Went here when a friend had invited us for her and her future husband's wedding. I have never heared about the place and was a bit astonished when they told us that they decided to throw their wedding fiest there, in Eskilstuna, quite far from where they live (Stockholm)- 1,2 hours drive.
When we arrived I understood why. The caste is situated by the water and the sourroundings are so romantic and lush. The castle is one of those catles that look like a really big house but still very glamourous and grande.
In accordance to the castle there is Sundbyholm Slott Hotell where all the guests were advised to stay and paying 1700 kr for a double room, I was very surprised of the low standard. The rooms were located in house blocks and you got a camping-hut-feeling. The rooms were ok, but rather basic and you could here the people in the other room way too well!
The hotell and restaurant personell took care of the entire wedding party and had a pompous welcome for the wedding couple with three canon shots and saber ring of champagne bottle.
Despite the castle and the entire atmonsphere being very luxurous I was surprised regarding the food, that was only ok. I don't even want to know what the married couple paid for each envelope but I believe it was way to much. The food was good but just ok..
When having the wedding cake we waited 20 minutes before we were served coffe, not a good sign when in Sweden.
The breakfast the next day was nothing special. Some shake n' bake scrambled egg with bacon and the ordinary varieties of bread and spreads. Thumbs up for homemade (?) lemoncurd. Awful salty scones-skip them! read more
