We got married here in august 2021 so an unbiased opinion is that a piece of our hearts belongs here. It has since changed a ton though and I believe has new ownership. They are remodeling the entire look of the resort and selling off cabins in a time share style way + adding an amazing new "beach club" with more amenities which is what this resort needed. We recently stopped in the celebrate our anniversary and although the menu has changed a ton over the years especially with different chefs since 2020 we are Happy to report that the wings are back to being fantastic and the dry rub is awesome. We also are happy to report that our favorite bartender (and many guests at our weddings favorite) is still here too - we love you Deb! Other than that, don't expect this place to be comparable to grandview or maddens, it's smaller and more intimate with less amenities but the lake view from your rooms and beach access are awesome and if you're there for simply that then stay here! If you're look for more then go elsewhere and spend the extra dollars! read more

No place better for a family retreat, reunion, or just a get-away. Decent food, great drinks, music on the lawn, water fun, fishing, etc., etc. Head down the road for a massage or set up a lawn game and firepit, and kick back. Not the spa type resort, but sooooo comfortable with all the amenities, it is far from the rustic cabins I stayed as a kid. This is my idea of having it all. read more

We ate appetizers today at lunchtime at Quarter Decks. The food was fantastic. Loved the salmon dip. The service was great spite the manger who was there. We were seated right next to the hostess booth and could hear the manger speak with her staff. Honestly the staff was so good and she was so poor at managing the tables the waitstaff and customers. I believe as a manager you should not just stand there asking the waitstaff how they are doing but jump in and help clear tables. It was extremely hot ours d keep good staff happy is so important. She was constantly changing tables on them stacking them so they should not have succeeded. But they did. She spoke down to them and to customers. Not a good deal. I saw several wait staff managing g better than her and keeping moral up. I hope management sees this and speaks with her and congratulates the staff. read more

Just finished a 3 week stay at Quarterdeck Resort and could easily do 3 weeks more. Hands down some of the best views on Gull Lake with the most fabulous staff!! If your looking for a resort where your room comes with a full lake view, an expansive, private deck, beach area with complimentary paddle boards and canoes, full service restaurant with the absolute best bar view, "sand bar" with kiddie and adult cocktails, full music schedule and the best ever staff then Quarterdeck Resort is for you!! Came here for a wedding a few weeks ago and am pretty blown away by this place. The views are phenomenal and there's a very comforting/laid back vibe to the whole resort. We stayed in the Aspen room which had a huge deck overlooking the dock, restaurant patio, and lake. Staff was really friendly and mostly helpful. Seems like a fun place to "learn how to work" at for the younger folks behind the front desk and running back and forth on the docks helping people secure their boats. Nice amenities offered - self serve coffee bar is great. Minus 1 star for the spotty internet and lack of connectivity between the TVs in our room. One worked and the other didn't - no explanation how to fix and when we called downstairs, they weren't sure how to fix it. Would highly recommend renting a pontoon boat for 1/2 the day if you get the opportunity. I want to come back here when the whole lake is frozen over for that winter experience. -J read more

