Danny needs to change the company name. OK contracting is misleading because it's no just OK…read more It's more like Great Contracting or Awesome Contracting. So what makes Danny and OK contracting great? #1. they show up on time. - I know. Shocking right? you hire someone and expect them to stick to a schedule and show up as promised, but if you've done remodeling before, you'll know that this isn't always (or even often) the case. #2 No unnecessary scope creep - What's this mean? it means Danny won't try to talk you into replacing a bunch of stuff that doesn't need to happen. If he knocks a wall down and sees serious issues, he'll list out your options and in the end give you his HONEST opinion of what he would do (it's wasn't the most expensive option in my case) #3 Fair pricing - We got a number of bids and Danny came in the lowest. That wasn't the reason why we chose him though. His bid was broken out and much more transparent when evaluating costs for each function. It was easy to read and understand where your money is going on a large project #4 Personality - Danny is a straight shooter and is a generally nice guy. He'll call and discuss issues before doing additional work. In the end, we had OK contracting demo 2 stucco walls to repair wood rot and also waterproof/seal our patio deck. Work was done on time and as described in the work proposal. We're happy with the work that was done and will definitely keep him in mind for other jobs.

We love Danny. He's reliable, keeps you up to date, reasonably priced, and does great work. We…read morerecently bought a 1940s fixer upper in Palo Alto, which needed a lot of work. We hired Danny to oversee the project, and he was more than willing to work with a couple of contractors we had picked ourselves (cabinetry and windows-- even though later in the process, we wished we had gone with his recommendations). We took out some walls in our kitchen, put in a new heating system, put in hardwood floors, expanded our bathroom, remodeled our other existing bathroom, and changed some closet configurations, and everything went very smoothly. Danny is great in that he keeps you informed of everything that's happening, and if a mistake is made, which is rare, he'll owe up to it and fix it. In addition, he does a lot of the carpentry himself, which probably brings down costs. He and his crew were always on time, and he often stayed late working on our project. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking to do an extensive remodel and would definitely use him again for other projects. He did a wonderful job.

I'm not…read moresure what problems he is able to solve when he does not come out to make a bid, nor respond to text messages or emails from a potential client. Over the course of two weeks I talked to him over the phone to set up a meeting at the jobsite to obtain a quote for a deck repair. We had a date arranged and I thought everything was set. I emailed him permit-ready plans drawn up by my architect, as well as texting him about our pending meeting. I never received an acknowledgement by text or email, and was left wondering whether he had a chance to review the plans. Really poor communications and poor customer service. No worries; I called him again and told him that if he had questions I was happy to go over the details at the jobsite. Finally on the morning of the appointment, he was a "no show" after I had spent an hour driving down to the jobsite. When I reached him over the phone the last time, he admitted he had forgotten. It's just as well since I was getting the hint I was going to be disappointed if I were to work with him for any length of time.

PLEASE DO NOT TRUST WHAT JIM HERBNER SAYS!!!…read more Our remodel that should have taken us less than two years to complete took multiple years and is still not complete. Here were the issues: 1) Took multiple cash advances ($$$$) and never completely finished the work. We are yet to hear back from him. He has taken our money and disappeared for good. 2) On many occasions the money he took from us, he never paid the subcontractors who subsequently filed liens on our property. We had to overpay time and time again and bail him out! This is not how you run an honest business. 3) Fake promises: We confronted him multiple times to get the work done, gave him opportunity after opportunity to come clean, treated him with respect, and despite all this he NEVER got the work DONE and there were no updates or follow through on timelines and NO COMMUNICATION. Contractors like Jim bring a BAD NAME to the construction industry, it's unfortunate! I WOULD NEVER HIRE HIM AGAIN!! We should have FIRED him a long time ago, instead from the kindness of our hearts we trusted him (SHAME ON US)!!!

Jim's work quality when he's fully focused is second to none, however he never fully completed the work after taking multiple cash advances. In fact, he disappeared and never paid the subcontractors who subsequently filed liens on our property. After we confronted him, he promised to complete the work, proposing new times/deadlines but would never follow through to completion. This left us many times without the use of rooms in our house for MONTHS instead of something that should have been 2-3 weeks. No privacy, unpredictable timing and the incredible inconvenience. Realizing he continued to have financial issues, we adjusted the projects double paying to cover the cost of work that required subcontractors and took care of materials costs -- but he still never completed the work that he could have done on his own. Now we have to beg him for even a phone call back on the status of remaining projects. I'd think twice about hiring him unless you want to be scammed with a half done project that lasts for years. I wish him well, but will NEVER work with him again.

He was at the job site each day and initiated weekly meetings for us to disuss the progress and future milestones. He kept us on track when selecting and ordering our finishes and always offered his design and creative expertise, when there were tie-breaker decisions to be made. He was very patient with the many choices of paint color and so was his painter! The team of subcontractors, were all very hard working and easy to talk with, when it came to answering our questions. Reid has a high standard for hiring dedicated and professional subcontractors, he expects the best. They all seemed to have mutual admiration, and work cohesively as a team together. When the remodel was done, we couldn't have been happier. With all the unknowns and moving parts that went into this remodel, Hastings Construction finished the project all within a 9 months!
