewn over the two belt loops in the back. What's worse, the sewing is paltry at best. One pair of slacks has a thread color that doesn't even come close to matching. Two others were coming apart before I even wore them, and had tons of loose/frayed ends inside the pant legs. I also had them clean and press 4 button downs for me. I asked them not to write my name on my clothes, I had enough of that during my years at summer camp. I also asked for no starch. All of them came back starched, which made it even harder for me to iron out the huge creases they had made, and all of them had my name written on bottom. The owner asked for a second chance, in order to make things right, and I obliged. After trying on each pair for them again, I let him have all of the slacks back, for another week or so. I was not happy with the changes they made. Everything they did to try and fix their mistakes, just made things look much worse on each pair of pants. The worst was when they tried to let out the pants that they let in too much. Now I had track marks going all the way down my butt on two pairs of slacks. The rear of the pants were so oddly shaped, it looked like I was a white girl in "apple bottom" jeans, with all this extra (unused) fabric in the seat of the pants. To make matters worse, I'm not even sure they dry cleaned my clothes as I paid for, after the alterations. There was some dirt on a khaki colored pair of slacks I gave them, and I asked him to try and get them clean when I left them for the second round of alterations. The dirt was still there after what was supposed to be the second time dry cleaning them. Before trashing all of the slacks, I put this pair in the washer, just to see if the dirt would come out. After all, it was just dirt from rubbing up against a CTA bus by accident. The dirt was gone after a simple cold/gentle delicates wash, and all their sewing on the pant legs was coming undone. I found that interesting, to say the least. Needless to say, I cut my losses and threw all but one pair of slacks in the garbage. It's not life or death, just a few hundred dollars of ruined clothing. So I chose not to get into an argument with the owner, or make a scene. Even though he tried to intimidate me by coming around the counter, and taking a stern tone with me, as his store filled up with customers. All of that being said, the worst part of my experience was when the owner tried to belittle me for the brand name of one of my pairs of slacks. They were a gift from my ex, and the only pair that was an off-brand. So when I was showing him the mistakes they made on the alterations, he replied with "Cmon buddy, it's not like they're Armani or anything...." That speaks volumes, doesn't it? My advice: avoid using them for alterations. Use them for dry cleaning and pressing at your own risk, you'll clearly be tempting fate. While they may not think there is a problem based on their volume, there is simply no excuse for their mistakes with my alterations, and their "you need us more than we need you" attitude is utterly ridiculous. PS. If someone asks you not to write on their clothes, DON'T write on their clothes! read more

Zero or a negative amount of stars would be more appropriate. I hadn't been here since it was Sunmade deli back in the '80's. I will not be going back again. I brought in a NEW white shirt to have cleaned and pressed because it had factory creases & the sleeves were wrinkled. When I picked it up it was stained and still wrinkled. So, I brought it back. They "cleaned" it again. The stains & wrinkles are still there, and now there are new brown stains that might actually be burns! The shirt is most likely ruined. They also put creases in a pair of my flat front pants when I specifically told them not to. Plus, they're flat front pants! Any cleaning/tailoring shop should know this without having to be told. Unbelievable. Admittedly, though, the owner seemed like a nice person. I hope he reads this and tries to do better. Also, I'm from Palatine, not SF. read more
