If you look up bakeries, boulangeries or pattiseries on the Big Island you'll find they are slim to no options... but I heard about Sundog Bread through word of mouth and so thankful for it because they make the best organic breads and pastries on island! Everything is fresh baked and they use as many local ingredients as possible so their offerings are quite unique. I always buy a loaf of sourdough to enjoy throughout the week and it's fun to try their different flavors such as Olena (turmeric). Some of my favorites are their dark choco croissant, jaboticaba macnut croissant, lilikoi bun, and giant chocolate chip cookie. I once bought a loaf of their milk bread but I mistakenly left it on the counter for 2 days and it started molding so I unfortunately didn't get to try it.. it was heartbreaking because it looked so pillowy soft but at least I knew it meant there were no preservatives in their bread. They key is to eat their bread day of or freeze it for later. They set up their booth in Holualoa in front of the Glyph art gallery on Wednesdays at 1:00pm. There is public parking next door to them and if you're driving all the way there, you might as well come a little early to walk around the town and check out the cute boutiques and other art galleries. read more

This was delicious! My sister found this online and ordered before we got to the island. The pick up spot was easy to find and all the pastries were delicious. Difficult to pick a favorite! I'd recommend ordering, looks like they only do 1 or 2 days a week but it's definitely worth it! read more

Totally worth the drive but watch out for school release time. Cars just sit in the lane of traffic waiting to pick there kids up. You CAN go around them but you have to be careful. School got out at 1:30 when we were there. All of that said, it is worth the trip!! The baked good are so moist and delicious! I'm so glad we stumbled upon this treasure!! read more

The Japanese milk bread was soooo soo good and I made some good dessert and toast with it after I got home! The cookie I got was huggeeeee and had a very natural taste to it. The monkey bread was good as well. The only thing that was meh was the macadamia nut roll I got which I was slight disappointed, but I also ate it after 3 days because I got too much bread so maybe it was really just my own fault, so eating it fresh is highly recommended! The stand was super cute and they also gave out free avocados there which was great! I personally ordered ahead online for pickup to make sure I got everything I wanted, but I think even if you don't order ahead, they still have items that you can purchase directly there :) read more

A small roadside - outlet. Pre ordered online- for easy pick up. Only open a few days a week. Went with 1 pistachio muffin- 3 chocolate chip. Pistachio disappeared- within a5 mile drive. Excellent tasting. Had 2 of the chocolate- breakfast- good also - 1 more left ! Worth the drive! read more

Randomly found this place this morning after not wanting to wait for breakfast at 808 Grindz - what a gem! We purchased fresh monkey bread, cardamom rolls, and cookies, and then opted to pair them with coffee from Kona Coffee & Tea down the street at the recommendation of the staff, who had informed us that Sundog wasn't yet selling coffee, but would do so next week. Note that Sundog isn't a sit down place of any kind - it's simply a window where you can purchase fresh breads, pastries and treats. I anticipate that it will soon be quite popular with a long line! read more

I've had fresh sourdough bread in San Francisco which is what I used compare all other sourdough bread to. However, Sundog's sourdough is now my standard. All baked goods that Wesley & Sarah create are exquisite. I'm so stoked that they have relocated to the Kona Butcher Shop. read more

Sundog is amazing!!! Everything I had was delicious! I recommend all of it. I enjoyed the rye brownie, lilikoi roll, cinnamon roll, and of course, the sourdough bread. They got me through my vacation. I only wish I could have brought it all home with me. Be sure to get to there on Wednesday or try and find their items at some other locations. read more

We ate everything too quickly to photograph but, trust me, it was all just beautiful as the photos on the Sundog website and so tasty. We shared the cinnamon roll - the cinnamon on the roll had a little kick and was delicious, and the cream cheese icing was the best I've ever had - flavorful but not heavy and paired perfectly with the little spice from the cinnamon and the fluffy bread of the roll. We also loved the ham & cheese croissant and the jalapeño cheese croissant. The lilikoi pastry is truly the best lilikoi dessert I've ever had - lightly sweet but not overly sugary, which allowed the slight tartness of the fruit to really shine. We absolutely loved all of the items we got from Sundog and will be back. FYI - we preordered for Wednesday pickup on Monday night. The website was really easy to use and I immediately received an email receipt with details on where and when to pick up our goodies. read more

Got to the pop up Wednesday 5 minutes before they opened. There was a fairly long line but they still had everything when we got up to the front to order. So many options we had to pick so many things!! We had cookies, ham and cheese croissants and dark chocolate croissants. Tomorrow morning we will be having monkey bread and a cinnamon roll!! I cannot wait!! Everything, everything was amazing!! What a find!! If only I was here for another Wednesday!! They don't have the actually location any more but they do a pop up roadside stand on Wed and Friday, 2-5 pm, that you can also preorder for. I went there for the first time yesterday and tried the jalapeño cheese croissant and the ulu sourdough bread, both we excellent. I particularly loved the taste and soft texture of the sourdough bread. They also do pizzas on every second and forth Friday of the month. It's a husband and wife who bake everything and they are definitely great at what they do. Check them out if you are in Holualoa and checkout their website and preorder ahead of time if there is something you really want to try. You won't be disappointed read more

What a find!!! Came across Sundog on yelp and ordered for the first time via their online preorders for pickup in Holualoa, and have ordered at least 4 times since then. We're hooked on Sundog!!! Favorites: Japanese Milk Bread - so fluffy and sweet and light. I love toasting this with butter and eating it with a runny egg on top. Delicious just by itself, but also makes for the most amazing toast with jam & butter Cardamom bun - I've never heard of these until ordering from Sundog, but these are a favorite of me and the hubby. Super cute little stand, we came here to grab a cup of coffee and a pastry to hold us over while waiting for a table at 808 Grindz. We got the Brown Butter Banana Turnover and a cold brew. Popped in to check it out and got a loaf of garlic black pepper sourdough that was pretty much perfect. Definitely worth stopping in!

Sourdough wheat was delicious. They can slice their bread for you. Perfect for avacado toast for breakfast.

I grew up in my mother's bakery in Hungary. Unquestionably her, and her sisters were the best bread makers in the country. That was 25 years ago that I last ate sourbread as yummy as this. Organic, highest quality ingredients. Daylightmind cafe refuses to give away that they buy from them. What a pitty, for just the integrity of Sundog's product would make more sales for the Daylightmind Cafe as well. The line early in the morning is constant, and by 9 am they are sold out if almost everything. Office ladies, better watch those lines, it's obvious what is going on your errands to the shop. My irresistible favorites are the ham and cheese croissants and 100% rye bread. I am content starting every day. The cold brew and the handchurned butter are the best of town as well. I swear I could taste the beepollen in the coffee and the butter never been as flavorful since I was a kid. read more

OMG this is amazing. someone told me about this place and said I needed to try it while on vacation. i pre order on line and picked from their road side stand. I even ordered extra items when I got there and saw the goods first hand. Between my friend and I we tried almost everything. I really wanted to try the bread, but I was leaving a few days later and didn't want to travel with it. the owners were very nice and friendly as welll.
