Dog Friendly!!
Ashley S.

Fun spot to stop and take it all in. Also, very dog friendly! Would recommend that if your pup is skittish or does not like certain textures on their feet you'll likely have to pick them up. We have a travel backpack that we use to go hiking or for situations like this. Great spot for Pictures as well

The sundial bridge (and surrounding park) is a fantastic spot to relax and enjoy some beautiful nature. Highly recommend getting a nice view of the river from the bridge. It's quite nice.

A cool place to visit in Redding.. they have it lit up for Christmas.. it's beautiful. It's worth the visit.. dress warm at night for its cold - really cold this winter..: I've been in the summer and it's just as beautiful

Magnificent. I can be here all day to enjoy every moment and surrounding of it. I can see the beautiful snow mountain from the bridge. I enjoyed looking down to see people on their boat fishing in the river. Everyone is enjoying nature.

While in the Redding area, we wanted to see the famous bridge that the city is known for, the Sundial Bridge. It was a nice way to see this part of town and even learned about the Turtle Bay Exploration Park where Sundial Bridge is located. The bridge's design is the highlight of this landmark. It's built using cables, which miraculously holds it all together. The surface of the bridge is translucent, so lights up when it gets dark. It crosses over the Sacramento River and connects you to the other side of the park where the botanical gardens are and other trails. When we visited on a Sunday night, it was cool to see how many people visit the bridge, locals and tourists. Given that it's located in a large park, there's other activities going on nearby. If you're in Redding, this is a nice landmark to visit, providing for a nice scenery in a location that's worth exploring by foot.

We came here to the Turtle Bay Park to check out one of the few things to call an attraction in Redding, the Sundial Bridge. It's a very unique design, but it's for pedestrians only with the see thru floor. No cars allowed, so you can't drive across it. It's pretty popular place and it's fun to check out once, I've never seen a bridge like this one before. Maybe make a stop in Redding if you're passing thru to break up a trip. If you're into photography, this is a cool place to come an try some art shots.

Amidst the flowers the Sundial Bridge tells the hours. We come here every year to visit family and the bridge is our "always" destination for a family and dog walk. The Sundial Bridge is not only a spectacular bridge but, in fact, a working sundial ---one of the largest in the world. It's a huge structure and Its shadow traces a large arc that can record only four hours a day, from 11am - 3pm. HoAn incredible working Sundial. Parking: Convenient and nearby parking is available on each side of the river. Also--the bridge connects the McConnell Arboretum and Botanical Garden and the Turtle Bay Exploratory Park -which includes-a museum, cafe, and restrooms. It's a perfect stop to enjoy and view the beautiful bridge architecture but also stunning gardens and beautiful river trails. In fact-the river trail is a popular spot for walking, biking, and families. Many people ride bikes and walk across the bridge to access the river trail. Something for everyone including Dogs----to enjoy.

When you're in Redding, the Sundial Bridge is a must visit landmark. We were in town for a stay before heading to Burney Falls the next day, so we opted to come here to check it out. The Sundial Bridge is an architectural beauty and overlooks the Sacramento River. Great scenery and nature vibes as we walked around the area of the bridge.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A surprisingly cool landmark. When I read about this landmark, I must admit I wasn't expecting much, but the hubby and I ended up having a great time around here. Not only is it a really beautiful world-class structure--its majestic spanning of the Sacramento River affording some amazing views--it's a popular gathering place for people and it was great to be out enjoying a beautiful day as part of the crowd, especially after the lockdown. There is also a really nice science park at the base, and we spent a few pleasant hours wandering and meandering about the bridge and its environs. I think if you have kids it's a must, but it's great for just adults too!

I think I was expecting a bit more but to think this is the biggest sundial in the world and it crossed the Sacramento River, you take in the awe of it and it becomes a 10. This place is FREE to see and walk across. Parking was easy and free as well. As you stand on the bridge looking down upon the Sacramento River you see a beautiful view of flyfishermen standing in the water along with boats all trying to catch something. As the sun sets below the horizon the colors are beautiful. We actually came twice to ejoy the beauty and peacefulness. A must see at least once in your life.

