When we show up we walked into a poorly maintained shack with life preservers and other boating accessories seemingly tossed around. What really got under my skin though was the staff on hand. There were about four 18-22 year olds working the place, none of whom seemed to know what they were doing nor had any sort of professional demeanor. Either they actually were slightly clueless or (as my family and I talked about later) could have been high. We kept having to ask them unnecessary questions about things any professional Marina would have handled on their own. Example: after renting a wake board they neglected to give us a rope which we had to ask for. Then the 3 clueless/high teenagers wandered around the disorganized shack for about 4 minutes before locating a rope. When we were given our boat there were no bumpers on it and when we inquired about it we were told "dudes have been stealing them" and received no bumpers. Although very inept, the staff was friendly and did not charge us for tube we rented. In the end we did get a nice boat and accessories, even after about 25 minutes of unnecessary Confusion.

We stayed at Rosewood Country Inn while traveling through the area and unfortunately found the…read moreproperty poorly maintained and the overall experience uncomfortable. We were traveling with our two children and chose the inn because it appeared to be a traditional New England property in a convenient location. Condition of the Property: The building and interiors appear not to have been updated in decades. Much of the furniture, fixtures, and decor looked extremely worn and outdated. Rather than feeling historic or charming, the property felt neglected. Cleanliness: Several areas of the inn appeared poorly maintained and not particularly clean, which made it difficult to relax in the room or common areas. Management Interaction: Our interaction with the manager, Stan, was uncomfortable. He came across as dismissive and unwelcoming, which made the stay feel even more awkward. Overall Atmosphere: The general condition of the building was unsettling enough that our children were actually frightened and asked if we could leave and stay somewhere else. While the location could be appealing, the property seems to need significant updates, improved upkeep, and a more welcoming approach to guests.

Go for the breakfasts, go for the dinners, go and ask Stan for some house-smoked meats! Seriously, these people are amazing, the space is special, and the complete quiet (and darkness at night) are a wonderful relief. Note: Cell signal is poor at best. Wifi is available, but really...don't do it, unplug for a few days.

We loved the pool and hot tub as well. It's very peaceful and relaxing. The Castle building really is gorgeous as well. The staff at the hotel are very nice and want to be helpful. We used the spa and it was okay. The gym is large and well equipped. I had a massage which was okay. The room I was in had a window which faced the road and the traffic noise was louder than the spa music that was playing so didn't lend itself to relaxing. The massage was over $200 so I didn't think it was a great value because I didn't really feel fully relaxed after it. Ask for a treatment room on the pool side of the building if possible. We ate at the restaurant and it was pretty good. Prices were high but seemed to be about on par with another meal we had in the area. Service was nice. Our room was okay...very spacious but the lack of outlets is tough to manage in 2025 with so many devices to charge. I understand the building is very old so I get that there aren't a lot of plugs. My Verizon connectivity was terrible in the whole area and due to a wide-scale outage, Wifi was not working when I was there, which was problematic because I had to take a business call. That and a couple of other issues with our room led to us leaving early to find someplace that had a working Wifi connection but I have to say the staff were helpful and understanding. It was the off season and I think maybe they were a little short staffed but I get that it's tough for businesses these days. Overall, this place was fine and it is very beautiful.

We booked a weekend getaway at Castle Inn Spa in Vermont after seeing the photos online, and I was…read moreso excited to stay here. The setting is beautiful, and the property has a lot of history -- over 125 years old and once belonging to Governor Fletcher, with only 12 rooms. Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing. We checked into Room #9 and right away noticed issues. The bathroom door lock was broken, and I ended up getting stuck inside until my husband let me out. There were also many dead bees on the floor when we arrived, and by the next morning we saw live bees in the room. Since the windows didn't open, I had no choice but to kill them. Service was limited -- no housekeeping even when requested, and the hotel felt very understaffed (likely because it was off-season). The spa treatment was okay, but there was only one massage therapist available. The pool area was relaxing, but that was the highlight. The bee problem got so bad that we cut our stay short. Although we had booked for three nights, we left after just a day and a half, checking out at 9 p.m. on the second night because it became unmanageable. Staff sent a technician, but the only solution offered was to spray, and the bees kept coming back. The environment and historic charm are wonderful, but the property isn't being maintained to the level it deserves. Sadly, I don't see myself returning.

No response so made a reservation for the Sun night elsewhere. So we were planning on traveling on the first date reserved for. Had a stop 1/3 of the way & when reading the confirmation, deep in it -- not on the front page -- it says that check-in is from 3 pm to 8 pm ONLY, and if having late check-in, must contact the motel prior. It was 8:30 pm. I called the motel, left message. No response until after 11 am next day. We had stayed in place that night since we had no idea what we'd do if we got here at 11 pm but couldn't get in. Patrick told me the next day I could have come anyway, that they tape the key to the office door. (Safety?) I told him we didn't know that and wouldn't have taken that risk. He asked when were we coming. I said we planned to get there at 3-3:30 since check-in was limited to 3 pm start. He told me we could have come anyway since we paid for the night before. According to their online info or confirmation, 3-8 pm only. He implied he'd take some off the first night and would change the online info & confirmation. (I see now on Yelp that this has happened to other people too..) Time will tell. We checked in. Moldy smell. Bathroom has off/loose tiles/no grout that am guessing water gets in behind so mold. A pleasant surprise was the mic & refrigerator. I didn't see that on the website so was a very nice added amenity. I saw one picture with a pool. Unless that was a different location? there's no pool here. There's a sign about charging for towels that get damaged by makeup etc. That they're providing colored towels for that purpose, but then didn't. Some basic maintenance should be done. Fix tiles around bathroom. Replace blinds that have missing slats. Find source of smell. Toilet seat comes loose -- I've tightened it repeatedly.

The coffee bar is Keurig with Kcup & tea options, zero cream or milk; requested but not brought. Would have gotten some myself had the arrangement/request not been handled by housekeeper. The front steps could use some maintenance. There is a key code needed to check in; same code different stays. Zero staff on site. They send you a security deposit request by text w/a link. Most of us ignore texts from unknown senders. I emailed to get code; got it once I paid the deposit. The front-door code/security is deceptive. There were 3 other doors, all unlocked, one open/ajar & one w NO lock. At 10:30 pm we called all numbers posted; one was disconnected. No response that night. Kayla the manager NEVER responded. Heard from the (website?) management company after check-out time/after we left. Heard from BRI later. Another guest came at 10:30 pm out of the dark at back door, wanting us to let them in. Told them the process to get the code. They then said they had come in earlier & put stuff in a random room. Def a security breach. The door that wouldn't lock we gathered house things to try to barricade it since no one called us back. No idea if others had entered via the unsecured doors. Since our "private bath" could be accessed by anyone in the building (unlocked/just a note on door) & we had to cross a public hallway from our room, it was unnerving. (I do not consider that a private bath.) BRI seemed to not understand how frightening this security breach was. Management co took 4 full days to convince RBI to offer a partial refund. Another phone # was provided that we should have used, long after the stay. Not helpful. Without this security breach & lazy follow-up, I probably would have given them a 4+. Inexpensive lodge, quiet area. Rm keys by front door so all entering know what rooms are occupied. They claim a locksmith has come & fixed the no-lock door. Check doors/security at nonhotel stays!