The main entrance landscaping was beautiful, the loft had a relaxing Zen feeling, and the views were amazing, but my experience will prevent me from returning. Before I state my reasons for not returning, I wanted to acknowledge a staff named Mandy, who was professional, informative, and kind. She did her absolute best to assist my group with the issues that arose during our stay. Thank you, Mandy! Your customer service was above and beyond! I booked this stay to reconnect with friends and family after I had moved from MN and been away for over a year. Fishing and private access to the water were a couple of the main reasons I picked this resort and particular loft. The privacy of the location of the loft was another reason. When issues arose at the loft, maintenance was contacted, and a maintenance person would come and "fix" it. On each occasion, I was told they would inform the manager as she would be in the next morning, and a message would be left for her to contact me. The manager, Chrissy M., never contacted me during my stay and the two times I went to the office to look for her she wasn't in. I reached out to Chrissy on 6/6/24, via the same email I used to book the property with her to discuss my concerns (and to praise Mandy). I emailed 3 times before finally getting a response on 7/12. In Chrissy's reply, she apologized for not getting back sooner and for some aspects of the loft. Chrissy asked how I would like her to communicate with me moving forward to discuss my concerns. I requested on 7/14 that we continue via email, but I still haven't heard back from her! These were the list of concerns/issues that we had during our stay: *There was no safe access to the dock, no path cleared, it was overgrown and the 3-foot wooden stakes, likely placed during the winter were still in the ground with the black tarp blowing. *Maintenance people were working on the lakeside of the loft, on the side of the loft, and the dock when we arrived and throughout the second day. I had thought they were opening the dock for us but that wasn't the case. I'm not exactly sure what they were doing. *The fireplaces on each level did not work for the first night, the coldest of the nights we stayed. We had intended to utilize those for heat and ambiance. *The air conditioning did not work on any level the entire time we were there, and temperatures were 75 plus during the day. Maintenance did attempt to fix this several times, but the house never cooled to a comfortable temperature, even with all the shades closed. *Later in the evening, it was cooler outside than inside the loft, but the screen door frame was bent on the main level and the screen was torn from the frame on the lower level. Making it impossible for us to keep those open without letting the bugs and mosquitoes in. *There was broken glass in the firepit and the grass in the yard. *There were cigarette butts in the firepit and on the grass in the yard. There were also trash/wrappers in the front and back grassy areas and the firepit. *There were tons of spider webs on the chairs around the firepit, the balcony, and the screen doors. It appeared that none of those areas had been looked at for months. *There is mold in the storage area. There were a few small issues that aren't worth mentioning publicly but added to the disappointment in our experience. I may have considered returning to The Quarterdeck had Chrissy followed up with me promptly but, at this point the lack of communication is unacceptable, and I've requested to speak with her supervisor. read more

Since the new ownership this place has become our favorite spot! I had the Cranberry club sandwich and it was amazing. My husband had the walleye sandwich and it was equally as good. I know five people that will never stay here again. We got completely bamboozled on snowmobile rentals. One of the sleds they rented us had less than 20 miles on it, upon return it was found to have a broken part that was welded on. This was clearly a bad weld and a manufacturer/warranty issue. They still took the liberty of charging us $145. How do you say that's a low rent and your establishment is a joke, without saying that's low rent and your establishment is a joke!? read more

This was the first time staying at this resorts. We had a small family reunion and booked 3 rooms, one being a large one on the main level, birch. The remodel is fantastic. Lots of open spaces, and a nice sand lake area for my little one to play. No super busy which we loved. Already booked for next July 4th. A couple of things: they'll let you check in early if the room is available, which is really nice! You have to request your room to be serviced, which I didn't know. Not very peaceful. Loud music and noise from the bar could be heard in our room. Beds have no box springs and are very hard. You are expected to clean your own room before checkout or you are charged extra for cleaning. No daily housekeeping service in lodge. We won't be staying here again. read more

We stayed at this resort for several days at the very end of October. The staff were wonderful, especially the front desk manager. I was astonished that the resort is keeping the spa and swimming pool open all year round, because they are outdoor. They have it set up with a recreation building just feet away from the water. The spa was wonderful, as was the pool, even though it was just 30 degrees F outside. Our room was quiet, clean and reflected excellent management. The mattress was 12 inch super high quality. The pull down drop shades were light blocking. The hot tub in our room had a high horsepower jet pump which made it more like an hydro therapy athletic training room unit. Just so wonderful. Their television set up is a smart type with corresponding smart box. A little tricky to figure out, but then you have absolutely hundreds of channels including Netflix. The bathroom in our room was large and spotless. There is a outside deck that is private for each room and all face the lake above the patio and swimming beach. Out the door from our room and right down the stairs, you are in the bar restaurant. Many tap beers, quality wine selection, nice staff, and really excellent food for the one dinner we ate. The bar restaurant was playing interesting music, multiple TVs are going and the windows look out over the lake. I'm not exaggerating when I write that this Quarterdeck Resort is about the best overall place I have ever stayed for comfort, good sleep, excellent food, nice helpful staff, and the fun of outdoor water submersion is a winter environment. I can not wait to get back. read more

