Really cool and groovy surf shop in Treasure Island- this has all the beach and surfer vibes you could want. You can find most surfer essentials here- clothes, swim shirts, short and suits, body suits, hats, sunglasses, flip flops, and a whole upstairs dedicated to gorgeous surf boards and some skateboards. By the way- a surf boards? NOT cheap. But even if you aren't looking to purchase one it's still quite fun to shop around. The brand of apparel stuff is also very surfer-esque- Hurley, Roxy, Reef, Sun Bum and more. The workers were young but really friendly and gave us some local food & coffee recommendations. The one girl even said her mom worked at the shop when she was the same age and that's pretty cool. There are some pictures & trophies on the stairs from surfing competitions I assumed employees of the shop participated in or sponsored. I also loved the giant flip flops sitting out front- if you visit or have visited you know exactly what I'm talking about. They have a basketball hoop on the side of the ship and a ball out front you can shoot with. I bought my first surfboard here probably 10 years ago. The selection not only for boards, but shirts, shorts, bikinis, sunglasses, etc. is very good for a store of its size. I know the employees have always been helpful and its a must stop when you are in Treasure Island. My grandparents moved on the water close by this location back in 1976 and they used to come here even, but not for surfboards LoL. It has been around since the mid 60's if I remember correctly and is a staple in the area. We're vacationing from out of town. Last year we were here, we got a wooden skimboard for my son from another shop closer to where we stay when we're in the area. In that year, he's outgrown it. We were looking all up and down the coast of this area, first to find an authentic surf shop that isn't a chain and sells items that aren't cookie cutter designs that scream "out of towners" if you wear it. The second thing we were looking for was a skimboard that's more appropriate for our son's size. Not only did the guys know exactly what would be best for him, it was a great deal. Suncoast Surf Shop brings back so many memories. This is where I purchased my first surfboard and where my father got back into surfing after 30 years of being away. They're a great help at Suncoast.. anything skateboard/surfboard/outdoorsy related, they'll set you on the right foot. Clothing is a little expensive here, but that's to be expected of specialty shops. There's not many places on the east coast of Florida in this region that can set you up with a surfboard - since surfing is mostly done on the Atlantic coast. They sell used and new boards, and also do minimal repairs. Upstairs is a huge loft just filled with surfboards. Old photos cling to the walls and they're always having some kind of sidewalk sale. The owners live nextdoor and they're very helpful when you're learning about surfing. They will let you know of all the local spots and upcoming surf contests. Robert August (famous surfer from the movie Endless Summer in the 1960s) has been here a couple of times. Great place to check out even if you're not interested in surfing/skateboarding, you may learn a thing or two. read more

My wife and I were looking around for paddle boards while we stayed at a condo on Treasure Island. We saw Suncoast Surf Shop on Yelp and decided to give them a try. They were super friendly and made getting paddle boards easy. We had 2 paddle boards delivered to us at our condo in a very quick time. We got them around 11AM and were told we could keep them until noon the following day. We paddled around the beach, and then also went in the inlet behind the condo. A Sunset Beach institution! I buy Reef sandals here, as they always have a good selection of my favorite sandal brand. The staff is always helpful, and it is as laid back as you would expect from a surf shop. If you catch Joe in the store, say hello, he's the owner and is always friendly to me. If you don't see a product in your size on the rack, ask, as they store inventory up stairs and behind the sandals wall. I've rented paddle boards a few times from here with friends. Joe and his staff are really helpful! They helped us get the boards to and from the beach and they've offered helpful tips every time we've rented. i am adding a new review to my prior (bad) review because I think when a business rights a wrong, that should be noted. Due to my prior issue when attempting to rent paddle boards, Joe contacted me and offered me a very nice deal in order to make up for my unfortunate experience. The new experience was awesome!! Rental process was easy and quick (just call a day ahead if you can so that they can be prepared). We got two very nice boards taken right to a beautiful and very easy put in on the intracoastal. We were out for over 4 hours. Got back, called their number and someone came to retrieve the boards in minutes. We were able to leave our car at the put in (free!) so it was very convenient. Staff was pleasant and efficient and the entire day has earned them a repeat customer for sure. read more

OK, OK..I know I am dating myself but I went almost weekly to Suncoast Surf Shop in the mid 60's. It was the only place, besides Surfer's Club that a surfer could hang and feel at home. The salt and salt spray still in my blood. Great friendly place back when. We can't go back and only those who were there at that time could really understand deep down But at 68 years old I still have my board hanging in my garage.
