We were really looking forward to our stay at Ruttger's Bay Lake Resort, especially since our kids…read morewere so excited to use the pools. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were disappointed to find both pools closed--a fact that was never mentioned on the website or during booking. The website was also out of date, with no notice about the pool closures or the restaurant being closed. This lack of communication was a huge letdown for us and especially hard on our kids. After receiving a text that our room was ready, we checked in only to find the room still dirty. The staff did try to help by sending a manager intern, who found us another room, but that one was also dirty and needed cleaning. We ended up waiting an additional 30-45 minutes before we could finally get settled. Once we were finally in, we found the condo-style cabins to be cute and comfortable, with a nice deck and great views of the golf course and lake (though some big pine trees block part of the view). There's plenty of parking, and the property has several docks for fishing and a large marina, which was a big hit with our family. However, due to pool construction, the trail to the marina dock was blocked, forcing us to take a much longer and less convenient route. We had fun fishing and caught some big sunfish off the main marina dock. The restaurant had a nice deck and a DJ, but closes pretty early and the food is quite pricey. The community fire pits are a great touch, with plenty of wood provided for guests to enjoy a classic evening of s'mores. As a gesture of goodwill for the pool closure, the resort offered us a two-hour pontoon rental, which was appreciated but didn't fully make up for the disappointment and lack of communication. We tried to rent a fishing boat, but it had mechanical issues. The marina crew was super helpful and gave us a good deal on a full-day pontoon rental instead, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Big thanks to Rob and Casey at the marina--they were friendly, hardworking, and made our experience so much better. The kids had an absolute blast on the lake! We also enjoyed the ice cream shop and took out kayaks and other water toys, which were reasonably priced and lots of fun. At first, we weren't sure if we would return or recommend Ruttger's to others, but the marina crew truly turned things around for us and made the end of our trip memorable. I would recommend this resort to families and groups, but I really hope management improves communication, keeps the website updated, and ensures rooms are ready and clean for arriving guests. With a few improvements, this could be an amazing place for a family getaway.

Service was pretty rough from the start. Our server was friendly, but they spilled our drinks at the table and then had to take them back because they'd been made with bad milk. It took forever to get the first round and even longer to get the second. You'd think they'd move faster getting us the second round given the first was spilled and made with bad milk! Definitely a missed opportunity to make up for the poor overall service. The bread was the highlight of the night, which is very telling given it was standard crostini bread. That said, it was warm, fresh, and served with delicious butter. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn't live up to that start. The food took far, far, far too long to come out and when it finally did, it didn't all arrive together. Half the table started eating while the other half just sat and watched and continued to wait for their food to come. I thought they brought it out separately to serve things hot, but the food that was first brought out was only lukewarm. I got the steak sandwich, which was fine but pretty bland. Even the sauce couldn't save it... The fries were well-seasoned but soft and floppy, which just made them feel sad and unappealing. I had an espresso martini with dinner and it was basically a chocolate drink with no real espresso flavor. Overall, the setting was fine, but slow service, uneven timing, and subpar food made this a disappointing experience.

Shady, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable…read more I prepaid for a three-day stay at the Wigwam Motel in Emily but decided to leave after two days. I checked out at approximately 8:00 in the morning and asked to be refunded for the unused third day. They refused to refund me. I called repeatedly trying to resolve the situation. After two or three phone calls with the manager, I was told they did not have the ability to issue my refund and that someone else would need to handle it. They promised to contact that person and call me back. Instead, they eventually stopped returning my calls altogether. I made several reasonable attempts to resolve this directly with management, but all I received were excuses, changing explanations, and the runaround. Refusing to address the unused prepaid night was bad enough, but promising to call me back and then ignoring my calls made the entire situation feel extremely shady and dishonest. This was one of the most unprofessional motel experiences I have ever had. There was no accountability, no effort to resolve the problem, and no basic respect shown to me as a paying guest. I would strongly advise anyone considering this motel to stay somewhere else.

Did not like to give them business but had no options. The blond lady sure felt put out when I was asking for fishing spots to take my boys on Gull Lake. Leeches were in good shape. Crawlers had seen better days. I will not return to this place even if I have not bait and no license. Find another occupation. I guess they have a guide service too. Hope the guides have a better demeanor than the lady did! It would be a heck of a long day on the water !!!

Our cabin was Birchwood, it was as perfect as we could expect. 2 recliners are a rarities in a cabin. I tend to sleep better in them so I realy appreciated having the option. Plenty of room for 6 adults and a couple kids The screened in porch was huge and perfect for gaming. The weather was chilly but that's the risk of mid to late August. The owners were very accommodating and pleasant to work with. The beach is full of toys and playground activity as well as room for yard games and volleyball and the private campfires. Very relaxing My only suggestion would be a better game room for those rainy or cold days. Ice hockey, foosball, pinball or pool table, stuff like that but otherwise... We used the larger cabin on the water front. Great placement, we loved and used the deck out front every night! For the price that was listed online is what we got. Nothing fancy or overly accommodating but we didn't pay for that. You can find many cabins along many of lakes that cost quite a bit more then here. The cabin was clean and had lots of room inside to place all of the stuff we brought up. Having a kitchen and grills located on site was very helpful. I would recommend on bringing your own pillow as most of them were on the flat side but no big deal if you know ahead of time. The beds were very simple but way better then sleeping on the ground. It was nice to have our own harbor to park the boats every night and power was near for charging batteries just bring a cord. Bait and ice were available at the main lodge. they have an onsite fish cleaning house, we were all a bit confused on what to do with any water so that would be a good question to ask if you choose to use the fish house. Give it a try the owners are very friendly and helpful. Oh they have wifi but I couldn't get it to work fyi