Disappointed. I should have done more research on the area. Hotel is cute and very clean, but... we had to drive at least 25-30 minutes to get anywhere. Spent most of our time on the other side of the lake. No pool, no jacuzzi, no kayaks, no paddle boats... the free bikes weren't free.. $10 per hour. Not enough amenities for us. Hind sight I would pick Grand View Lodge, Madden's, or one of the larger resorts. If you don't have your own boat and drink a lot... then this is not the place for you. Also, we found out that you had to request that your room get "made up", each day when we came back and everything was still a mess. They claimed there was a sign, not to be found. Our tv also didn't work when we entered the room initially and it took awhile to get that resolved. No telephone in the rooms so you can't call for support, you must go out to reception to search for someone. Very boutique hotel... To their credit things got resolved at 8:00 pm when we complained. Very sweet employees. Expensive for what we got. Look elsewhere. read more

Four of us from out of state happened upon the Quarterdeck restaurant this evening, and despite being quite busy, they accommodated us very nicely! Susanna was wonderfully friendly and welcoming, we ordered different sandwiches, and for the most part we're happy with our choices, only disappointment was the prime rib sandwich. They did not charge us for hers, which was most kind of them. The French fries were spectacular and in generous amounts. My burger tasted great and the chicken cranberry sandwich was good as well!. I would certainly return to the Quarterdeck, if I should happen to be in this area again. read more

This resort was very quiet and a nice getaway from the city. We were greeted by a very friendly woman who checked us in and offered to let us move rooms since it was right over the bar area. The room (Main Lodge) was nice and updated. The room came fully stocked with dishes, toaster, and a small fridge. The room was large and had a high pressured jacuzzi that overlooked the lake. There was also a large private balcony. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is that the amenities that were listed on the site were not available quite yet, which was confusing because when we booked it, it had not used the words "coming soon", but when we looked this weekend, it had been updated to note that they were "coming soon". It would have been nice to have been able to use the fireplace that was outside, but I understand that needed to be managed by staff. Another thing to note is that there is only staff for the hotel onsite during the day time and not at night. So make sure to not loose or deactivate a key. The onsite restaurant was good, but if you have food allergies, I recommend calling ahead to see if they can accommodate them. They were able to for gluten and dairy, but the menu is small as is so the options might not be that great. Also, the balcony and room does not have any tables for eating or playing games. The larger rooms do, but the room we stayed in did not. It would have been nice to have a table to play a game on, especially since there are no common areas in the hotel to do so. One last thing to note, it can be quite a bit of a drive to most of the shopping and restaurants. All in all, it was worth what we paid if not more. read more

This is a restaurant location that has been one of our go to spots. Their docks, food and service were frankly superb. Unfortunately, that restaurant closed and we had the opportunity to experience the new ownership. Well, I wanted this to be a positive experience so badly. Yet, I need to explain. The food? Ummmmmmmmmmmmm, not worth the price tag. They have clearly set their sights on the upper end clientele. They offer premium priced options in a market that has an affluent clientele opportunity but they offer a bar atmosphere. How will they survive? News break, they won't. This location is the elephant graveyard for restaurants. There are so many better options. read more

Check in customer service was not very helpful. I called the morning of our check in to confirm, and I was not informed the elevator was not working until I arrived. No ground floor rooms were available. This trip was a luxury trip for me, not a common occurrence, and I was looking forward to a relaxing, comfortable stay. The elevator was not working all weekend, and no compensation was offered. I'm a senior, and having an elevator to check in/out with is important to me, and something I expected. The room itself was beautiful, the bed comfortable, and the amenities were great with a fridge, microwave, dishes, etc. The large sliding doors to the deck overlooking the lake was a treat. Room 302, in the new section, still has has issues to work out. The sliding screen door to keep the bugs out swayed in the breeze and was not attached to the floor track, which I tried to fix but wasn't able to. A window facing a lighted deck did not have a blackout shade, and the light coming in was too bright to sleep. I remedied that by taking the large picture off the wall, and propping it up against the window with a chair, then draping the bed coverlets over the window and picture to block the light. A non-working elevator, in-operable sliding screen door, and lack of a black out shade are all things I had no idea I would have to content with. It spoiled my expectation of a relaxing stay at a luxury price. I was disappointed at the lack of management oversight and customer service, and lack of regard for my comfort. read more
