When I saw a free spray tan coupon, I was genuinely looking forward to trying it out. The experience started off great. I took a full tour of the salon, which was clean and impressive, and the associate was very kind and helpful at first. She was a little behind on cleaning beds, but I didn't mind waiting at all and was very patient. She explained different services, memberships, and products, but I clearly stated that this visit I did not want to purchase anything. I also explained that I don't live nearby and was only in town because my city is currently experiencing a severe ice storm and we have no power or water at home. After that, the interaction became uncomfortable. When I said I didn't want to buy anything, I was repeatedly asked "why," which put me in an awkward position of having to justify my decision multiple times. I simply didn't want to invest in memberships or products for a location I don't live near. I had already completed the required form that morning and came in specifically to use the spray tan coupon. After all the touring and discussions, when I presented the coupon, I was told it wasn't working and that it must be because I'm not local to Chattanooga. I explained that the fine print only states the coupon must be used within the same state, which I am, as I live in Tennessee, and that there is no mention of needing to reside in the same city. I asked if the coupon could be honored since this restriction wasn't disclosed, and I also politely asked if there was someone else she could check with. I was told the manager had already been asked, though I was standing at the counter the entire time and no calls were made. The request was immediately shut down. I left feeling disappointed, especially because I truly would have loved to try the spray tanning service and likely would have returned to purchase additional spray tans when visiting family in the Chattanooga area. The salon itself is very nice, but I hope future guests, especially visitors, are met with clearer communication and less pressure.

The prices are really reasonable, and I was given a tour of all the different levels of beds, of which there are four... from the basic of days of old, to the high tech ones... and even the leg tanners, spray booths, and red light therapy, which I understand helps with acne! Imagine that... I was duly impressed and signed up for a package of five visits in a level three hot bed, and got down to business. (There are even towels on a shelving unit you can grab if you think you need one...) The bed is quite futuristic and really comfortable with plenty of bulbs and fans, and the room has a chair, hooks to hang your purse, clothes, or whatever. A little "sawhorse" sign assures you that the bed had been cleaned, and it definitely looks like it! The controls to turn it on/off are right by the head of the bed on the wall, and the bed is huge! Plenty of room to get comfy. Nothing like the little beds from back in the day that felt like coffins... LOL... I'm glad I'm not claustrophobic, because I'm not sure how people like that ever did it back then! Anyway, it was a great visit, and I'm really impressed by the place, the equipment, and especially the people. I was told that I couldn't get my second tan because it expired yesterday. I guess I should have known that the day I purchased (exactly 14 days ago) the deal already counted the first 24 hours? Not interested in arguing with two young ladies, but they could have easily honored the promo and graduated to another level of customer service. They opted not to do so.

After verifying I would not be charged further, I was given the number and my client ID number on a sticky note to call and cancel the next day. I did this specifically and was told that we could not cancel and had to be billed for one month of the membership. I was charged $120 for the membership I was told several times I could cancel at any time. I understand to some extent this is my fault for believing someone at face value, but I'm absolutely appalled this is how customers are treated. I will NEVER step foot in another Sun Tan City. I will happily pay more for a spray tan at a different facility to avoid this level of manipulative behavior.

This time around when I renewed my membership I noticed they got a new stand-up, very happy about that; it's much nicer & bigger. I have severe allergies & even dust causes me to have headaches. A few weeks ago I noticed I was having headaches following tanning; then I realized the fan in the stand-up was pretty dusty. I didn't realize the owner (a male) was out of town & I asked for it to be cleaned. The girls that work there stood on stools, took 45 min., & made sure it was gleaming clean by the time I came back to tan. They're extremely accommodating! I would recommend paradise tan & travel to anyone wanting a friendly environment, that puts the needs of their customers first.

I was signed up and in my tanning bed within 10 minutes (not including the time I spent picking the owner's brain about how it all works). They have new beds, change the bulbs often (my bed had only 60 hours on the bulbs), a wide selection of tanning oils and lotions, and an overall pleasant experience. They've also got some GREAT deals going on, and are willing to help you out with per-visit paying. Great business!
