Warm, informal and congenial evening here with a group of colleagues. Service was good, and our first drink order was taken, delivered (and drunk) quickly. Beers were pricey at 7.5 for small bottles, but served into wine glasses, so I presume that makes up for the 50% overprice there. I selected one of the two set menu options at around EUR40 for three courses. My appetizer choice was the herring buffet, and despite the scary sound of that, it was actually excellent - lovely selection of fish done in many ways - marinated, charred, plain, rollmop etc. the sour cream, chopped red onion and other accompaniments hit the spot nicely. They also delivered me a nice mini oven roasted potato in skin to the table - Finland and potatoes go together like sushi and rice! next up was the Finnish lamb stew, which was served on an iron pan. a little drier and less broth rich than I would have liked (for EUR23 euro as a standalone order) but good roasted vegetables and well cooked lamb. To conclude cloudberries with a white chocolate parfait, which was delicious. The white wine, a Voigner, was a good house wine, and the Chilean red was likewise not bad as a house wine offer. Overall, an enjoyable evening in cosy, informal surroundings, and had the lamb stew been served with a decent broth rather than dry, the overall meal would have been notably good. As it was, the herring opener was notable, and finish very good, but work required on the Finnish stew main. Maybe that's the traditional style, in which case, time to inject some traditional French broth know-how into the recipe. Overall, worth a visit. read more