Nice place to visit. There were fishers in the water, small boats going by. Good place for a walk, but didn't like that there are so many spiders everywhere in trees and bushes. It was a gorgeous evening

Lake Shasta Caverns - Large Room during the light show

Lake Shasta Caverns

Dog-Friendly Adventure!…read more Lake Shasta Caverns was the perfect stop on our road trip from Portland to San Francisco! We were thrilled to discover it's dog-friendly and our pup loved every minute of it. The location is ideal for a midway break, and late May weather was absolutely beautiful. We arrived 30 minutes early and found parking easily. The gift shop kept us entertained while we waited, and the boat ride across the lake set the perfect tone for what was to come. But the real star? The caverns themselves. The natural beauty and the opportunity to explore with my dog made this feel truly special. Fair WARNING: you will get your steps in! The climb to the cathedral room is steep, and my partner and I, who are gym-goers with an active dog, definitely felt it. That said, the views (and the bats!) absolutely make it worth it. I noticed some older visitors and those recovering from knee surgery opted out, and a few families with small children were cautious on the descent, so know what you're signing up for. The walk back down requires careful footing so please take your time and watch your step. The tour guide wasn't as polished as I'd hoped and leaned a bit too playful for our taste, but honestly? You're paying for the scenery, not the commentary. And yes, it's pricey, but it genuinely feels like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Overall, worth every penny and every step. Highly recommend!

A guided tour of Lake Shasta Cavern. You can get tickets online or in person inside their gift…read moreshop. Tour included boat ride to the bus, bus ride to the cavern. Inside the cave, there are so many different rock formations. Each section, our tour guide gave many interesting facts and information. Be prepared to walked through hundreds and hundreds of stairs. Up and down. Some can be pretty steep and slippery. The ground inside were mostly wet and muddy. I will recommend wearing comfy shoes, hiking shoes, closed toes shoes or any shoes you don't mind getting tons of muds on it. It can get chilly inside the cave, so bring a jacket just in case. At the end of the tour, you get a chance to take pictures with the beautiful colorful formations. Once the tour is done, you will walk back to the bus stop to get a ride back to the boat. The boat will then take you back to the starting point. Plenty of parking. There are restrooms to use.

An original town in Shasta County…read more This historic park houses the remains of Shasta City, once alive and bustling during the Gold Rush days, and now a ghost town with restored stagecoach, barn and courthouse. Due to Covid-19 the museum is temporarily closed but we stopped and walked among the Southside Ruins, strolling and stopping to read the markers and interpretive signs at the brick ruins, imagining for a moment what it was like in 1849. The authentic brick buildings have crumbled and are the decayed remnants of a once thriving gold rush shopping district. Across the street is an open picnic grounds with lots of picnic benches under shady trees. The park hours sign read: open from Sunrise to Sunset. The temperatures here reached over 100° F this past weekend and is probably like this every summer so take extra water. We did not see the cemetery. We hope to return again someday to explore and learn more. Easy access. The park is six miles west of downtown Redding and Highway 299 passes through the town's Main Street. Review #1910

Interstate 5 is the formal name. I grew up knowing it as the 5. Which is correct?!?! Who knows!! ;)…read more I drive the 5 in Sacramento at least five times a week. It's my go to favorite path to work. For the most part, this area is my favorite drive. I don't like the slow down of construction, but I also understand improvement is best for all. Accidents happen. Slow downs from this gets crazy. Impatiently waiting to be on my way. Now, when on the 5 heading towards Los Angeles....oh my!! The two lane area can get tricky. For example, the right lane which is considered the slow lane has the most holes and or bumps in the road. I guess the heavy traffic of eighteen wheelers tear up the roads. The left lane is better, but considered the fast lane! People drive like they're late for an important meeting. In the Los Angeles area, there's more holes in every other lanes. You have to pay close attention. I'm always afraid I'm going to have a flat on a crazy busy highway. San Diego is better, but not perfect! It has its own issues. Problem areas as well. Overall, our family enjoys road trips and creating memories. The 5 is our favorite choice to travel on. I cannot complain. No where is perfect. Accidents happen. Repairs are a must. Look ahead. Look left and right. Check your rear view mirror! BE SAFE! DRIVE RESPONSIBLY!! Relax and enjoy your path!!!

As an East Coaster, I'm still going to refer to it as "Interstate 5" and not like you Californians…read morethat call it "the five." Because that's just silly. I have spent a good amount of time on this road, as far north as the Canada border and as far south as the San Diego airport. I am not interested in driving in to Mexico, thanks! I-95 follows the east coast from Canada, it continues down into Florida and not the Canada border. And while I-35 goes from Laredo Texas, it terminates in Duluth Minnesota and not at the Canada border. That makes I-5 special! Rest areas along the way are mostly open and many of them allow overnight parking. And you can expect the highway patrol of all three states to be looking out for speeders. So use caution, don't speed and you'll, as they say, "Arrive alive." [Review 20936 overall - 483 in California - 1920 of 2023.]
