What gives with this place? Online, their website, it states that from June 4th through July 27th there will be swim lessons June 4th to June 7th from 5:15 pm to 6:00 pm (Season 1), and 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm (Season 2) for $85.00, monthly. So I decide to head-on in while my wife and daughter are getting their haircut to kill time. So I go in to the front desk and ask if I can sign up my daughter for swim school. Sure no problem, we just have to wait for a computer to open up. Well that is weird. One would think that they would have more than one computer, but what do I know. So I wait for about 5 minutes, no big deal. Now the computer is open up, and she tells me swim school starts on Monday. Awesome, lets sign my daughter up. She says okay, do you want her to start at 9:00 am or 10:00 am? I said no, I would like to sign her up for the 5:15 pm class, she still has school. She then proceeded to tell me that there is no afternoon class, and my daughter really doesn't need to go to school the last week of school, because schools really don't do anything on the last week. Well, feeling a little pissed off, I told her that on Sun Oak's website, it clearly says that they have a class from June 4th to June 7th at 5:00 pm for $85.00, monthly. She said sorry, but that must have been a typo or something, because the class is in the morning and cost $100.00, monthly. So with that, I said goodbye. Be careful of Sun Oak's sales tactics, because they are shady. Guess they will say whatever they want online, just to get you in the door so they can up-sale you. I will probably try again next month during a weekday. But, I will have BBB on speed dial next time they pull this crap.

This is Sun Oaks response to putting an account on hold that was discussed the previous day. They now want me to contact Governor Newsom?

Don't…read moreget me wrong, I LOVE that there is a more affordable option offered for the Chico area and that it's much cheaper than WaterSprites (by about half), but being able to go into an indoor temperature controlled pool without having to put on sunscreen and be blinded by the sun and having all the changing tables and cubbies is just a far superior and more calm experience. At the PV pool where CARD lessons are being held, they have a nothing other than a narrow bench around the border of a large room. It's not like I can change my baby ahead of time because swim diapers only hold in solids, so I find this extremely inadequate for the age group the swim lessons are offered for. My impression is that the instructors at WaterSprites are also much more specialized in working with the younger babies and kids. I guess I'm more into the bougie over the budget experience, LOL. Water sprites also did end up finding us a spot in the other class that worked for our new schedule, so that was much appreciated. That being said, our experience in the Tuesday 1 PM class versus the Tuesday 9 AM class was just totally different. In the Tuesday 1 PM class, the temperatures in the pool and the room were exactly where they needed to be, and there was only the baby class going at that time. When we changed to the 9 AM class due to our new schedule conflict (this was in January), we learned that the pool and the room were much cooler because it hadn't had a time to warm up. There also seemed to be another small class operating at the same time. With the babies, I was of the opinion that the temperature being high enough and having the very calm, lower stimulating environment were critical. Ultimately, we did end up canceling our membership because it was definitely a push for my husband to take her in the morning before work, and then to be confronted with temperatures that were still a bit too cold and an environment that was a bit too overstimulating for our baby (6 months old at the time), it was just.... Not quite "there" enough to continue at that age and time of our lives and at that premium price. That is not to say that they didn't do a good job. While there is some improvement that could be made, overall, you cannot get that same service elsewhere in Chico and we would probably return to water sprites if/when the stars align

New "If I could give zero stars I would" This place is a…read moremoney grab, it's not worth it and you're better off going to the community college, even if it means that it will take a bit longer plus the cost is way lower than this place. I went in for the LVN program for the first two semesters and it was terrible. The first semester they try to cram in biology, anatomy and physiology all one, within 8 weeks. I passed that semester with high grade but it was truly done on my own. The instructors just read off of a PowerPoint presentation for 3 hours, there really isn't much teaching. Also they like to test their students with NCLEX style questions which seems like it would be a nice way to get experience for the real thing, except they don't show you how to take these type of testing or what to expect. I believe at one point the instructor said they expect us to fail these tests the first few times, as if that's some sort of way to teach? I was hoping that after that first semester was over and once we got into the actual LVN courses it would get better but it didn't. Same thing, it's a lot of teaching yourself as you go, and using a lot of outside resources to learn. For the amount of money they charge, you would think that you would receive a better education, but it seems like the instructors are only there to babysit you while you teach yourself. I will say there was one instructor that actually taught some classes, Allan, he was the only one that seemed like he was there to help students. I unfortunately had a family emergency that caused me to miss a day and since I was not able to make the hours up I decided to drop out of the program, which in hindsight was a blessing in disguise. Now I'm going to Shasta Community College to finish my degree and I'm actually leaning more and getting the tools I need to make a great nurse once I'm out in the real world. Another thing to take into account is their attendance policy, you cannot miss any days, making up the hours is impossible if you have a job. They don't care what the reason is, the only thing they'll "excuse" is a family death, which you will have to provide a death certificate to prove it. The place I work at has lots of graduates from this place and they never have anything positive to say about it, which should have been my warning. Overall I would definitely recommend not going here, the lure of having part time evenings classes available sounds great especially for those that have to work full time but I promise you it's not worth it.
